Baker Mayfield won’t be at the draft. Twenty-two other players will be.

The NFL has announced the list of players who will attend the festivities, which begin three weeks from tonight in Arlington, Texas. Here’s the full list: Jaire Alexander, CB, Louisville; Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming; Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State; Taven Bryan, DT, Florida; Bradley Chubb, DE, North Carolina State; Sam Darnold, QB, USC; Marcus Davenport, DE, UTSA; Tremaine Edmunds, LB, Virginia Tech; Rashaan Evans, LB, Alabama; Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Alabama; Shaquem Griffin, LB, Central Florida; Derrius Guice, RB, LSU; Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa; Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville; Derwin James, S, Florida State; Kolton Miller, OT, UCLA; Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA; Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia; Leighton Vander Esch, LB, Boise State; Vita Vea, DT, Washington; Denzel Ward, CB, Ohio State; Connor Williams, OT, Texas.

Four of the top quarterbacks will be there, along with running back Saquon Barkley and defensive end Bradley Chubb. Guard Quenton Nelson, regarded by many as a top-10 pick, doesn’t appear on the list.

Linebacker Shaquem Griffin, who wasn’t even invited (at first) to the Scouting Combine, will be attending the draft. It’s unclear, however, how long he’ll be waiting in the green room.

The first round unfolds on Thursday, with rounds two and three on Friday and the rest of the draft on Saturday.

  1. 22 players will attend the draft, and not one of them wants to be drafted by the lowly rebuilding Packers.

  2. I will admit I didn’t really get into the draft each year bc it just takes so long lol. But this year is really exciting esp w the QBs. A few of my football friends and I are already planning a party for it! This will be an exciting football season for sure.

  3. my boy darius lil guice the next LSU savage to take the league by storm. can you imagine if he lasted til the 20s and jacksonville pulled the trigger?
BUGA nation reunited in Duval county? yes we definitely gotta make that happen

  4. There is no benefit to any of these players for attending. If they’re drafted where expected or higher, the get nothing for being there.

But if they drop below their expected slot they get to have cameras shoved in their face potentially for hours while the media and fans thrive on their discomfort and embarrassment.

Its a no win – lose proposition.

  5. There’s a lot of benefit to these players attending. Biggest stage in their sport in April. Some of these kids never considered they would be on it. With few exceptions they are drafted where they are expected to be drafted, and what they get is that moment. That’s why they are invited to go to the draft.

  6. I don’t see the down side to going to the draft. Get a free trip, meet some people, etc. If you don’t get picked early, keep your composure and do a Thurman Thomas ( Hall of Fame running back who slipped to the 2nd Round ) Use it as motivation and make teams regret it.

  7. Baker Mayfield won’t be at the draft…because he will parading around his home town in his brand new Buffalo Bills jersey…

  8. What a dumb issue to take sides. I’m sure it is a thrill for some guys, and for others it may be bothersome or some kind of distraction. Whatever. If they want to be there, great. If not, who cares? I didn’t go to my college graduation but I don’t begrudge those that wanted to take part in that moment.

And for the fans of the teams that draft someone in attendance, it is probably a really nice moment for them to see the guy step up and put on the hat and all that. I don’t know, I just read the picks the following day.
