Raiders cornerback Sean Smith will be heading from the field to the courtroom once the regular season comes to an end.
After a hearing this week, a judge in Los Angeles County Superior Court ruled that there is enough evidence for Smith to stand trial on assault and battery charges stemming from a July 4 arrest in Pasadena. The judge heard from witnesses before making the ruling and Smith is set to be arraigned on January 3.
Smith faces felony charges of assault by means of force to produce great bodily injury and battery with serious bodily injury after allegedly beating up Christopher Woods, who was then Smith’s sister’s boyfriend. Woods suffered multiple facial fractures and other injuries in what a witness said, via the Los Angeles Times, was a “violent” scene.
Smith faces a maximum of seven years in prison if convicted of both charges.
