Matt Slauson: Some Chargers have “false enthusiasm” about move

The Chargers are moving to Los Angeles, whether the players or anyone else like it or not. Chargers guard Matt Slauson believes that some of his teammates don’t like it — but that they’re acting like they do.

“As players, we are kind of caught between a rock and a hard place, because, of course, we aren’t looking forward to the move but we also kind of have to be,” Slauson told Hardwick & Richards on XTRA 1360 in San Diego. “We have to be looking forward to it because if we’re going up there with the wrong attitude, we won’t have a shot. I think as players we kind of have to give a little false enthusiasm there to make something happen. Because guys like Philip [Rivers], and myself, and [Antonio] Gates, and [Danny] Woodhead, we’re running out of time and we have to win now.”

False or not, it’s good that the players have enthusiasm. Plenty of fans and media in the L.A. seem to have no enthusiasm of any kind.

  1. LA fans could care less.

    San Diego Fans are angry.

The Players dont want to go.

The owners arent happy about the move.

Who wins here? Is it serious just Spanos’s ego?

  2. They think they have false enthusiasm now…just wait until Rivers gets traded to the Broncos.

  3. Pretending you like something that you don’t? Sounds like the players will fit in perfectly in LA

We here in LA also have false enthusiasm. We didn’t want the Chargers either.

  5. I look forward to watching this pan out.
    LA County: 10 million people
    Orange County: 3 million people
    Vs.
San Diego County: 3 million people with 55 years of loyalty

Will 4X the amount of people trump 55 years of loyalty?

  6. Sad, but true. The Chargers will have “0” “home games next year or the year after. It will take a monumental task to make it to the play-offs next year. Spanos’ move is to set the team up for sale. Nothing else. He is and the family is the worst owners in professional football. Winning starts at the top. “You are what your record says you are.”

In all fairness, LA County has exactly 3.13 times the population of SD County (not 4x). OC also has less people than SD County, most of which actually lean towards Chargers fandom.

  8. If you can play, it shouldn’t matter where your team is. Shut up and play.

If you can’t play and you want to use the move as an excuse, get out of the business.

you dont speak for all the fans, not by a long shot!
this anti Chargers media campaign is exactly just that, a media campaign. Bolts OWN LA – they will be the team of choice –
you will dispute that, and thats fine, but just remember in the next year or so, when the Bolts have a home playoff game that you are dying to go to – remember that you were one of the people that shuned them and underestimated them.
you were wrong. dont forget it.

broncos only winning formula – try to get the WWNFL behind them so they can win again.
guess what – Rivers would rather lose with the Chargers than be a cheating donkey!

  11. The Rams have been out of LA for 20 years and with 1 crappy year back, do you really think there is a fan base there under 60 years old?
Chargers ruled Southern California for a long time, especially the Tomlinson years. LA or SD, Southern Califorina all the way up to Bakersfield is Chargers owned.

  12. Half empty stadium won’t be good…their current new home only seats 30,000!

Greed. I don’t think I could support that team, if it were my team.
