Belichick indeed wrote a letter to Trump

Getty Images

On Monday night, Donald Trump read at a New Hampshire rally a letter he said he received from Patriots coach Bill Belichick. Tom Curran of CSN New England reports that Belichick did indeed send “a note” to Trump on Monday.

“Congratulations on a tremendous campaign,” Trump said, quoting the letter. “You have dealt with an unbelievable slanted and negative media, and have come out beautifully – beautifully. You’ve proved to be the ultimate competitor and fighter. Your leadership is amazing. I have always had tremendous respect for you, but the toughness and perseverance you have displayed over the past year is remarkable. Hopefully tomorrow’s election results will give the opportunity to make America great again. Best wishes for great results tomorrow.”

Belichick hasn’t publicly commented on the issue, and the team has yet to issue any statement about the specific authenticity of the words Trump attributed to Belichick. Absent a denial from Belichick that the words were in any way embellished or that the note wasn’t meant to be shared with the electorate, it’s fair to assume that Belichick wrote what Trump said — and that Belichick authorized it to be publicized.

Belichick won’t be available to reporters until Wednesday. Whether and to what extent he addresses the situation in detail may depend on whether Trump prevails today.

  1. So for once in a lifetime, all the Chowderheads need to follow their coach’s advice and do it.

  2. Not buying it. If BB hasn’t addressed it, how does anyone know?

Both of BB’s parents were teachers, too. Highly, highly unlikely this is true.

It’s not Belichick’s style to get involved in politics.

  3. I’ll bet most football coaches are on the Trump bandwagon. Authoritarians recognize each other.

  4. So what, the guy likes Trump. I dont, but Im not in the habit of attacking people due to their candidate of choice like the author of this bit seems to be.

  5. Proud to be a Trump supporter and a Bills fan! Kudos to Belichick for telling the truth! If you want open borders, ISIS to keep murdering and raping women and gays, taxes to increase, guns to have a 25% tax on them vote Hillary.

Get out and Make America Great Again!!

  6. It’s Bill Belichick’s right to write this letter to Trump just as it’s Kapernick’s right to kneel through the Anthem. With that said, I find this letter and his support of Trump a hell of a lot more offensive than anything Kapernick or any other player has done by kneeling. But I can more than guarantee if won’t be covered in the same fashion.

  7. No surprise Belichick is a Repulican, especially with his lifelong ties to the military, but it’s hard for me to not lose respect for anyone that would support or vote for that clown. Great FB coach though.

  8. Trump is an actor….controlled opposition…

Hillary was hand picked to win many years ago…

P.S. Your votes don’t count, elections are rigged… John Kerry vs George Bush = same fraternity at Yale…

  9. Who cares weather Bill or Lady GaGa vote for one or the other? If you base your vote on what someone else is doing then maybe you should not vote. Think for yourself!

  10. Wow. I know that Belichick is a jerk, but this seals it for me. Trump? Really? Oh well, two jerks have their own mutual admiration society. I can still like the team without liking the coach.

  11. We live in a democracy and in the same way that people is allowed to sit or kneel during the anthem, people has the right to endorse a candidate.

  12. Proof positive that coaches can be brilliant on the field and dumb as rocks at everything else. Like Einstein being unable to tie his own shoes.

  13. As someone who can vote for neither of these terrible candidates and human beings, I totally get every single person in my circle that is voting for one to stop the other.

The best coach of all time supports a candidate I can’t stand. Is that supposed to make me dislike him? It is disgusting that this story is even a thing. Virtue signaling has taken over even football.

Go to hell, 2016. Go. To. Hell.

  14. Came out beautifully? Amazing leadership? Strange words from Belichick.

Regardless of your personal opinion on Trump, his policies, his potential supreme court nominees, etc. the fact remains that he is the least popular major party nominee of all time and is probably the only person who could lose to Hillary, the second least popular major party nominee of all time.

Any cookie cutter republican like Romney, Rubio, or Kasich probably would have won this election in a landslide. And before you get upset, I’m not making a statement against or in favor of either nominee, I’m just referring to the data.

Go vote my friends, and let’s be done with this awful season.

  15. Like Trump, Belichick deals with the corrupt media on a daily basis.
ESPN printing bogus PSI readings and refusing to retract false information.
NFL Network ex jock mediots bashing NE and the Hoodie on air because they couldn’t defeat the Pats on the field.
    etc etc etc.
And Belichick knows the damage that can be inflicted by bloated bureaucracies with no mechanism for self control. Like the Federal Government, the NFL is an unchecked, rigged operation designed to enrich the privileged rulers.
    Bravo Bill!

  16. We should vote the dictates of our conscience not someone else’s. What Earthly difference does it make who some coach or athlete is voting for? Some of us should also be more careful with our assumptions:

Like everything else that comes out of Trump’s mouth, his saying that Belichick and Brady voted for him is an absolute LIE.

  17. that would be very disappointing. not just for supporting the orangeatang but for writing something so stylistically foolish.

Belicheck (and Brady) have damn good reasons to despise the media but that’s no excuse for supporting Trump who has defiantly gotten far less criticism, far more free publicity and a far bigger pass on his many extreme failings than he should have from the media.

  18. I am shocked. Cheaters and liars supporting a cheater and a liar.

Just wait until the “they hate us cause they aint us” crowd arrives and denounces the Patriots 15 year history of cheating.

  19. This shouldn’t be a problem at all. It’d guess it would only effect his standings with minority’s playing in the NFL and we all know how few of them there are.

  20. It’s amazing how much the media are sheep for the democrats…..

A football player or coach backs Trump and there is a story trying to demonize them.

A football player or coach back Shillary and there isn’t a peep.

Does anyone even know that Tomlin and Alshon Jeffery publicly backed Shillary? There are many other sports figures that have too. Jim Brown, Tony Gonzalez, etc. I don’t remember seeing them stories being put on here. No one trying to demonize them or get clarification why they are voting for that person.

It’s disgusting honestly. Democrats say why does Russia want Trump so bad….. Why does Saudi Arabia and Qatar want Shillary so bad? I am pretty sure that the terrorism they support is what we are at war with, not Russia.

  21. So he’s “proud” of the campaign that Trump has run over the past year? I don’t care if he votes for him because its expected. But to say that this man has run an honorable campaign and is a champion for ALL Americans regardless of race, gender, economic status, religion, sexual orientation is a joke!
The greatest benefit of this Trump campaign has been that the hearts of MANY have now been exposed and regardless of who wins tonight, the world knows you for who you TRULY are………..

  22. okay – now go back and reread those comments and picture Belichick at the podium after a game saying exactly those words.

    Little bit different feel.

  23. It never ceases to amaze me how we can reduce a person to being liked or disliked based on one small part of who they are.

    That is insanity!!!!

  24. So lets say roughly half the people in the US will vote for Clinton and half will vote for Trump. Why would it be shocking for anyone to come out in support of either candidate?

Our country gets dumber by the day.
All because Brady was so dumb putting a Trump hat in his locker.

    ————

Any person has the right to support either candidate. Presidential voting choice should not make you like or dislike a person. Celebrity, neighbor, friend or otherwise.

  26. It’s so weird that the same type of people that come to these threads to belittle and berate fans of other teams would be the same type that support Trump. Weird indeed…

  27. The only connection that I can make is BB is VERY anti Corporation and Hillary is the Corporation Candidate.

  28. “Belichick hasn’t publicly commented on the issue…”

“Belichick won’t be available to reporters until Wednesday. Whether and to what extent he addresses the situation in detail…”

What issue/situation? Belichick allegedly sent a letter to Trump. So what? If Trump is the candidate Belichick supports, then so be it. Why should he be obligated to explain anything further? The same would be true if he had sent a letter to Hillary Clinton.

  29. Even if Belichick were racist enough to support Trump, surely he isn’t delusional enough to believe that Trump has a chance of winning this election.

  31. This really doesn’t sound like something BB would write or say. I’m not saying that he’s not a Trump supporter (who knows?), but I have a hard time believing that he wrote this

  32. Respect bill for his right to endorse which ever candidate he wants. I’ll take this moment to express that I don’t care for either candidate but billary is clearly the more evil of the two. Just check out John Podesta, pizza parties, Lolita Island, Jeffrey Epstein, the Clinton foundation, child sex slavery, Dennis Hastert, the rothschilds, George soros and satanism and you’ll see that the failures and mistakes of trump pale in comparison to Hillary.

Except BB has never in his professional career spoken of politics or made it public in any fashion whatsoever.

It sounds made up or someone posed as BB and sent the letter.

BB would never do something like this mainly because it could divide the locker room.

I repeat, anyone believing this is seriously a moron.

Even the words used sound like they are mocking what Trump uses.

“Tremendous” and “beautifully”? Give me a break.

No successful person would be praising Trump’s “leadership” either.

Belichick’s parents were teachers and he works with a lot of charities in the background, including helping out with Brady’s Best Buddies work (volunteering to help those with down syndrome, etc).

    Trump mocked handicap people.

    He’s a racist.

He’s someone who doesn’t respect women at all. Belichick has a daughter, a daughter-in-law, a grand daughter, etc.

  34. BB makes 7 million per year and Brady makes more. I highly doubt many people making that kind of money will be voting Dem, regardless of what they think of Trump.

  35. At least Belicheat had the stones to address it with the reporter. Brady had his wife speak for him. What’s with that anyway? Brady is never man enough to speak for himself, instead he has his wife, agent, lawyer, dad, or NFLPA talk for him. What a giant wuss!

It appears he did write a letter. Trump’s paraphrasing not withstanding.

Lots of people with daughters are supporting Trump. Not saying you are wrong about Trump, but it isn’t surprising that BB would support him.

BB is already friends with the guy. What ever he thinks of him personally will be more meaningful then whatever the media reports. We know what BB thinks of most media members.

  37. Technically your individual votes don’t count towards the Presidency.

Electoral college select who is the Persistent not the voting public. You do get to vote but it only really counts to your local politicians. The Presidency is appointed by the electrical college. I expect to be flagged and down votes.

All I ask is please look it up. It use to be taught in High School before standardized testing took over our poor excuse for an education system.

  38. BB is great at what he does but always feels the need to skirt the rules or just flat out cheat.

His support of Trump is not a surprise.

  41. I thought Trump was a complete and utter douche long before he ever ran for president, but now that I’m the father of a little girl, I can’t see him as anything other than a wretched, festering pile.

  42. Deplorable is taking it way too easy on Trump followers. Donald Trump is running an overt campaign of racism and bigotry and anyone who is still supporting him must be a racist bigot plain and simple. Even the Bush camp sees Donnie boy for what he is and openly condemn Trump and his candidacy.

Trump gleefully advocates the use of torture and war crimes. He tells us that to win wars we must torture and kill innocent women, children and families. He acts out and reacts based on lifestyle and appearance, rather than heart, honor and character. He doesn’t seem to understand civility, progress, equality or American values.

Putin / Trumpf 2016 – Make America Hate Again!
Perfect candidate for the GOP, don’t change a thing!

  43. Amazing the media can dig up stuff from years ago to bash Trump but ignore books written this year about Clinton.

  44. I can’t believe BB wrote that letter. It doesn’t sound like him at all, and, additionally, I just can’t imagine someone who hates distractions from players as much as he does sending out a letter that is guaranteed to be a HUGE distraction. I expect a denial in the near future from the greatest coach of all time. I suspect someone clever just pulled off a great troll on BB, the media, and the Trumpster.

  45. If Hillary wins and the Patriots take the Super Bowl, does Hillary invite them to the White House and does Coach B attend? Stay tuned.

  46. I refuse to believe so many football fans are died in the wool leftists judging by the comments on this board all the time. I suspect a boiler room operation flooding the message boards.

  47. He’s a football coach. He knows a lot about football, not about politics. I’m a bit surprised he, of all people, would cause a distraction like this. However the point remains, who cares what candidate a football coach endorses?

  48. He asbsolutely supports trump. Belichick is a historian and a military man. Hes a republican. No way hes supporting a corrupt politician like hillary. Funded by isis supporters, george soros and the main stream media. Oh she also pays mentally ill people to incite violence at trump rallies.

Knowing that fans of 31 teams loathe him out of jealousy, and that the New England area won’t be fooled, or swayed, Belichick is giving the Kiss Of Death to small-hands Trump.

When was the last time Bill has whined about anything??
Never! Love him or hate him….he does not whine.

So your answer to that is to call liberals communists? Wouldn’t you say that is insulting them because you don’t agree with them?

  60. I find it appalling that people say supporting Trump is so awful, but they are supporting Hillary- a woman who proved incompetent as Secretary of State. Her inaction got an ambassador killed. He sent emails asking for more security. When he, and three men who tried to save him were killed, she and Obama pretended it was because of outrage over a video. At a congressional committee about the incident, she said “what difference does it make”? The difference, you crook, is that if your department had taken action, they wouldn’t be dead. Then there is the carelessness over her classified emails. Even if you are the most ardent Clinton supporter, you have to know if she weren’t who she were, she’d be facing criminal charges.

  61. I am not voting. I respect everyones position after all they are mostly voting for those that will improve their lifestyle subjectively. These guys are famous for playing a game you shouldnt base your vote on them when you have literally nothing in common. Its sad that most are voting for the lesser of 2 evils because both candidates suck. I acknowledge this and wont support either which is somehow miscontrued as supporting the oppoistion by the republicans and democrats both regardless of the fact that I am abstaining. What a world.

  62. Not even an, “as confirmed by someone with intimate details and password access to Bill Belichick’s broken tablet.” Give me a break.

Belichick is not going to bring that sort of controversy into the locker room. And as was made clear during the Jamie Collins post trade press conference, Tom Curran is not someone Belichick considers he needs to confide in.

Goodell..Cronies… Meet “The Angry Orange Man”

  65. It shocks me that a society as great as ours has a hard time seeing through corruption, manipulation, and arrogance. I do not think these politicians are even trying to hide their true intentions anymore. They just prance Jay Z and Beyoncé out in front of people and “it’s all good”. D*mn are we raising some stupid and brainwashed people.

Don’t get me wrong, Trump has some selfish intentions, but his success as a business man (like all true business people, not Wall Street players, but true “sell a product or service” business people) hinges on having a market to sell their products or services to. A socialist society with no currency and no assets is not a market a business can thrive in. I’m still waiting on a politician that genuinely cares for the American people, but for now, there is only one option for someone with a lick of sense.

Exactly. Half the people in the US support Trump. It’s not much of a revelation.
    ________

I wouldn’t say half. I think about 20% actually like Trump, 20% actually like Clinton, and the rest of us wish a meteor would hit North America before the results are in tonight.

  70. I love the Trump voters acting like they’re normal, lol. Just like Rex Ryan, you look sideways at somebody who supports this buffoon when you once thought them to be bright. As one of my die hard Republican friends said, Trump is not a decent human being. That’s not a party affiliation.

  71. I repeat: No way BB himself wrote that. Someone’s playing a little joke on Trump and morons in this country.

Trump also lied and said “brady called me and told he he voted for me”.

    Brady hadn’t voted until today.

  72. Democrats nominated the only person that someone like Trump could beat and the Republicans nominated the only person someone like Clinton could beat…I guess my wish is that whomever is elected not do too much damage to the country…

  73. Why on earth would anyone vote for that retread, Hillary Clinton? Is there not enough nepotism in this country already? So now we have Bill’s wife running for President. That is very cute. You know who is next, don’t you? Chelsea Clinton! You got it! Chelsea would make a fine President of the United States, don’t you think?

Natural followers gravitate towards a monarchy style of government. If you’re a follower, as opposed to a leader, and you thrive in a society rife with nepotism, then vote for the monarchy pick and sleep in the bed you make.

There are no qualified leaders in this country that aren’t born into the monarchy apparently. Does that not concern anyone? Out of hundreds of millions of people, only Bill’s wife was qualified to be President? Sheep will follow so get following, sheep.

  74. I’m not buying it. But then again, it doesn’t surprise me, a lot of smart people think this childish tantrum throwing rich kid should run the country.

I have been forced to vote for Clinton simply because the alternative is this immature ranting simpleton who thinks he made something because he was born rich, stayed rich, and remains rich by screwing over anyone he can.

I’d vote for undead Nixon before I’d vote for Trump.

  75. Stoopid Cheatriot fans tried to deny that this was true yesterday. “Oh no, our great and vaulted coach would never support another liar!”

Guess what? Scum do indeed support other scum.

  76. This is just one more reason to loathe Belicheat–and I do. Trump is beneath contempt and, apparently, Belicheat falls into that category as well. So be it. I hope the Pats lose every game they play (even though I know they won’t) and that Trump is crushed in a Hillary/Democratic landslide.

  77. I would say they are birds of a feather except for one big difference — as much as I dislike Belichick, he is a proven winner. Trump is a loser. Lost a billion, pays no taxes, four bankruptcies, three marriages, decimated Atlantic City, stiffs working people. And that’s just for starters. Without dadyy’s money and his connections, Cheeto would be hustling real estate on Long Island. Belichick at least earned his gold.

  78. Belichick was 36-44 in five seasons with Cleveland. Got fired. Went 5-11 1st season in New England. Bledsoe got hurt second game of second season and they put in Tom Brady who had only attempted 3 passes up until that point. They won the super bowl that year, Brady’s first year playing. An assistant coach was responsible for drafting Brady. Belichick was forced to play him due to an injury. Yep. This guy’s a genius.

  79. “Belichick is a historian and a military man.”
    Baloney!
The man is neither. His father was a football coach, not a military man. Belichick was a Economics major, not a history major. He was never a “military man.”
Like so many, he may slobber all over the military, service men, etc. But it’s all talk. He NEVER served.

  80. Hail Belichick…!!!

At least Trump hasn’t gotten people murdered like Hillary…or should I say crooked Hillary.

Trump gets elected…he’ll make Goodells life very rough…and I love that.

Brady…skipped White House ceremony w/Obama..Belichick should have done so.

  81. BB and Brady love America and hate professional politicians like Goodell and Clinton because they know they will bring the same old same old slow and steady decline mixed with corruption and incompetence.

TRUMP’s not perfect, but Brady and BB know he is the ONLY way to stop the corruption and the cronies that want to exploit the US and drive it into a war with Russia.

  82. Both Brady and Belichick are also sexist bigots that whine when they get caught doing something they shouldn’t have done. Hillary is a strong leader and I’m glad that at 9 pm this thing will be cut short and she will be our president

  83. It’s Belichick’s right to support Trump, just as it’s mine.
All of you who keep calling Trump names conveniently forget that Hillary has been caught in big lies time after time.
That is so typical of liberals. They mud sling more than anyone and act as if they are this caring group of people who welcome all into their fold. It’s a bunch of crap.
And need I remind anyone about Hillary’s lying, cheating husband? She learned from the best (or vice versa).
If Hillary is elected, God help us all.
As for Belichick, he’s a very smart man and obviously he is voting for the better candidate.
I am heading to the voting booth to cancel out one liberal’s vote. I urge all of you who are sick of how the liberals are ruining this country to do the same.

  84. It wouldn’t surprise me if Belichick sent a note but it would surprise me if he sent what Trump read. Belichick has a deep respect for black atheletes (jim brown, bill russell, muhammed ali) who embraced radical principles, he is good friends with bon jovi, and he loathes woody johnson who is a big trump supporter. Belichick’s girlfriend is a trump supporter and I suspect bill was along for the ride. I don’t recall him ever saying how much he loved talking to trump as he often does about people he holds in high regard.

The tell that trump embellished the contents of the letter is how long it took him to read it, with a virtual stutter.

Yep. Look at all of the bozos here that supported Goodell during psigate.

Amazing the media can dig up stuff from years ago to bash Trump but ignore books written this year about Clinton.

Does BB have one likable quality?
    ———————-

    Yep.

  89. BB has shown he’s prone to poor judgment both on and off the field at times throughout his career.

    But he’s still the GOAT.

    Just watch the games.

Being the GOAT only magnifies the scrutiny of those rare lapses….

  90. Wow. I’ve hated BB for years, but….just, wow.

    It’s the media’s fault?

    Trump’s a “great leader”?

    Unreal.

  91. None of the tone, verbiage, or for that matter the mere fact that Belichick isn’t the type to draw attention to anything that isn’t football related, sounds authentic.

Believe what you want to believe though.

“Your leadership is amazing” is 100% John Barron.”

This comment right here is incredibly underrated. That got a good laugh. If only PFT had a ranking style comment system, that belongs at the top.

  93. Poor Myra Kraft is spinning in her grave. With all that’s been revealed in this election cycle about Trump, I hope to never see him in the owner’s box again. The hypocrisy is sickening.

  94. One need only to read this blog to see the huge problems that face this country moving forward. I am 55 and never seen the country so divided. Its frustrating reading these comments because 99% of these keyboard warriors would never hurl insults to someones face that they can on social media.

I repeat: No way BB himself wrote that. Someone’s playing a little joke on Trump and morons in this country.

Trump also lied and said “brady called me and told he he voted for me”.

    Brady hadn’t voted until today.

I know you libs in Taxachussetts don’t want to face it, but both CSN New England and WBZ TV’s Steve Burton have confirmed that the missive was, indeed, legit. One twist: the Nation’s Dave Zirin reports on Twitter that despite Trump’s claims, Belichick did not intend for the letter to be read out loud.

Also it was confirmed Brady voted Monday in Brookline. Right in the Boston Herald.

I love it! Now all you Patsie fans have to face the fact that your big two are deplorables. Enjoy!

  96. Yep, the People’s Republic of Massachussets now have Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, Proud Deplorables Proudly Making America Great Again.

    The Belichick letter. Confirmed.

Brady voted a day early. Confirmed.

    Enjoy your reality.

  97. Whatever you political choices are one thing is true. There are a large number of voters in the United States who are sick and tired of what is going on with our political system. It is broken and corrupt and if we do not do something pretty soon we will not have much of a country left for our kids and grandchildren let alone generations farther into the future. If you do not believe me look no farther that Trumps popularity. There is no way he should be in this position yet he is, it is a testament to the frustration in watching our govt waste our hard earned tax dollars. I do not believe Trump will win but I hope this election ends up as a death knell for the corruption we are experiencing.

As far as BB and Brady are concerned, they are entitled to their opinions, and we may not always agree with them. Personally, I’d choose either of those to be POTUS long before what we have for choices right now.

  99. GOAT?

The real GOAT is Joe Montana. Newsflash, like your Pretty Boy Tommy, he also has 4 Rings and he played in an era when the qbs didn’t wear skirts. He also had class, didn’t cheat, wasn’t controlled by his celebrity wife, and was a Man, virtues that Prince Tom will never have. Keep drinking the Kool aide baby, but there is only one GOAT and Shady ain’t it! Thanks Joe. Thanks for being the best!

Not a surprise the homer posting for the Pat’s is not the brightest bulb on the bandwagon team . Never take what he says seriously because he is a bleating sheepie cheerleader. And to Brady he is lying again to someone…..probably his wife.

  101. Nofoolnodrool:

The real joke is that now all the smug progressive Pats fans who so look down on “deplorables” now have to face the painful reality that both their legendary head coach AND QB are all in for Trump. Oh the hilarity! I doubt we’ll see our friend tylawspick here anymore either.

Not just deplorable, but hypocrites. They better not ever mention Myra Kraft again. Throwing your support behind that serial abuser of women means you do not get to cheapen that woman’s legacy by trying to cash in on it. Same goes for Robert. Deplorable.

    ==================================================

Yeah, because voting for the woman who covered up and enabled a serial womanizer (at best) and alleged rapist, who flew to “Pedophile Island” on numerous occasions is the pinnacle of virtue. Face it both candidates are horrible human beings. I will take the one who doesn’t deserve to be in jail for gross negligence in handling state secrets while at the highest level of government.

  104. “…that serial abuser of women…”

There has been nothing funnier during this entire sad process than watching Clinton supporters in high dudgeon about Donald Trump’s treatment of women. Seriously. I know that Bill (that’s Bill Clinton, serial rapist, abetted and enabled by Hillary for years in her quest for power) left office 16 years ago, and maybe some people’s awareness is limited to the (entirely false) storyline that he was impeached “for cheating on his wife,” but still, it’s hilarious to see anyone pro-Clinton un-ironically criticizing someone else’s behavior towards women…

  105. He “hasn’t commented on the issue”…what exactly is the *issue* requiring a comment????

  106. I would expect BB to tell just the first person who stuck a mic in his face that it was a note to a friend. on to Seattle. I will take questions on the later.

  107. Clearly the left has no morals, integrity or character. 🙂

If they did they wouldn’t have nominated the most corrupt presidential nominee in our country’s history otherwise known as Crooked Hillary.

So the Repugnant’s who last time around initiated a war based upon a lie, profiting from it for 7 of the 8 years Cheney was in office, and then capped that shady performance with a financial International meltdown unlike what has been seen since the Great Depression.

And you’re speaking about “morals, integrity, and character?”
