One of the first names to emerge in connection with the Rams’ head-coaching vacancy (other than Jim Harbaugh) was Pete Carroll.
Speaking to L.A. reporters on Tuesday in advance of Thursday night’s game against the Rams, Carroll was asked about a report linking him to the Rams job.
“I have no comment about that,” Carroll said.
Asked next whether he’d completely rule out coaching the Rams, Carroll said, “Yes.”
It’s no surprise. Carroll signed an extension late in the offseason; he otherwise would have been a free agent when the season concludes, with the ability to go anywhere he wants. And he’s smart enough to know that the L.A. job had a chance of opening up.
So if he wanted to possibly leave for the Rams or anywhere else, he shouldn’t have signed a new contract.
While the Rams could contact the Seahawks in an effort to essentially trade for Carroll, it’s unlikely that Seattle owner Paul Allen would agree to surrender his head coach to a division rival -- unless L.A. owner Stan Kroenke made Allen an offer he can’t refuse.
