Steelers activate Dupree, place Wheaton on IR

The Steelers made a host of roster moves Saturday, most notably promoting outside linebacker Bud Dupree from the team’s injured-reserve list.

Dupree required surgery to treat an abdominal injury. He missed the whole preseason but returned to practice recently and will be eligible to play Sunday vs. the Browns.

A 2015 first-round pick, Dupree had four sacks as a rookie and played a significant role on defense in the back half of the season. The Steelers only have 13 sacks this season and have struggled against the run, too, during their current four-game losing streak, so a healthy Dupree will be a welcome addition.

The Steelers also placed wide receiver Markus Wheaton and defensive end Cameron Heyward on their injured-reserve list and promoted running back Daryl Richardson from the practice squad.

Wheaton injured his shoulder in practice prior to last week’s game, while Heyward suffered a torn pectoral in last week’s game. Richardson could play Sunday as veteran running back DeAngelo Williams is still recovering from knee surgery.
