Tom Telesco: We’ll get kicking game fixed

The Chargers missed the playoffs by a small margin this season and the biggest reason why was their 0-4 start to the season.

One of the biggest reasons for that start was a pair of missed field goals at the end of their first two games. Younghoe Koo had a game-tying field goal blocked against Denver in the opener and missed a game-winner against Miami the next week to touch off a season that saw the Chargers run through four kickers while making 66.7 percent of their field goal tries.

General Manager Tom Telesco said the team went “with what you think is right” and vowed to improve his work on that front this year.

“We’ll get that fixed,” Telesco said to Alex Marvez of SiriusXM NFL Radio. “That was largely my fault. We just didn’t do a very good job managing that situation.”

Nick Rose ended the year as the Chargers kicker and was joined on the offseason roster by former Buccaneers second-round pick Roberto Aguayo, who was out of the league last season. Those options could change as the Chargers try to ensure that the results are different in the future.

  1. I remember the Lions went 0-16 and lost 8 games by one score or less. So many games were lost by one play that year even some bad calls had their effect. Wanna win in this league you better have a story for the NFL to make dollars$$$.

  2. Aguayo isn’t the Jeff Fisher of kicking. He hasn’t been around the league long enough to develop a resume to even deserve that “witty” comment. But kickers, coaches, and QBs do seem to just get recycled. That much is true.

It feels like San Diego’s special teams have been atrocious since I’ve been alive
It feels like LA’s special teams have been atrocious since I’ve been alive. I fixed that for you.

  4. “We’re going to fix that?” “Didn’t manage it well?” Telesco, you must be kidding! Your mis-management cost us a play-off birth! The whole organization is ‘mis-managed.’ What are the Chargers and the NFL going to do about getting any fans? The Rams have it sewed up. The Chargers are an after-thought in L-a-L-a-Land.

  5. Hey Spanos, take your team back to where it belongs in San Diego. We didn’t want you a year ago, and we STILL don’t want you here in LA.

Are you suggesting it was a league-wide conspiracy that had that Charger kick blocked in Denver?

  7. Josh Lambo is a great kicker under 50 yards and horrible anything over that

Say your 4th and 5 or you can set up for a 55 yard FG . Your kicker is 2-8 anything over 50 yards. 55 yards or more is out if the question. Early part of the game , no score

Next scenario imagine you need a 57 yarder for the win

    What would you do?

That is why the Chargers let him go.
