Cowboys rookie Anthony Brown has “no respect” for Steve Smith

Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith became the 14th player in league history with 1,000 catches during Sunday afternoon’s game against the Cowboys.

He also added to a personal list of bad blood with defensive backs, a metric that’s not officially tabulated by the league but which would surely feature Smith at or near the top of the list if it did. It’s rookie cornerback Anthony Brown this time.

Smith caught eight passes for 89 yards during the game and scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter while Brown was guarding him on a slant route. Brown didn’t point to that or any other specific moment for why he was left with a bad impression of the veteran wideout, but was sure to share that Smith made one.

“I had respect for him before the game, but after the game I have no respect for him anymore,” Brown said, via the Dallas Morning News. “He’s a real character, and I actually saw it for myself [Sunday]. I don’t got nothing to say about Steve Smith. Coming into the game they already told me what kind of player he was. But until you see it for yourself, then you’re just, ‘calm down,’ but it’s hard because he keeps yapping after every play. It’s kind of hard.”

Brown joins Jalen Ramsey of the Jaguars as rookies who got a heavy dose of Smith this season. Smith’s expected to retire after this season, so the chances for other young players to join the club are running short.

  1. Didn’t he have a falling out with Cam too when he was in Carolina ? He must really get under people’s skin. Then again, it’s probably why he hasn’t won a Super Bowl either, especially if you end up treating your teammates like you do your opponents.

Or his teammates have never been able to match his skill and desire in the field . How many of his former teammates have rings? Your entire argument is pointless .

  3. I may be a Cowboy fan but I’m also a football fan and I love Steve Smith. At times today he seemed to be all the Ravens had today but that aside I like his style and his attitude. I like Anthony Brown too but that PC watch what you say stuff has no place on a football field which is why you don’t see any latte sipping man buns on the field.

  4. How do you not like Steve? He had a falling out with cam because cam is a lazy cry baby with less pass accuracy than Jake Delhome on a bad day. Cam stinks… wish Carolina would trade him for romo

  5. All I noticed from any Ravens player wasn’t zuttah getting flagged after every other play… lol. I’m a lifelong cowboys fan but I love SR…. his trash talking is his way of getting hisself fired up and secure in the game of football… SR napoleon complex. Gotta love smitty tho

  6. #999 was an amazing catch. If that would have been his #1000, we’d be seeing it everywhere today.

  7. Rookies should always pay respect to veteran players even if you don’t like them. This is an immature comment. Sounds like Sr. got under his skin and it was still festering. I wish Smith was a Raven his whole career.

  8. Previous articles about Smith are filled with adoring comments. This one is filled with disparaging comments.

This place can be so schizo sometimes.

  9. I give the Cowboys props for the way their season is going but the officiating in that game was straight “home cooking!” So many missed holding calls and at least three missed personal fouls (including the one they gave to Sr where the Cowboy player was trying to twist his helmet around?! It was probably this guy whining that did it. Quit crying, you won.

  10. Headline should be: Cowboys Rookie Still Whining Even After Winning

That kid can’t hold Smitty’s jock. 8 receptions for 99 yards and a TD is pretty good in a losing effort for an inferior team. Yeah, he talks nonstop. That’s what makes him fun.
