Giants motivate Terrelle Pryor by saying they’re not impressed

A couple of Giants defensive backs have said this week that they’re not overly concerned with the prospect of covering Browns receiver Terrelle Pryor on Sunday, and Pryor has taken notice.

When Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins was asked if he thought covering Pryor would be a big challenge, Jenkins answered, “No.”

“Because he’s another receiver,” said Jenkins. “He’s just big.”

Giants safety Landon Collins is also not particularly impressed with Pryor.

“Pryor only has some height over [Jenkins],” Collins said. “Other than that . . . Pryor is not as fast as him, or as quick, so [Jenkins] is going to be able to beat some of his routes before he gets to them.”

When Pryor heard about those comments, he took to Twitter and responded, “We will see Sunday. Never wanted to play the game as much as I do this Sunday!”

Browns-Giants isn’t exactly a scintillating matchup, but Pryor against the Giants’ secondary will be worth watching.

  1. I’m not a fan of either team, but Pryor is having a very good season. At his current pace, and assuming he remains injury-free, he projects to have 90+ receptions and over 1200 yards. And that’s with arguably the most unsettling QB situation of any team in the league.

  2. Pryor is a great story but he has had twice as many pedestrian games (< 75 yds) than big ones. For all that they were maligned the first few games before they jelled the Giants D has come together over the past month. That doesn't mean they are in a position to take anyone lightly.

  3. Never ceases to amaze me that some players cannot just do their talking on the field. This should be a stage setting game for the Giants last five, but they have proven in the past that they cannot stand prosperity. We’ll see.

  4. What is Terrelle Pryor supposed to say? You’re right!! I would like to be the QB on a team that has had 26 different ones since 1999 but they made me a receiver? Cody Kessler Rocks

  5. This is a classic trap game and as a Giants fan nothing pisses me off more than when they talk junk. Yes, lets motivate a team with nothing to lose. Smart. SMH

  6. For the trainwreck that the Browns are, how can you not give him accolades for the work he put in to reinvent himself as a productive NFL player?

  7. Most everyone can get behind Pryor’s feel good story but it’s hard to believe the chip on Pryor’s shoulder is going to get any bigger than it already was. His numbers are about what you’d expect from an average #1 receiver, that he’s put them up playing with the Browns revolving door of QB’s is what makes them noteworthy.

  8. I think Pryor’s transformation has been incredible. I figured when he washed out at QB that was it. I really didn’t expect him to succeed at WR but he has done very well–especially when you consider how little experience he has at WR. Like him or not, he deserves some respect for what he has done. Funny thing is every other story isn’t about him like some other washed out QB.

  9. Some teams have class and some don’t. My father always said if you can’t say something nice about someone keep your mouth shut.

I’m surprised Mr. Mara didn’t make the comment.

  10. Pryor is a great player on a gosh darn historically awful disgrace of a team…. but according to my analytics they are on the right path…..lol lol lol

    0-12…..

  11. If the Giant D line continues to play like it has in the last few games, Pryor won’t have a chance to get his hands on the ball.

  12. The Giants are one of those teams that isn’t as good as their record (sorry, Bill Parcells). They’re certainly not good enough to talk trash and it’s a reflection on their coaching that they seem to think it’s ok to do so.

  13. As a GIANTS fan knowing the GIANTS have taken the field these last few years devoid of any confidence and usually play the pc role to upcoming contest this is a breath of fresh air !

the hubris that resides with the giants organization is dumbfounding to me.
    _______________

As opposed to the hubris of your Cowboys that haven’t won so much as a divisional playoff game in 20 years?

  15. Incentive? C’mon, as a highly paid professional he shouldn’t need “incentive”. What did anyone expect Jenkins (a solid shutdown corner this year) and Collins (NFL defensive MVP?) to say? “Wow, this guy scares me/us to death”?
    Get real.

Every game is a trap for the Giants.

  17. After 5 wins in a row by less than a TD against mediocre teams with the 0-11 Browns looming, they’re talking trash? “When you lose, say nothing. When you win, say less.” – Paul Brown.

  18. I clicked the link to read the entire interview. Talk about putting words in Jenkins mouth. Way to go, Cleveland media, for trying to make WAY more out of this than should be. Take one sentence out of a (minimum) 8 question interview, and run with that.

Never mind the fact that Jenkins was very complimentary of Pryor’s skills and transition to receiver. That wouldn’t be any controversy, so why bother headlining that?!?

what team are you a fan of again? not sure why you bring up the Cowboys on a giants article, but, if you must, go and listen to the Cowboys’ players–they always pay respects to the other team (coaches and players) they have respect because they are coached to do so. giants are a clown show.

  20. Why does my team – a team that LOVES to play down to the level of the competition – always do this? Always.

    Painful.

This game will be close late in the 4th. Just watch.

    ugh.

  21. At this point, I’m just impressed as heck with what TP has done and am wishing him the best for the remainder of the season. Remember, it’s a contract year… this has been one of the ultimate “prove it!” contract years andhes done just that. Now I hope he avoids serious injury in these last games and signs a nice fat contract in the offseason.

Puts Tebow in perspective. I have to think there was a place for Tebow in the NFL, if he’d been willing to reinvent his body and learn a new position.

    NY Giants, PC?
How is allowing a multi-time Domestic Abuse offender continue to play/draw a gaudy NFL salary a PC play?

Top 5 most arrogant team owners in the league, easy.
Also, they reside at the very top of Fraudger’s Xmas card list.

  23. OK… The Browns have Mccoy at QB… And they are facing a hungry Dline that needs to pad their stats… And If Jennings wants to make it to the Pro Bowl he needs to show up against Pryor… It will be a fun matchup

Dude, really? if ya going back 20yrs…then might as well tell ya we have 5 SB rings…Giants? not so many. WOW.

  25. Wonder if he ever wishes he listened to Pete Carroll and tried WR in Seattle…you know…where those stats would matter and he could play in the playoffs.

    Classic!

  27. For all of you idiots who just read headlines, here’s the rest of what Jenkins said. Just goes to show how dumb you people are that youll believe anything thats printed:

Here is the rest of what Jenkins said about Pryor (6-4, 223), who has six inches on Jenkins (5-10, 198):

Q: What do you think of Terrelle Pryor’s transition to wide receiver?
A: He has been pretty good, man. He’s a big guy. He is tall, he is fast, it looks like his transition is going good.

Q: How do you think you match up with him?
A: Man, like I said, that is for you all to decide and then I’ll see you all on Tuesday.

Q: Where do you think Terrelle fits in with some of the other receivers you have seen?
A: He’s up there. He’s tall, like I said, he is fast, he is physical. He is the prototype, but we have to see what is going on.

Q: Is it surprising that he has been able to do this so quickly?
A: No, he’s an athlete. When you have good athletes like that, they’re able to do a lot of things and he was able to transfer to receiver.

Q: Is there any receiver you can compare Terrelle to?
A: Receiver? I don’t really like to compare guys. I just see Terrelle as being Terrelle.

    ______________

The subject was hubris as in excessive pride or self-confidence. And you just demonstrated it. Not one of those rings was won in the last 20 years but Boys fans continue to spout off like they were all won in the last 5. So yeah, you want to be taken seriously maybe at least get to the NFCCG every decade or so. Other than that it’s just more noise from the kiddie table about what your Daddy and Grandpa did. You are right about one thing though, Daddy and Grampy’s teams do have one more SB win than the Giants. The Giants have won 4. One in each of the last 4 decades representing, you know, ongoing relevance.
