Thomas Rawls may not play until he’s 100 percent

The Seahawks keep trying to will Thomas Rawls into becoming the team’s next Marshawn Lynch. And Rawls keeps being unable to get and stay on the field.

The man deemed to be the top option at tailback for 2017 has an ankle injury, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Rawls may not play until he’s truly 100 percent.

Rawls has been characterized as a game-time decision for Sunday’s opener at Green Bay, and there’s no indication Rawls didn’t travel with the team to Wisconsin. So he’s there and he’s available but maybe he won’t actually play until he is truly and completely healthy.

It’s one of the benefits of having a full complement of tailbacks on the roster. But if Rawls misses time in the regular season, there’s a chance one of the other guys will step up and steal the job for which Rawls has been groomed. Starting today, a return by Eddie Lacy to Lambeau Field gives him extra incentive to do what he can in order to seize the job.

  1. It is open competition. Rawls had a good rookie season but he has not been able to stay healthy since. He also had a better O line during his rookie season. may be he won’t return to the same form, and neither will his teammates be any good with a crummy O line.

  2. I’m one Packer fan who dreads seeing Eddie coming at our guys. I was at Lambeau in Jan ’14 for the 49er’s game when three times the crowd broke into this huge, “EDDIE! EDDIE!” chant. When he’s healthy, Eddie is hard to tackle.
Rawls has looked good in spurts but as pointed out can’t stay on the field.

  3. It looked like Seattle found a replacement for Lynch. Outside of his rookie season, Rawls hasn’t been able to shake the injuries.

The NFL has a long list of names for guys who look real solid, to potentially real good but, for whatever the reason,.they just can’t stay healthy.

A shame actually, to realise a dream and not being able to find out how good you can be.

  4. The ability to stay healthy is an often overlooked ingredient by the average fan. Yet it’s key to becoming great. Truly great players play. Rawls did look impressive when he first burst onto the scene. Lacy has shown burst in the past too, yet he ran behind a better line in GB.

Packers’ run D results in pedestrian stats by Seattle’s RBs in week 1.

my lowly packers have zero talent on defense.

Don’t feel too bad, I think the Patriots are either leading you or a close second.
