Jets set visit with free agent safety Kenny Vaccaro

The safety market has been relatively quiet this offseason, but Kenny Vaccaro is starting to generate some interest.

Vaccaro’s next scheduled visit is with the Jets, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. He just visited the Colts and has previously visited the Dolphins, so Vaccaro seems to be drawing interest.

Only seven of the players in our Free Agent Top 100 remain unsigned, and most of them are safeties. Vaccaro, the No. 27 player overall, is the highest-ranked unsigned player. Also unsigned are safeties Tre Boston, Eric Reid and Tyvon Branch.

Vaccaro is drawing enough interest that he could sign soon, which may help set the market for the position and get other safeties signed.

  1. Signing Vaccaro would give the Jets some interesting 3 safety looks on defense. I do not think he would start over Maye.

  2. Out of the names listed, Reid is by far the worst. But it’s all about the protests, right?

  3. “Only seven of the players in our Free Agent Top 100 remain unsigned, and most of them are safeties”

Yet you guys keep pushing your idea that Reid is not on a team because of his protesting?

  4. How many safeties do the Jets need? Good grief there are 10 other positions on defense and last time I checked they need 8 or 9 better guys in those spots then they currently have.

  5. People getting excited over this dude is comical. I was a huge fan of him coming out and he was really good his rookie year. After that he has been one of the worst graded safeties in the nfl. He’s an undersized 2 down LBer at this point. He can’t play safety. He literally can’t cover anyone in the nfl. He either gives up monsterous plays are has flags thrown on him. Good luck whoever signs him.

The Jets love to bring in these outdated Safeties in the box like it’s 2002.

Barring great coverage skills against move TEs like PAt Chung or someone like that, a physical in the box Safety is a waste in this era’s league.

You’re better off drafting a really versatile and athletic LB at 235/240 lbs. Kam Chancellor runs 230 and he’s the prototype.

Of course, the Jets did this with Darrin Lee, but he’s a bust.

Calvin Pryor was another bust that they couldn’t understand was too one dimensional.

Keep an eye on Jamal Adams, too. He”s not far off from Calvin Pryor Land. Plays downhill well, but that is it. He has no range at all and weak lateral movement.

What does that say about Gronk then? I recall Adams shutting down Gronk in coverage, week 16. Gronk would have had another sub par day in the 1st game if he wasnt gifted two phantom PI calls. The Jets live in your head rent free despite you being a fan of a dynasty team. Sad.

  8. Looks like the Jets will line up eleven QBs on offense and eleven Safeties on defense…..

Why aren’t the Cowboys bringing in these guys for a visit? Can get one cheap. No brainer in my opinion.

I have two obvious answers/responses to your statement. The first one being brain and the word Cowboys will never work at all together, and second it’s Jerruh Jones, so that should answer that on its own. With you being a cowboys fan and all I figured you would have already caught on to this by now, but then we go back to my original statement so there’s your answer.

  10. Sign reid if you want him missing half the season due to another concussion. He’s so injury prone, he gets concussed every year. It’s a good thing when he gets concussed because he’s awful at safety. He’s always getting torched on defense. He’s beyond awful. He lost his job and was tried out as a lb and failed there also. He’s terrible anywhere on defense. The best thing for a defense is when he suffers his usual concussion because the defense improves when he’s done for the year. It’s pointless to sign a concussion prone defender with awful skills that lives on ir. He’s worthless.

  11. I can’t understand how even a player like Tre Boston, who had a solid season in LA, can’t get a deal. The safety market this off-season is odd.

Excuse me? He destroyed Adams up the seam over and over. Resting Gronk for Week 16 with the whole thing wrapped up his hilarious to me, and I am sure, others as well.

This is exactly what you are Jets fans; you get excited over very minor things that aren’t really reflective of the truth or reality.

Tell me, how is Leonard Williams doing? Trey Flowers>>Leonard Williams.

  13. @TyLawsPick6

Gronkowski played his regular snap count week 16, he got BLANKED. Trey Flowers > Williams?? The same Trey Flowers who was decimated by Le’Veon Bell and Eli Rogers and completely disappeared from week 12 to the SB? The same Leonard Williams with a higher PFF grade than your whole D-line and a better run stopper than your whole defensive roster combined?
