16 different players have the best-selling jersey in at least one state

AP

You know Aaron Rodgers has the best-selling NFL jersey in Wisconsin and Marcus Mariota has it in Tennessee. But can you guess the best-selling jersey in all 50 states?

NFL Shop has released the best selling jerseys by state, and they provide an interesting glimpse into which players’ names fans are putting on their backs right now.

Tom Brady leads the way with 17 different states favoring his jersey. That includes every state in New England as well as some surprises, like Louisiana and Florida. That doesn’t mean Brady is the most popular player in all those states, just that he’s the player whose jerseys have sold the most so far this year. Drew Brees is surely more popular in Louisiana, but the fans who want his jersey already have it, while more fans are buying Brady jerseys after his latest Super Bowl MVP performance.

Up next is Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch, who has the best-selling jersey in 14 states. The whole West Coast is going for Lynch, as are some surprising states like Indiana and Iowa. Lynch’s return to the NFL has made his jersey a must-have for many fans.

Dak Prescott has the best-selling jersey in Texas and Oklahoma, with plenty of Cowboys fans, as well as Mississippi, where he played his college football. College football also led Clemson-turned-Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson to take the jersey lead in South Carolina and North Carolina. Also owning the jersey sales lead in two states are Von Miller and Odell Beckham.

Players whose jersey sales lead in one state are Rodgers, Mariota, Adrian Peterson, Matthew Stafford, Greg Olsen, James Conner, Carson Wentz, Julio Jones and Ezekiel Elliott.

And in the biggest surprise on the map, Vikings receiver Adam Thielen has the best-selling jersey in North Dakota.

  1. Thielen’s from northwest Minnesota (so right near North Dakota), and, well, it’s not like there’s a lot else close to North Dakota to root for. It’s pretty much him or Carson Wentz.

  2. I see you’re not going to talk about Kaepernicks jersey being at an all time low. I bought my son a Kaep jersey 2 years ago when he was 2. I gave it to Goodwill last season.

  3. Can you get an interview with the guy in North Dakota who bought the Adam Thielen jersey?

  4. The whole best selling Jersey thing may not be entirely accurate. It doesn’t account for the Chinese knock off jerseys that many of us buy for $20 or $30 instead of $100 at Dicks or NFL shop.

  5. Vikings receiver Adam Thielen has the best-selling jersey in North Dakota….

    In your face Carson!

  6. People have had the opportunity to buy Brady jerseys for 17 years. My guess is that many bought over a decade ago need to be replaced because they don’t fit anymore. Seriously, it was close to impossible to find his Super Bowl 51 replica jersey. They ran out. They could have sold thousands more.

  7. Oh and crapernick’s jerseys have been placed on clearance racks for 4.99 and not selling…coz you know, he isn’t on a team and all! haha

  8. Deflategate made Tom Brady an even bigger nationwide/international star than he already was. Sort of like Obi Wan “If you strike me down, I’ll become more powerful than you can ever imagine.”

On top of that was his second half Super Bowl performance. That’s the kind of stuff legends are made of. He doesn’t have to go around claiming to be the best QB. Those that watch the NFL will be more than willing to do that for him.

    King of the North.

  9. I don’t understand how Marshawn Lynch is the top selling jersey in Alaska, and I don’t understand how Greg Olsen is the top selling jersey in Ohio.

  10. I live in north Louisiana and it’s not hard to believe Brees isn’t the best selling jersey here. Even though I’m a Colts fan I can tell you north Louisiana has always been Cowboys territory. People didn’t really start caring too much for the Saints outside of the New Orleans area until they won the super bowl a few years ago. LSU is a much bigger deal here than the Saints, they own the entire state.

Why would a grown-ass man wear another man’s name on his back?

    ————-

You aren’t that guy that puts your own name on the back of your favorite teams jersey are you? That’s so much worse!

  12. Tom is the top selling jersey in Florida… HUH…

I guess that is the results of a state with 3 NFL teams and none of them being a constantly winning team or having any real outstanding players…

  13. Greg Olson having the top selling jersey in Ohio is the biggest upset since Redman and Method Man got into Harvard.

  14. When was Dak Prescott convicted, of even charged as a sex offender? Might want to check your “facts” on that one. He leads Texas in jersey sales and is a man of very high character. Maybe you made a mistake and thought someone else led in Texas, but your statement, “Leave it to Texas to have a sex offender lead in jersey sales” is completely wrong.

  15. “That doesn’t mean Brady is the most popular player in all those states, just that he’s the player whose jerseys have sold the most so far this year.”

But when Kaepernick’s jersey was selling, you told us that meant fans would love the team who signed him.

    Which is it?

What youre not taking into account is that EVERYONE in that area bought a Wentz jersey last year.

  17. Interesting. I would have bet my life savings that Wentz had the #1 jersey in ND.

Since you brought it up, what’s the quality level of those things, and can you trust the sellers to get them to you in a semi-timely fashion? I’ve always been curious, but uncertain about pulling the trigger.

  19. Agreed, Big_Mike392. Greg Olsen has no connection whatsoever to Ohio – how could he possibly be in the lead? Are there that few of jerseys sold in Ohio – a state with two teams?
I’m a Bengals fan, so I get why no Bengals rookie leads the state in sales (and don’t get me started on the lack of big FA signings to prompt sales), but how have Browns fans not jumped on the Myles Garrett jersey?! He was the freaking 1st overall pick!! Shows the optimism of Browns fans, I guess…

  20. I wonder if Brady being the top seller in Florida has to do with the snowbirds from Canada flocking to Florida in the wintertime. I know a friend of mine from Nova Scotia took his family to Orlando to visit Disney World and came back with a bunch of Brady stuff. He gave me a one dollar bill that has Brady’s portrait on it and he swears it is legal tender.

That doesn’t make sense. Surely their are more priests in the northeast.

  22. Evaen us S.C. rednecks can see that Brady is the Greatest player of All Time. Anyone who doesn’t hasn’t been watching him consistently play at a higher level than anyone else far longer than anyone ever has.

  23. I’m from WI. The people I know from Iowa are divided between Packers, Raiders, Vikings, and Broncos. Seems to be a good mix of fans there.

  24. This is a relevant story. Who has the worst selling jersey in every state?
    —-
I don’t think you could write that story because it is likely that more than one player has zero jerseys sold in multiple states.

  25. I don’t know any Viking fans who were sad to see Peterson go. I can’t imagine that many bought his jersey last year. Maybe they needed something to wipe off their cars after washing them.

  26. The North Dakota jersey choice isn’t really a surprise. The Vikings have better jerseys. The ugly blue green the Eagles have are some of the worst in the NFL. Go back to your green jerseys. Especially when Ray Rhodes said he did the color change to copy your rival.
