When will Jared Goff be ready? Goff believes he is

The Rams consistently have said that quarterback Jared Goff will start when he’s ready. The fact that he’s not starting means (duh) that he’s not. Goff has a different view of the situation.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Goff believes he’s ready now. The more accurate statement, then, may be not whether Goff is ready to play but whether Fisher is ready to play Goff. For whatever reason, Fisher is intent on protecting Goff, which could be a desire by Fisher to, in a roundabout way, protect himself.

Regardless, Goff believes he’s ready to play. The longer this lingers, the greater the chance that tension will emerge between player and team, since the “Goff isn’t ready” excuse singles him out as the reason for the fact that he’s not playing.

Which possibly creates the impression that he is or will be a bust.

  1. Not saying that Goff is a bust or anything close (goodness he hasn’t even played) but my thought has been that Fisher drafted him to extend his own coaching career (such as it is). He can ride out the “we’re still developing the new QB, boss” for as long as he can get away with it. Just my two centavos.

  2. We’re enjoying Dak Prescott so much, we can wait for Jared. I know Goff is ready, but think of it this way. Dak Prescott is ready, and he’d be sitting too if Romo didn’t get injured. Wentz just beat Atlanta today. He looks ready. But he’d be sitting if Bridgewater didn’t get injured. Nobody got injured in L.A., so Goff is still sitting. Maybe we should all just chill out a little.

  3. Jeff Fisher is really good at keeping his job so he must be up to something. My guess is he’s trying to make the playoffs and feels Keenum gives him the best chance.

  4. Like I said before he needs to keep Jared off of the field for as long as possible so that he can sell the idea that next year is going to be the awesome new Rams. That way he can get his contract extension

  5. Watching Hard Knocks made me think Goff was not too bright…..not knowing the Sun rose in the east???

Overrated college stats, small hands and seems to be missing a “leader” mindset…..Magic 8 Ball says : “Too early to tell, but probably a bust”

You should have heard the things they were saying about Joe Montana while he road the pine his first two years. Didn’t have a strong enough arm. Was strictly a backup type. Not a great leader. etc., etc.

  7. Fisher is in a tough spot. If he plays Goff and he does well, people will say he should have been in there earlier.

If he sucks people will say he’s a bust or wasn’t ready.

Keeping him benched is the easier/safer option.

  8. History tends to repeat itself. Ryan Leaf also wore jersey #16 when drafted by a southern California NFL Team. At that time, it was the chargers who picked the wrong guy.

  9. Listen, you can’t bring in your prized rookie QB until your running game is figured out. And all of these other teams with starting rookie RBs are on teams with successful running games. Seems pretty obvious that as Gurley improves, you also hear talk of Goff improving.

  10. Look at the abs who have thrived as rookies, with a good def, good o-line, good running game. Wilson, Dak, Rothelisberger. I don’t think Goff will be in that Andrew Luck category where he can make up for no running game and bad o-line. Let him play late in the season and then build a offensive line around him and ride Gurley. Crazy that people are throwing out the bust label already.

  11. It would be interesting to see where they would be if they had picked Wentz or Dak. This pick is on Fisher or whoever thought Goff was worthy of the first overall pick. Im assuming Fisher since he answers only to the owner. The guy cant get on the field with a team that cant score touchdowns. Not worthy of the first overall pick.
