If you’re a free agent running back, it might be best just to let the call go to voicemail if you see it’s the Buccaneers on the other end of the line.
The Buccaneers brought Antone Smith in recently to provide them with a healthy body in the backfield in the wake of several other injuries to members of the backfield. Smith’s run with the team is done, however.
Buccaneers coach Dirk Koetter announced that Smith will miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury in Thursday night’s loss to the Falcons. With Doug Martin still dealing with a hamstring injury and Jacquizz Rodgers sidelined by a foot injury, the Bucs are left with Peyton Barber and Mike James as healthy options in the backfield at the moment. The team also lost Charles Sims for the year earlier in the season.
Koetter also announced that defensive end Howard Jones will also miss the rest of the season after hurting his knee and he surely hopes that things can only get better on the injury front from here on out.
