When Vikings running back Adrian Peterson initially discussed his hopes for returning to the field this season, he pointed to the team’s Week 16 game against the Packers as his target date.

That’s apparently been moved up a week. Peterson made an appearance on Dash Radio with DJ Skee on Friday afternoon and broke the news that he’ll be playing against the Colts this Sunday.
“I’m gonna go ahead and go this week,” Peterson said. “I’m getting back out there and looking forward to joining my team as we continue on this journey to make the playoffs.”

Peterson said that he spoke with coach Mike Zimmer and the team’s training staff about playing against Indianapolis after he felt good in his return to practice this week. The Vikings will need to make a move by Saturday afternoon in order to add Peterson to the roster in time to play this weekend.

Peterson last played in Week Two when he tore his meniscus and was designated to return from injured reserve this week.
