Jerry Jones: Dak Prescott the starter, and “it’s not hard at all”

Tony Romo wasn’t active today, so there wasn’t a choice to be made.

But according to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, it’s not a choice at all, and rookie Dak Prescott is going to remain their starter regardless Romo’s health.

Jones told reporters that it was apparent that Prescott was going to keep the job, after leading the Cowboys to an eighth straight win, this one over the Steelers.

“We’re going to let this decision in this case make itself,” Jones said, via Todd Archer of ESPN.com. “Dak’s got a hot hand and we’re going to go with it.”

“It’s not hard at all,” he added. “Tony would make the same decision. That’s what you do.”

Of course, it’s remained a question for so long because Jones has consistently talked around it, allowing Romo’s fractured back to give him an easy out. And there’s always the option to go back to Romo if Prescott ever starts looking like a rookie again, but he’s looked like anything but so far.

  1. More like Elliot is the starter. With him in there all the QB has to do is manage games. Not saying that like it’s a bad thing either. Though, I can’t help but think they’ll need Romo for a playoff run cause that’s when you need to take risks.

  2. It is crushing Romo’s ego but better that than getting his spine crushed again. Be thankful that Jerruh has decided for once to not try to get you killed out there.

  3. Ive been pro-Romo returning to start whenever he is deemed completely healthy, and in football shape, but it’s becoming more difficult to argue that point when Dak rattles off 8 straight wins….I still contend the Boys would be 9-0 if Romo had remained healthy to start the season, and is the better QB……but if Jerry is content to ride Dak’s hot hand…so be it, but they need to make a decision for next season…Either Romo competes for his job back, or they trade him, in which again leaves them with no serviceable back up QB…..

  4. An ‘outsider’ wins the presidency after all the pundits gave him up for dead, there’s a super moon and Jerrah is being sensible. At this point all we need is for Goodell to display an ounce of integrity and that’s it…The Apocalypse

  5. Wow.. they should be able to collect some draft picks for Romo… time to start upgrading the defense

  6. Jerry wants Romo to be the starting quarterback for the Cowboys organization, if they win Super Bowl 51. Jerry wants Romo on the big stage, when the Lombardi Trophy is paseed around, from owner to quarterback, he can taste it. Jerry has already been quoted that he would be disappointed, if the Cowboys organization were to win ua Super Bowl, without Romo having a hand in the success.

This reminds me of the Peyton Manning Plan, owhere, Payton was on shelf, and for about 6 weeks, getting healthy, as soon as he was activate, the pressure got to Osweilder. Kubiak, decision was easy, go back to the hall of famer. I see that same scenario, playing out in Dallas.

  7. Not what that goof said four weeks ago. “When he’s healthy Tony will be the starter” was his exact quote!

Did Jerry just become the head coach?

What do you mean “just” become? When did he stop?

P.S. Fielding trade offers for next off-season. Start bidding at 2 first round picks.

Best guess is that someone gives up a 4th round pick for an aged, oft-injured QB with a penchant for making bone head plays in crunch time. Also, not your best bet as holder on extra points.

  10. What kind of idiot makes the starting QB hold on field goals, anyway? Bill Parcells rode an 80’s rep for a long time.

  11. Tony Romo and Dak Prescott situation is similar to Drew Bledsoe and Brady. Rookie QB comes in for an injured starter and never gives up the job.

Bluebongzilla, that’s ridiculous… no one is giving up a single first rounder for Romo and his contract, let alone two.

Depends – is Haslam still talking to that homeless guy in Cleveland?

  13. Romo isnt getting any draft picks…he’s just going to be a huge financial problem. Dallas would literally have to give up a 2nd/3rd round pick to entice another team to absorb his 19.6 mill hit next year. Good grief. No team is giving ANYTHING for him.

  14. We still match up good with them. We’re the only team you can’t run on like you’ve been doing.

  15. Also, remember guys, my Giants beat the cowboys…and my Giants are not a very good team. Then again, as Im watching this Sea/Ne game, maybe there are no very good teams in the NFL this year.

With all due respect Mr. Mara, both Seattle and New England would beat your Giants.

  17. “Why can’t the head coach be the one to say this???”

Because he’s too busy coaching the best team in the NFL.

Romo starting QB for Denver next year

And how long would Romo last going up against Mack, Houston and Bosa twice each every year? Romo wants no part of the AFC West.

  19. That Dallas O line is freaking incredible. I saw MULTIPLE run plays where they pushed the defense 3 to 4 yards down field. Elliot could have literally tripped every carry and still finished with 50 to 80 yards rushing. Exaggeration maybe but not that far off.

The winning run looked like a walk in the park. Nobody touched Elliot.

Take that prediction to Vegas and bet the house. I’m sure you’ll get some great odds. I’m equally certain you’ll be homeless.

I wasn’t aware that Mara had sold the Giants. Hope you got a great deal by using some 50% off coupons….

Bob Kraft wrote a book entitled”How to Build a Winning Team”.

    3 Chapters

    1) Find the right GM
    2) Sign the checks.
    3) GET OUT OF THE WAY

He sent a copy to Jerruh but JJ send it back unopened.

If you honestly think Romo wins all eight of the games that Dak won AND the one that he lost, I don’t think you’re seeing clearly.
