Saints sign Manti Te’o

Monday brought a report that the Saints were close to a deal with free agent linebacker Manti Te’o and it wasn’t a figment of anyone’s imagination.

Mike Triplett of ESPN.com reports that the Saints have signed Te’o to a two-year deal.

Te’o was a 2013 second-round pick of the Chargers and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team. He missed 13 games with a torn Achilles last season, but started 34-of-38 games for the Chargers when he was healthy enough to be in the lineup.

Te’o played inside for the Chargers, which creates some uncertainty about how he’ll be used in New Orleans. The Saints have also signed former Panthers middle linebacker A.J. Klein and also have Craig Robertson, Stephone Anthony, Dannell Ellerbe and Hau’oli Kikaha on the roster.

  1. Welcome aboard Manti!
BTW – The Des Allemands, LA Catfish Festival is June 23rd, 24th & 25th. Have fun….

  2. you guys with your stupid fake girlfriend jokes – seriously – get a life!

Good luck Teo – maybe you can stay healthy eating gumbo.

  3. So long as he comes cheap and he’s ready to make a name for himself – I have no problem adding depth.

  4. Any time the Carson City Chargers make some news…like their WOW La-La-Land marathon..they’re forcing it. Anything to get some sort publicity to make people feel how good things are going in Carson. It’s pathetic! They have no fan base and won’t have one for years to come. Whose gonna pay $5,000 to $7,000 for two decent season tickets in Carson soccer field when there are multiple options for the entertainment dollar in La-La-Land? Spanos needs therapy. After Carson he’ll share Kroenke’s stadium in Englewood. Sadly, the players are less than enthusiastic with this awful move from San Diego. 60 years of tradition is down the drain. Shame on the NFL. Spanos doesn’t care because he wrongly believes he’ll sell the team for more money in La-La-Land to some unsuspecting billionaire who’ll be another bad owner and just wants a new toy.

  5. We get Butler and add at least 1 Defensive guy with one of those 2 1st round picks and our defense is going to improve big time.

We are going to get KiKaha back as well and a healthy Breaux and P.J. Hopefully Ellerbe can play the whole season.

  6. I watched this guy play at Notre Dame. He had the big name. Actually, a really cool name. The cameras always focused on him. He had those eyes. The commentators never stopped talking about him. But the guy didn’t do anything. He never made any plays. He won a lot of awards. I’m sure he has some meaningless stats that people can recite. They talked about him non-stop on draft day. You’d think this guy was Superman by what you heard with your ears. This guy is the poster boy for why you should always scout with your eyes and not your ears. The guy just didn’t make any plays. Now he’s on team number two, after flaming out with team number one. Go back and look at the tape.

  8. Some of you need to revert back to making normal, joke-free comments. Not because this is a serious topic or anything like that, just because many of you are criminally unfunny. Let’s get some creativity going, folks! Otherwise keep it to “I like/dislike this signing and here’s why” type comments.

To all of the infamous down-voters out there- Keep those mouse clicks handy because there’s a ton of garbage to thumb down right now. Including this post as I have no desire to get thumbs up, just making a quick observation.

I’m actually praying that the Saints send next year’s 1st rounder in the Butler package. We really need the 2 1st rounders THIS year. This is our last chance to do something amazing with Brees. Time to go all-in on THIS season!

  10. Tom Benson’s daughter really has him on the hook with this one!
    ========================
Weird because she’s not even allowed on the Saints premises anymore..

  11. Outside of Brees’s contract being so bloated, Loomis has been awful.

Brees signed a team friendly deal about a year ago @ 19M per/y. Try to keep up with the latest NFL news instead of just Patriot articles SMH

Why are the Saints so poorly run?

Outside of Brees’s contract being so bloated, Loomis has been awful.

Suppose congratulations are in order. You are half right, which is 4 times your average. Brees’ contracts to this point have never been onerous, it’s just something idiots have repeated so often it has become a type of fool’s gospel. Loomis on the other hand saddled N.O. with $80M in dead cap hits the past 2 years alone. That no one ever talks about it or how he keeps his job is a never ending source of amazement.

You gonna be okay, Teo? Your screen name doesn’t fool me.

  14. All pro teams have been taken by Colleges that promote certain athletes over others. The kickbacks that some college coaches receive from the pros is remarkable. College is nothing more than a meat market of young men and women being bought and sold during their last year of college. Some, even before they complete their freshman year. Most Real Talent never graduate from college due to the pressure of the Dollar. Most are left in College to develop their craft in four years. Ever wonder why most players on pro teams have never been heard of, before, their pro debut. It’s called farming. Out of an acre of sweet corn, only a bushel, or less, will be worth eating.
