Victor Cruz peeved by lack of throws his way

After the Giants beat the Browns in Week 12, quarterback Eli Manning apologized to wide receiver Sterling Shepard for not targeting him with any passes.

Shepard was back in the mix against the Steelers, but another wideout found himself shorter on activity than he would have liked. Victor Cruz drew the short end of the stick this time around as he drew no throws while playing on fewer snaps than Roger Lewis.

“I’m going to talk to somebody. Somebody’s got to give me an answer as to why,” Cruz said, via the New York Daily News. “Absolutely, there’s always opportunities for everybody to get the ball out there and I didn’t get those today.”

Quarterback Eli Manning pointed to “what defenses are doing” as a reason for Cruz’s shutout. It’s the second time that Cruz has gone untargeted in a game this season and his drop in playing time signals the greater shift in circumstances for a wideout who hasn’t returned to his former role after missing most of two seasons following a torn patellar tendon in his knee.

  1. I am too! I mean the offense is clearly struggling and it looks like Eli is not even trying to distribute the ball evenly which will make for a more balanced attack. Yesterday it seemed like an anomaly for Eli to go to anyone but Beckham. There is no reason for this to be happening when they have guys like Cruz and Sheppard.
Pretty fed up, get it together Eli.

  2. Calm down, you are not back where you were yet, and may never get there. You are blessed to be back at all so don’t get your panties in a bunch and be a team player. The team supported you for 2 years while you were rehabbing; time for you to be a man and pay back, even if it means some games where you are a decoy only.

  3. Eli can go out of way to make OBJ feel special by forcing throws to him when he isn’t open. Or telling a rookie he’s sorry for not throwing to him…but, he tells Cruz it’s the way the defenses are playing you ( which really means you’re my number 4 or 5 option) ..With our horrible so called WRs in Philly..we would love to see your Salsa in Eagle Green Victor

  4. Among the reasons this Giants fan was hoping to get Cruz back even if he was a step slower was his chemistry with Eli.
Guess it didn’t occur to me that most of that was on display pre McAdoo. How does a guy go from OC of a team with a highly productive offense last season to the HC of a team with a dysfunctional one this season?

  5. Giants offensive line has been brutal this year. Sure, Eli hasn’t been sacked much – but that’s because he is dumping the ball first.

But, you do tend to drop a lot of balls, and getting open is usually one way to get passes thrown to you

No we wouldn’t! Hasn’t been healthy enough to play 3 consecutive games in 2 years. Philly is bad but assing Cruz and DeSean Jackson would be great…in 2012.

  7. O’Dell is complaining about the refs, Cruz about the lack of passes thrown his way. Would either player be flapping their gums if they would have won? Of course not.

I don’t think any other team cries nearly as much when they lose as the Giants. They were beaten fair and square by Pittsburgh.

The Giants are more content complaining about all the outside reasons they lost instead if taking a look at themselves.

  8. Victor go talk to your teammate Beckham, that’s the one who is causing this imbalance on offense. Odell would rather look good and lose than look bad and win. As long as he gets his targets and gets to show off he couldn’t care less about the team. Factor in Eli’s beta male personality and a head coach who is in way over his head and you got a recipe for implosion.

It’s pretty crazy that they are 8-4, the defense, soft schedule and lack of quality teams this season has masked the mediocrity of this team. The offense, especially the line play has been brutal.

  9. First of all, this should be kept out of the press. If he was a guy who cared about his team, rather then himself, he would have kept it “in house”. I think it is ridiculous for a player to go to the press and criticize his coach, his quarterback, his team and he should be talked to by the leaders of his team.

Second, he is obviously not getting open like he should. Eli Manning is an excellent quarterback and he goes through his progressions and, if Cruz is not open when he looks his way, he will throw it to him. One of the big problems that Eli has had in the past is trying to force balls in to a “favorite” receiver and that has cost them games.

Lastly, he needs to be more concerned about WINS rather than how many times he is targeted. THAT is what it is all about and he needs to quit being so selfish. He is not the number one receiver on this team anymore. There may be a couple of guys who are YOUNGER and better than him. Period!

  10. A lot of crying by the two look at poor me guys in Giant land, after getting beat in the Burg.

  11. The Giants have crummy play calling by McAdoo.
The Patriots lack the star quality of the receivers of the Giants but score TD’s, play exciting games AND WIN .
The OL line stinks as well as they are lucky to be 8 & 4

    “Soft schedule.”

    The SAME teams Dallas plays.

    That’s rich.

So, are you agreeing that it is a “soft schedule” and that’s why the Cowboys are 10-1??

  13. If you have Cruz in fantasy, you should cut him now. His snap count is down, Roger Lewis is getting equal snaps. Judging from what I am seeing he is not getting any separation, no doubt thats what the coaches are seeing too. He was covered in the entire game by the steelers, honestly Dwayne Harris should be starting. He has lost a step, I will be surprised if Cruz will be resigned. We all know he is getting cut.
