Jets closing in on top five pick in 2017 NFL Draft, which is nice

If you’re a Jets fan looking for a silver lining this morning, well, there isn’t really one. Your team stinks.

But as we’d rather light a candle than curse your darkness, we can point out that they are moving closer to securing a top-five spot in the 2017 NFL Draft order thanks to last night’s loss and the Bears’ epic win over the 49ers.

If the season ended today, the 0-12 Browns (of course) would still pick first, followed by the 1-11 49ers and the 2-10 Jaguars. The 3-9 Jets and Bears are deadlocked (no, really, that’s a perfect word) at 3-9, and have the same strength of schedule number at the moment so they’d flip for the fourth and fifth picks.

They’d be followed by the Titans (enjoying that Rams pick), the Panthers, Bengals, Saints, and Chargers in the top 10.

Also, if the season ended today, people would say “Why on Tuesday?”

  1. ..
    Looking ahead :

    Cleveland – QB issues
    San Francisco – QB issues
    Jacksonville – QB issues
    Chicago – QB issues
New York Jets – QB issues

Is there enough top flight QBs to go around?

  2. I’m going to have to start watching the draft worshippers early this year. Assuming we stay at 7, I hope there is a top-flight left tackle available there. Then another high-upside O-lineman at pick #39. (Go get your hog mollies, Gettleman!) Get a world-class kicker in round 6 and we’re back to being contenders again.

  3. The Jets HC (Todd Bowles) reports to the owner, not the GM.
Thus he has no incentive to think long term and tank by starting Bryce Petty. He will try and win meaningless games that will harm the Jets draft position.
The owner needs to tell him to sit Ryan FitzTragic and play Bryce Petty.

Cincy has a lot of problems but their QB is definitely not one of them.

  6. Rivers to the Jets for two first rounders.

Let’s face it, Chargers need to blow it all up. They’ve been teetering on middle of the pack and total need for a rebuild for too long. Never gonna happen, but Jets would instantly be a super bowl contender. And Rivers would have a better chance winning a ring in there than on the Chargers in the next five years.
