Dolphins cut cornerback Bene Benwikere

The Dolphins gave Bene Benwikere a shot, even if they didn’t put him in a game.

According to Tom Pelissero of USA Today, the Dolphins waived the cornerback they claimed off  waivers from the Panthers Tuesday.

Benwikere hadn’t been active for a game, so they must not have liked the way he was practicing.

The Panthers cut the former fifth-rounder earlier this year, getting rid of a guy who was starting for them at a time when they were overhauling the position. He’s shown some flashes, but being released from a pair of secondary-needy teams is not a good sign for his future prospects.

Dolphins have the 8th best pass defense right now and have only allowed multiple TD passes in 2 of their 8 games. Not to mention that Miami’s defense is stopping teams from converting on 3rd down, currently the 1st in the league. Maybe Miami’s secondary is not as needy as you want them to be.

It’s also possible being 30th in run D may have influenced some of the play calling against that pass D.

  3. I think this had more to do with Culliver about to be activated. McCain plays well in the Nickel and Howard should be back soon. Byron Maxwell is decent when he wants to be, but goes from great to horrendous pretty quickly. Tony Lippett is still a project and will always be until they release him. For a bunch of no names (except Maxwell) they have over-achieved. I wonder what they would be like with actual Starters? Look what happened to this team with a Starting OLine! Yes, the Fins are are the way up, finally.
