49ers officially name six members of Kyle Shanahan’s staff

The 49ers on Friday officially announced six members of new head coach Kyle Shanahan’s first staff.

Jon Embree will be assistant head coach and tight ends coach. His departure from Tampa Bay to join Shanahan had been previously reported.

Three other offensive assistants were also officially named. Rich Scangarello will be quarterbacks coach, Bobby Turner will be the running backs coach and T.C. McCartney was named offensive assistant.

Ray Wright was named head strength and conditioning coach, and Nick Kray was named administrative assistant to the head coach. Wright previously held the same job in Washington and worked on the same staff as Shanahan in both Washington and Houston.

Embree has previous NFL coaching experience with the Bucs, Chiefs and Browns. He played three seasons an NFL tight end in the late 1980s.

Scangarello was an offensive quality control coach under Shanahan with the Falcons in 2015 and has otherwise recently coached in the college ranks. Turner also comes from the Falcons over the last two seasons and previously worked under Shanahan’s father, Mike, with the Broncos. He’s been coaching in the NFL since 1995.

  1. I don’t have a pony in this race, I think it might end poorly. Typically I’m wrong in this 50/50 scenario’s though so who knows.

At least my Bears did poorly enough to get a high pick. Go team!

  2. Hahaha the NBA abandoned Seattle because it is a lame town full of chest puffing bandwagoners and to add insult to injury they’d rather be in Sacramento.

Do you think it’s all the years of meth that has them confused about team name versus stadium location?

  3. I wish they had hired Dr. Heimlich for 4th quarter play calling while clock winding down with an 8 point lead.

  4. I am goin to give my honest opinion. I am not a pro or anylist but i have been a fan of the NFL for over 30 years. Kyle got this job because of his father’s name. He is not a good offensive coordinator..and i dont have much faith in his HC abilities. His father only looked good because of John Elway, & was barely average after that, and Im a fan of Denver for over 30 yrs. This is going to end badly guaranteed. Im still shocked over this whole thing!

  5. Not even being a homer but just saying

Everyone wants to rip Shanahan but if the pass plays he calls late work. He looks like a genius. If he runs 3straight plays and kicker misses, people think he took foot off the gas and went soft.

The defense gave up the huge lead and the late TD/ 2pnt conversion. Is that his fault? Or that Mathews held when they got back in FG range?

For god sakes. Everyone has the answers after the fact.

  6. Circus was in town two weeks ago for one last time before closing down. I could swear I saw at least 20 Goodells get out of that little car.
