Colin Kaepernick will start for 49ers in Week 14

There are plenty of games on the Week 14 schedule that will help decide who makes the playoffs and which teams will match up once the postseason gets underway.

There are also games that will matter only to those involved and the draft prospects who will be going at the top of the first round. The Jets-49ers clash in Santa Clara falls into that category and we now know that only one of those two teams will be changing their starting quarterback from Week 13.

49ers coach Chip Kelly wasn’t ready to name a starter after benching Colin Kaepernick in favor of Blaine Gabbert during last Sunday’s loss to the Bears, but offensive coordinator Curtis Modkins spilled the beans on Tuesday. Modkins met with the media in Kelly’s place as the head coach is away from the team following the death of his father and announced that Kaepernick will make another start.

Kaepernick completed 1-of-5 passes for four yards while being sacked five times against the Bears on a snowy day in Chicago. It will be Kaepernick’s eighth start and the four starts before the Bears debacle featured far better performances than he turned in during Week 13.

The Jets will be going with a new starter for the game. Bryce Petty, who relieved Ryan Fitzpatrick in Monday night’s blowout loss, has been installed as the starter for the rest of the season for the 3-9 Jets.

  1. 49ers-Jets…do the TV ratings scales go low enough to measure this market share? Or do they just bottom out at zero?

  2. As a close friend of the organization it is a sad time for this team but Watson from Clemson will look good on this squad a few years from now.

  3. The 49ers QBs combined for 6 (!!) passing yards last week after subtracting sack yardage. Snow or not, that’s horrible!

  4. Wow! Flex this game. This is a “can’t miss” game. Oh boy, I can hardly wait to see two backup QBs leading those prolific offenses against those stellar defenses. This is truly “must see TV”.

    Not!

  5. He sold his place in Cali and got a place in NY. He’s done with the Niners after this year. His chick is from NY, and the media there will love Kaep. So long, dude, you had potential a few years ago, but you let chicks and politics ruin you.

    Jets vs niners?
    Final score 23-7.
Total in attendance for the game 2200.

Even if you’re a new Seattle fan, (which you are), I laughed at your comment. Sad but true.

  7. looks like the 49ers just got off the schnide

idk how the jets beat the ravens, bills, & browns

    they are putrid

  8. So…who picks up Kaep in FA after the season? Cleveland? Jacksonville? It would have to be a team that sucks, although in the current Goddell era NFL, that could be any of a number of teams.

The Niners just lost to the Bears 3rd stringers. We didn’t get off anything. The Niners suck ass this year.

  10. 9ers averaging 23 points per game under Gabbert with their lone win of the season. Average point differential through first 5 games was -6. They average 18 points per game under Kaepernick with point differential of -15, against lesser competition. No logic in the move.

If nothing else Gabbert is intelligible in the post game press conference. Kaepernick looks and sounds like he’s answering questions after being locked in solitary confinement for the past 11 years.

  11. And for the 12th time this year I will be rooting against the 49ers despite having previously been a fan for 35 years. I will not support ANYTHING related to this franchise as long as that lowlife Fidel Kaepernick is on the roster. Go Jets!

  12. Might as well play Ponder. See if he has improved his happy nervous feet any in the last couple years. Maybe he can run a Chip Kelly offense better than he past ones… probably not, but hey, worth a look.

Then again, if you are trying to lose than playing a loser like Kaepernick is a great choice as well.

  13. jackofnotrades: You are aware Santa Clara just lost to the previously 2 win Bears right? If anything its the Jets who get off the schnide.
outlaw53: NOBODY picks up Fidel Krapperstink in free agency. He’s a terrible player as well as a toxic locker room cancer

Dude. Your a Bills fan which means you probably live in WNY like me. We already get all the Giants and Jets games…….same media market…..

Nothing to do with the coaching staff that played to his strengths being run out of town by the Front Office then?

  16. Starting CK is a win-win for SF.
If SF loses they are one step closer to a new QB from the 2017 draft.
If SF wins the NJ Jets will be more likely to trade for CK.

  17. maxkingpin: LOL and you actually think the Jets would have any interest in acquiring a toxic locker room cancer like Kaepernick? Especially playing in NY? No way in hell the Jets even entertain the idea of bring on this lowlife

  18. Let’s see how Colon does now that he wants to become a free agent. Chances are his performance in these last four games will convince many teams who are considering signing him. It will convince them he sucks and they’d rather pursue Jay Cutler or some other retread.

  19. My Prediction is 24 to 14.

24 stadium vendor’s to 14 fans in the seats.

If you’re going to bet,bet the under.

They won’t have to trade for him, he voided his contract and will become a free agent after this year.

Of course it did but that was 3 years ago. You can’t keep blaming what happened 3 years ago for this year’s fiasco. Their o-line is decent, it’s given Kaep more than enough protection. Kaep lost weight, doesn’t go through progressions, looks down receivers, is inaccurate, he’s let his off the field life interfere with his on the field activity. It’s just simple facts, man. I’m a big Kaep fan, but the writing is on the wall. Of course I want him to be the old Kaep that shredded defenses, but that ship has set sail. Maybe a fresh start somewhere else could revive him, but he’s got a lot of work to do.

  22. Has anyone taken a close look at the barn built in Clara?? It has more seats in suites that any other dump out there. How does that create a home field advantage. I can’t think of one thing this team has done right the past 3 years…and it started by moving into a glass encased corporate wifi building 50 miles from their supposed team name.

  23. The more lousy games he plays, the safer it is to cut him without being politically incorrect

  24. Remember how the 49ers ran off Jim Harbaugh to keep Trent Baalke…that was a great decision..

  25. The irresistible force vs the immovable object. The offense that can not score vs the defense that can stop nobody! Who will win this clash of the kittens.

  26. Although I do not agree or like the way he chose to honor our flag, I do wish he gets his football life back on track. Kid was pretty dam good a few years ago. Didn’t like the kissy kissy arm stuff but he was a baller we all have to admit that.

Unclebluck, I was being sarcastic. Not going to watch that game, I am thinking about watching bowling or maybe tuning in a channel that is off-air and looking at the pretty colored bars for 3 hours. BTW, East Aurora.

  28. Colon Krappernick will be winless, spineless, gutless, brain-less, and less than zero.

If the San Fran football team wants him back next year, they should ask for $12 million back from him.

  29. Whoever he decides to start will have their best game of the season….QB feast on the Jets secondary, every QB but 2 had his best game against the Jets…

  30. As much as I disagree with Krap’s actions this season, I will let all in on a little tidbit. Since he became the starter, he has put up far more fantasy points than good ole Eli, until this last game….lol

  31. The biggest question is why would you start Kraperneck? He is terrible!! Oh you want the top pick in the draft!! At least Gabbert won a game!!

  32. ejmat3 says:
Kaepernick is a better QB than Stafford and it’s not even close.
    ————————————
How hard did you bust out laughing after you typed that?

  33. I’m sure everyone in the country will breathe easier now.
Who starts for SF doesn’t matter. Kaepernick doesn’t matter.
As he’ll find out in free agency.

  34. “As much as I disagree with Krap’s actions this season, I will let all in on a little tidbit. Since he became the starter, he has put up far more fantasy points than good ole Eli, until this last game….lol”
    _________

    If only fantasy football mattered…
It’s football for people that don’t actually understand football. Kinda like a video game.

  35. Kap is a better QB than Gabbert, but he may want to leave the team after the season. The Niners may want to think about drafting a QB in the first round.
