Carroll tells Rex to coach his own team, Rex fires back

After a hard-fought game on Monday night, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll and Bills coach Rex Ryan were still sniping at each other on Tuesday.

Carroll didn’t take kindly to Ryan having words with Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman during the game, saying today that Ryan ought to focus on his own players.

“I just wish he’d coach his own team,” Carroll said of Ryan. “Just coach your own guys.”

Told of Carroll’s comments, Ryan wasn’t pleased.

“As a matter of fact I do coach my own guys and I’m proud of the team that I coach,” Ryan said. “We haven’t had the results that we shoot for every time but I’m proud of this group and yeah, I have no problem. I do coach my own guys but I forgot, I guess I should have asked Pete when somebody asked me a question about one of his players, I should have asked Pete about the appropriate response I guess.”

It’s a shame the Seahawks and Bills play each other only once every four years, and may never see each other again with Carroll and Ryan as their coaches. Because this is the kind of game that has the potential to create a bitter rivalry.

  1. Hey, check out ctiggs, back in action.

Looks like 30 other teams have it better than you and your 9ers, this year.

Sad times for the wine amd cheese tailgaters.

Rex will be breaking out his Brady jersey when Seattle visits New England on Sunday night.

  3. They lose, they whine. They win, they still whine. And then they wonder why no one likes them…

  4. Sherman did the right thing to play to the whistle. He didn’t do anything to try and hurt the kicker. Maybe he should wipe the scowl off of his face if it was aimed at Rex, but that’s about it.

Actually i am a Ohio State fan as ive noted many times on this site. Love how raider fans come out of no where when their team isnt even that good. Hate all you want but you were in the womb the last time the raiders won a playoff game. We Lol at the raiders.

  6. I guess post elections Carroll vs Ryan will replace trump vs Clinton to entertain the nation?

  7. “…and may never see each other again with Carroll and Ryan as their coaches.”

Or, Stan Kroenke will finally wake up in January, fire Jeff Fisher, and Carroll and Ryan will coach against each other twice a year. Hey…stranger things have happened.

  8. Dear God media. The game is over. It’s done. One won. One lost. The excitement is gone. Over. Move on.
Id rather watch the pre game show of niners-browns Match up.

  9. Hypocrisy is never a good look. I like Pete Carroll but he didn’t seem to have any problem talking about Rex’s kicker: “That guy, he hams it up a little bit, too, which made it bad,”

Rex is a lot of things and can be a true horse’s rear at times but I can’t recall a single moment where he he was a hypocrite.

  10. It was a flawed but great game. Too bad crappy officiating had to play such a huge part. Had Buffalo been awarded the FG just before halftime, they would have tied it at the end of regulation and we would have been treated to OT.

But the Bills have themselves to blame. 12penalties for one and Taylor missed so open guys (except Sherman in the end zone). This is a typical game that frustrates Bills fan to no end…prime time…on the road…huge opponent…play decent but still lose. Hate to blame coaching but when the work force fails to get the job done, the one person to answer for it is the boss!

Pete chomps gum. Rex chomps spaghetti

    Gotta say, advantage Rex.

That was not called roughing the kicker was a disgrace. And then that the ref stood over the ball until five were left on the play clock and then called delay of game is a disgrace.

  13. If Pete’s “star” cornerback had any manners, other coaches wouldn’t have to tell them to behave themselves. And to think Rex Ryan looks like the class-act here. That really says something about how pathetic the sportsmanship is of that loudmouth chump that talks out of both sides of his mouth (Sherman).

  14. @mullman

Your team hasn’t made the playoffs since Facebook or Twitter existed and could be possibly moving cities AGAIN.

You really shouldn’t be getting too carried away calling out other fanbases.

  15. Meanwhile the RYAN brothers are sitting on the sidelines throwing a childlike tantrums . COME ON REX you are a JOKE of a coach. Your talking shyt to a player calling him dirty when he clearly was NOT doing anything intentional then your players go into the locker room and start tweeting ( INSTEAD OF FOCUSING ON THE GAME) and when Sherman gets a Pick you get stared at WELL DESERVED after calling him out of his names. And you say he needs to go back to his sideline and not act like a fool.

Again this is why REX is a clown except for everyone naturally hates the seahawks so they rush to here and call it cheating anytime something marginal goes their way.

I have no dog in the hunt, but now that you mention it Mr. Tiggs, I haven’t seen you and your nifty saying on here much lately….

  18. 0 titles, longest active playoff drought in pro sports…. Not even going to bring up division record.

Even the Brown’s are better than that.

    Keep talking Rex

Speaking of fan bases, the last time I watched a 49er’s game the New Stadium was only about half full…..Did anyone tell the San Fransisco fans that their Team moved up to Santa Clara?

  21. A lot of unnecessary puss oozing out because the officials so blatantly screwed up that situation. Sherman made a bad on the field screw up, should have been held accountable–and wasn’t. Now, an undeserving group has to deal with the result of the officials failing so miserably to do some basic arbitrating.

I never cared for the Bills, nor their coach. But what happened to them was as unfair as can be and a day later that the stench follows them around also isn’t fair.
Carrol should have been above this–should have been.

  22. They don’t “award” field goals in football. You have to kick the football through the uprights to get 3 points.

Something the Bills kicker has a hard time doing outside the 40 yard line.

  23. Wow, another wrong call by the refs going Seattle’s way. Just like the “fail mary” against Green Bay and Richard Sherman’s no call pass interference against Phoenix. So what’s in it for the refs when they go to Seattle??

What ever it is, it won’t change how Bad the Packers are at Home huh?…….

  26. I blame the loss on rob ryan. Look up the defensive stats of the last two teams he coached. Results as usual for rob. Nepotism and the good ole boys network is the only reason he is employed.

  27. I’m a Patriots fan who does not dislike Rex Ryan. He makes the game fun. I love his passion even though it’s sometimes misdirected. Pete Carroll is too smug for his own good. Since the Patriots have a safe lead over the Bills, I was pulling for Rex and the Bills last night.

  28. Not a Rex fan but in this case he was justified in calling Sherman out. If you watch the tape slowly and carefully you can see Sherman knew he was way offside and he started to hesitate and then went for the kicker. The part time refs really acre ed up the entire scenario.

  29. Rex was jawing at Sherman at halftime. Watch the video. The stare from Sherman came after the int and all the talk Rex was giving out.

Rex was not a victim here at all.

  30. That was not called roughing the kicker was a disgrace. And then that the ref stood over the ball until five were left on the play clock and then called delay of game is a disgrace.

Shows how little Pats fans really understand about football.

Rule clearly says no roughing if the ball is touched first.

    And it was.

Stick to defending a court proven cheating franchise.

  31. Don’t understand the Ryan support on this at all. His team failed miserably last night because they are a poorly coached team. On that play, Sherman did exactly what he was supposed to do. And he did it well. Carpenter, on the other hand, didn’t. If he had been properly coached, he would have known his team was out of timeouts and that rolling around pretending he was hurt would require he come out of the game. Fortunately, someone on the team knew the rule and the Bills spiked the ball giving Carpenter another opportunity. But he still missed it.
Carroll was right in what he said ie “Stop telling my guys how to play incorrectly and as Brady says, read the rule book.” Don’t know why Carroll would want to give a competitor coaching tips, but he was right.

  32. If you watch the video slowly and carefully??…..oh brother…so since the whistle wasn’t blown right away….had Sherman stopped and given up, the kick is off and if made, they decline penalty and take points. Just like when on most offsides, the announcer says….’free play for the offense’ and they usually heave it way down field t get lucky or maybe even a PI. Seattle gave up on a defensive play against the Jets when it looked like an incomplete forward pass, one guy on Jets picks ball up and runs 45 yards while everyone stood around and it ended up being a forward fumble and cheap TD. Do you not think Seattle has been coached on screwy scenarios and how to defend against cheap scores??

  33. The Patriots are going to have to protect their AFC East little brother “the Bills” and absolutely pummel the Seahawks next week….

  34. Carroll talking about Tarvaris Jackson in Minnesota: “He’s been jerked around.”

Carroll talking about Rex talking about Carroll’s’ players: “I just wish he’d coach his own team”

Carroll can talk about other team’s players when it suits him but don’t ever talk about Petey’s players.

That is the type of person Pete Carroll is.

  35. Sherman must the best athlete in the history of special teams as, I have never seen someone try to block a FG with their face, he didn’t even bother putting his hands up.

Why would he do that though, cuz then he would have been hitting the kicker with his arms instead of placing his helmet right on his plant knee.

He also had that play at the end of the game where he lights up the receiver 40 yards away on the lat play of the game, totally legal, but that’s the kind of “Physical play” he is known for.

  36. Rex was yapping at Sherman. Sherman stared him down after the int.

What did Pete say that was so bad? He came to the defense of his player after Rex talked about him. Didn’t even say to back off or anything. Just a more civilized version.

And you haters cry and hate. Sherman made a smart play. He needed to make sure the kick didn’t go in because they could just decline the offsides penalty and take the points.

Like someone else said they don’t award those points, you have to kick the ball through the uprights. If you screw up and jump offsides you better make sure the guy doesn’t make the kick. Especially with three seconds left.

  37. Rex Ryan is clearly the dumbest coach in the NFL. His response was such utter nonsense and only goes to show that he doesn’t understand the question he was asked. I HATE Pete Carroll and Rex Ryan but at least Carroll is an intelligent person and good coach. Rex Ryan is a complete idiot and disgrace to the NFL shield.

  38. .
Rex will be breaking out his Brady jersey when Seattle visits New England on Sunday night.

More than that, 31 team’s fan base will be rooting for the Patriots.

    ———————————–
It’s actually DOWN in Santa Clara and in more ways than geographical.

  40. Rex used to be all pride and bluster. Now he’s all whine. Guess you can only ride your dad’s reputation so far.

  41. Rex: I coach my own team, including coaching them to rough up a 3rd string rookie QB during warm-ups when no officials and few teammates are around.

  42. Placed his helmet on his plant knee? You know, you would look a lot less stupid if you had merely watched one of the many replays or seen the close up pictures that showed no such thing. THey are all over the place. Look them up.

  43. “Sherman did the right thing to play to the whistle. He didn’t do anything to try and hurt the kicker.”

Problem was that the whistle had blown LONG before he dove, so yeah, play to the whistle….
