The Panthers let the Chiefs hang around a little too long, and it cost them a chance to save their season.
Thanks to a pair of defensive plays, the Chiefs came back for a 20-17 win on the road, improving to 7-2 on the season.
The Panthers were up comfortably, 17-3 to start the fourth quarter after a 20-play drive which ended in a punt. But unable to put points on the board there was costly, as the Chiefs came back with a Eric Berry pick-six, and followed with a field goal to tie the game.
The Panthers had a chance to win the game themselves, but cornerback Marcus Peters ripped the ball away from Panthers wideout Kelvin Benjamin to set up a game-winning field goal by Cairo Santos.
The Panthers had won two in a row to spark hope of another late-season rally, but now they’re 3-6 and wondering what to make of a season gone so wrong after last year’s 15-1.
