John Harbaugh promises Flacco will be back for Week One

Relax, Ravens fans. Well, at least a little.

Quarterback Joe Flacco, whose one-week absence due to a back problem is closing in on five, will return in two at the latest.

“He will be back for the Bengals game, I promise you that,” coach John Harbaugh said after Saturday’s preseason game against the Bills, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com.

Beyond that vow, details are scarce. Specifically as to when he’ll practice. Harbaugh said Flacco won’t practice Sunday.

“He’s on schedule, though, I’ll say that,” Harbaugh said.

So what’s the schedule? Will he practice this week?

“I’m not going to stand up here and answer that question every single day,” Harbaugh said. “He will be back for the Bengals game, I promise you that.”

Being back for the Bengals game is one thing. Being ready for the Bengals game is another. And that’s now the primary concern for Ravens fans who know that Flacco will play in two weeks. They just don’t know how well he’ll play.

  1. And I also promise, in the event that Joe can’t go, we won’t be bringing in Keapernick.
Because we ain’t changing our offense for the Castro loving, Pig socks wearing, no talent, huge distraction.

But the only reason the media keep asking it is because for the last 5 weeks both Flacco and the team have been proven to have given misleading comments as to the nature and seriousness of the injury. He did it lifting weights, it clearly is more than “a little stiffness”, he’s had scans and is clearly on a timeline indicative of slipped disc.

  3. They haven’t beaten the Bengals up in Cincinnati since 2011. With the state of the o-line, lack of a running game, and zero pre-season game snaps for Flacco, it’s hard to see the Ravens getting out of there with a W. Hopefully the team can bounce back the following week with a home win against the Browns. Lose that one too and it’s going to be an awfully long season. And I’m a Ravens fan.

  4. Don’t let Joe Flacco’s injury distract you from the fact that Jordan broke 2 tackles and stretches his arm from half court to score the winning dunk for the Tune Squad in the Ultimate Game!!!!!

Yah, only top notch citizens are allowed suit up for the ravens. They find that white suit yet, hypocrite?

  6. Joe knows the offense and most of his receivers.

It’s not like he hasn’t been in this situation before, yet demonstrating that he could get up on the learning curve quickly. As a rookie, he mostly held a clipboard during preseason, but wound up starting with almost no preparation or familiarity with the first team offense. He lead the Ravens to win after win, then took his 11-5 team all the way to the AFC Championship.

Joe knows the Bengals defense well. He’s a winner.

  7. The Ravens need Flacco because of his experience. Above average intelligence and a top 5 arm are his strengths after his experience. But what the Ravens most need from him are his skills as a game manager. He can be relied upon to carry out a game plan. The ravens won’t be counting on him to win the game, just not lose it. That means not turning over the ball and engineering a few drives that cross midfield so Tucker can go to work.
That’s because the Ravens know they have one of the best defenses in their history and possibly the best…which is a mouthful. This defense is so strnog and so deep at every level that it’s scary. The return of players from last years IR (esp. J.Smith, Kafusi, and Correa), the additions of FAs Jefferson and Carr and the drafting of Humphries, Williams, Bowser and Wormley has resulted in an incredibly deep, fast, tough, young and experienced defense. The pass rush should be ferocious with Bowser, Williams, Suggs and Judon able to register multi-sack games. The DL of Williams, Pierce and Urban looks like the best in the league. The secondary may also be the best in the NFL. Sneak peaks this preseason do not argue against this assessment.
Early in the season defenses have the edge as many offenses are trying to find their strengths and get everyone on the same page. Dalton is no superstar and will have considerable trouble with the Raven defense. IMO the Ravens defense punishes the Bengals offense and may actually pitch a shutout. Dalton turns the ball over under pressure and he may never have seen pressure like he will get from the Ravens in Week One. Knocking Dalton out of the game should be child’s play compared to the fleet=footed Tryod Taylor which Judon did last Saturday nite. IMO the Ravens will lead the league in sacks for the following reason….Judon 14, Suggs 10, Williams 9, Bowser 7, Urban 5 with the rest of the D chipping another 5-10.
    Ravens 23 Cincy 0.

  8. Man will somebody get hold of bbbwindows delusions? They have medication for your hallucinations. Not saying the Ravens won’t have a good d but you are acting like they are going to come into cincy, pitch a shutout and knock dalton out of the game all to compensate for flacco’s injury? Did you just start watching football? Have you seen what dalton and aj green have single ha deadly done to this Baltimore defense over the years? Not that dalton is an all pro but green has put up a hall of fame highlight reel against the raven defense. The lack of respect you seem have for a division opponent is laughable. I’m not saying the Ravens can’t win but given their recent injury history, and player retirements, they don’t seem to be firing on all cylinders going into the season. The defense can stop scoring but the offense has to score too.

  9. I also don’t have much confidence in the Ravens offense, this season, but the one glimpse of hope I do have…is that The Ravens are 6-3 with Joe in week 1 games. and they’re 2-1 vs. Cinci. That’s all I got.

  10. “I’m not going to stand up here and answer that question every single day,” Harbaugh said

I am a fan of him and the team. That said the team intentionally isn’t giving any information on Flacco to keep opponents guessing. As long as that is the plan, which I agree with, you have to be prepared to answer that question every day.
