Panthers quarterback Cam Newton appeared to be in pain, specifically in his right arm or shoulder, after taking a big hit from Ryan Kerrigan of the Redskins on the Panthers’ second possession Monday night.
The Panthers took a timeout after the play, and Newton appeared to be in some pain but only talked with members of the team’s medical staff briefly.
ESPN’s broadcast then showed some pregame footage of Newton favoring the shoulder while warming up. ESPN sideline reporter Lisa Salters said Panthers coach Ron Rivera told her before the game that he wasn’t aware of any issue.
After the drive, cameras showed Newton taking a warmup throw on the sideline but he did not appear to be surrounded by trainers. Newton remained in the game at the start of the Panthers’ third possession.
About nine minutes in Monday night, the Panthers and Redskins are tied, 3-3.
