Arthur Blank bothered by Trump’s Holocaust Rememberance declaration

Falcons receiver Mohamed Sanu didn’t want to get into religion or politics the week of the Super Bowl, but his boss didn’t mind wading into the fray.

Sanu, a Muslim, didn’t want to discuss president Donald Trump’s executive order which suspended entry of people from seven Muslim countries.

But Falcons owner Arthur Blank, who is Jewish, had other problems with the President. Blank told Bob Glauber of Newsday that he was troubled by a statement from Trump on Holocaust Remembrance Day last Friday which did not specifically mention the six million Jews who were killed during World War II.

“Obviously, it’s a tragic time in the history of the world, not only for Jewish individuals but for non-Jews as well,” Blank said. “And so I think it always deserves recognition, it always deserves to remind us of certain characteristics that can take place and to make sure they’re not seen in any form or fashion in any of our democracies or institutions around the world.”

But even beyond that particular moment, the growing divide in our country represents a disturbing trend in his view.

“I’m troubled by anything directionally in our country that separates people,” Blank said. “America started without any of us, other than Native American Indians. This country was built on inclusion and diversity, on celebration of those differences, supporting those differences, and everybody being the very best they can be in their own way. I’m opposed to anything that takes away from that.

“That’s what makes America great, is the melting pot of what makes this country great and the abilities and capacities and commitments to all those people that came from around the world to settle here because they saw a dream and a vision.”

While it was hardly impassioned rhetoric, Blank’s status as an owner rather than an employee — and a guy who doesn’t have to play a game Sunday — gives him the latitude to speak his mind a bit more freely.

  1. What a POS hypocrite. He’s anti Nazi but he took how many millions from Mercedes Benz for the naming rights of the new stadium?

Mercedes Benz and Volkswagen where the official vehicles of the NAZI party. Ford was right there too from our shores rooting for our enemy to succeed. But their money is green enough for you isn’t it?

  2. 109 people out of 325,000 were detained. Stop the madness. I assume he said nothing when Obama banned citizens from Iraq for six months.

  3. The ideals of diversity and inclusion, along with the fact we need to improve the screening of potential immigrants entering the country aren’t mutually exclusive concepts.

Had we done a better job screening, some of the deaths and crime we’ve suffered could have been averted.

I support a temporary ban on all foreign countries until vetting procedures are upgraded.

  4. Why don’t leftists just come out and admit they want open borders and that anybody from any country should be able to come to the US without even being screened? This is what they obviously want. If “celebrating diversity” means invitinginto our country potential terrorists from places where war is going on you can take your diversity and stick it right up your rear

  5. I’m bothered by people who yell “Allah Akbar” before they take out a bunch of innocent people. I’m also bothered by the elite, who claim they care but wouldn’t personally house a refugee if their life depended on it.

  6. Traitor Trump is a stain upon the United States. The sooner he is removed from office, the sooner we can begin rebuilding our national reputation around the world. Right now it’s in the toilet, and it’ll remain there until the people of this nation take action to get rid of the “truculent pus cluster”(to quote Keith Olbermann) that currently occupies the White House.

  7. Yeah, it’s terribly wrong to suspend immigration from countries Obama’s own State Dept had labeled as ‘supporting terrorism’, etc… until we can put procedures in place to make sure no bad guys get through… awful idea… now let’s all find a safe area where we can do a nice big group hug and let out the tears…

  8. The left wing agenda here is right off the hook and if another football site opens that isn’t falling over to the left, you guys will be in big trouble.

  9. You should just let anybody in without screening because that worked out great for Germany and many other European countries. Use your heads people. Vetting is not a bad thing.

  10. Trump “All Lives Matter”ed the Holocaust, and it didn’t sit well with Blank – as it shouldn’t sit well with any decent person.

But I’m just curious, before it became personal to him, what was Blank’s position was before this on BLM vs ALM?

  11. Trump has trashed our Democracy within a week. They may as well haul away the Statue of Liberty because our country stands for nothing anymore but hate and fear thanks to the Republicans

There were hired protesters this weekend holding signs reading no “borders, no nations”. This is what the leftists believe in.

    ====================================

What Trump did is what Hillary publicly supported in 2013, Chuck Schumer supported in 2015 and what Obama actually did.

  14. Lolololol obumble blocked cubans and iraqis, clinton wanted a wall. Biden didnt want to let vietnamese in. My god people should read up on there so called chosen heroes before they spout there mouth off. Ooo and cartee banned iranians

  15. Athur Blank wasn’t bothered by Trump’s racism and hate-speech before, when he supported him and donated to his campaign. Arthur Blank wasn’t bothered by Trump and the Republican political agenda of destroying health care for millions, voter suppression, destruction of civil rights, worker’s rights, women’s rights, abortion rights, pollution laws, etc.

It’s only now when it’s become utterly toxic to be publicly attached to Trump that Blank comes out with a statement against his racism and extremism. A true profile in courage.

Don’t be fooled, he’s still a ruthless billionaire who’s still promoting the entire agenda – as long as it’s kept on the down-low and the blame isn’t publicly laid on him.

You quoted Keith Olbermann? THAT Keith Olbermann? You should broaden your horizons.

  17. Up until Obama took office we had slowly but surely continued to melt together. So called “progressives” are the ones that have hammered that wedge deeper and deeper yet again for nothing more than political gain. The real problem now is to not only remove those wedges but people coming here need to ASSIMILATE as AMERICANS. American doesn’t mean any particular race, color, etc. You should NOT enter this country wanting to be anything other than American. Not African-American, Mexican-American, etc. Those coming here for nothing other than a job need to stay in their OWN country and make IT better. It’s ridiculous to allow people to come here just to work. We need people that want to be American. If you’re Muslim that’s fine, as long as you want to assimilate. Coming here but hating American’s and/or America’s base religion has got to be stopped.

  18. fordmandalay: Securing our borders and screening migrants from terror states is totally racist hate speech. lol. Guess what snowflake? Nobody is buying your song and dance anymore. Obama did more to destroy healthcare in this country than any President ever and the rest of your left wing diatribe of grievances are laughable.
Considering the violent attacks against conservatives, street rioting and calls for open borders from the lunatic left its pretty clear who the extremists are these days.
go move to the multicultural cesspool that is Europe these days

  19. Trump chooses to halt travel from the seven countries that Obama listed as terror countries, and subsequently dropped over 26,000 bombs in 2016.

One of the two is much worse than the other.

So your thinking since it’s only a small proportion of the population then it’s okay?

  21. If Trump was/is serious about putting a hold on terrorists supported countries from instantly entering the US, then why isn’t Saudi Arabia or Egypt on the list. When it’s known that most of the attackers on 9/11 was Saudis, but I guess Trump doesn’t want to ruin his business relationship with Saudi Arabia

  22. If you’re going to do it shouldn’t Saudi Arabia be on the top of the list. Oh wait, Trump just signed a deal with them.
Btw, immigrants coming into this country are thoroughly vetted already. Why are people acting like it’s something that has to be done.

  23. The obama administration and dept of homeland security identified these 7 countries as the most dangerous countries for terrorism in january 2016. Thats why they are the ones with the TEMPORARY travel ban.

Immigrants ARE NOT vetted well enough in this country. Previous to this executive order getting a visa and getting into this country was a complete joke and very little was done about people with expired visas living here.

Do some research before whining about what trump is or is not doing before posting nonsense. Or just keep your uninformed opinions to yourself

Yeah, and America dropped a couple nukes on Japan. The Japanese are no more hypocritical than Mr. Blank is. The war was disgusting and so many horrifying things happened. After 70+ years the folks runnig these companies were not there so you can’t lay it on them. But I’d sure as hell want to never forget those 6 million human beings that were slaughtered because of their religion and I’d like to make sure nothing so horrific happens again.
