President Trump cancels Eagles’ visit to White House

Chris Long and Malcolm Jenkins were among the Eagles players who already said they wouldn’t visit the White House. Now, none of the Eagles will.

President Donald Trump issued a statement canceling the trip, citing the national anthem as the reason.

“The Philadelphia Eagles are unable to come to the White House with their full team to be celebrated tomorrow,” the statement reads. “They disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our country. The Eagles wanted to send a smaller delegation, but the 1,000 fans planning to attend the event deserve better. These fans are still invited to the White House to be part of a different type of ceremony — one that will honor our great country, pay tribute to the heroes who fight to protect it, and loudly and proudly play the National Anthem. I will be there at 3:00 p.m. with the United States Marine Band and the United States Army Chorus to celebrate America.”

The Eagles recently held meetings with their players, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Media. Owner Jeff Lurie opted to send a smaller contingent to avoid putting his players in a “tough spot.”

Now, though, none will go.

  1. Trump has mad a mockery of the highest office in the land. If he really cared so much about vets and the flag, he would have represented this country in uniform when he had the chance. 2020 cant get here fast enough.

  2. Well done Trump! If these guys vant get over their own opinions for 5 minutes to respect the country, the capital, and the president himself…then time to move on without them. Grow up and suck it up for 5 minutes guys. Show some maturity and respect no matter who is POTUS. Eagles are embarassing.

  3. Good. Can we just cancel this stupid ritual all together? What was intended to be a light-hearted celebration of sport has turned into just another opportunity for people to cram their politics down everyone’s throat.

  4. Send the Eagles to Arlington National Cemetery to learn about true sacrifice. A tour would add some much needed perspective. Invite Chris Long and Jenkins too!

  5. lol our president is such a damn snowflake. He will go down as one of the very worst presidents ever. He panders to racists and the morons applaud him.

  6. It’s amazing they are still trying to spin this as disrespecting the flag and vets.

  7. Don’t Mr. President the Jaguars will be there after this season. And could have & should have been there this year. Because Myles Jack wasn’t down!

  8. So he got his feelings hurt and is going to make up some other reason to have what amounts to nothing more than a photo-op? Geez, what a child.

  9. Way to go Mr President ! Long and jenkins presence in the white house would cheapen it

  10. so….every person that argued that the right to protest extended to protesting at work and it was a violation of rights making someone do something dont want to. By your own argument Trump is perfectly within his rights here.

But all of you that argued that a person cant protest at work…the white house visit was an official function and its in recognition of their accomplisment with the victory and not about the players opinions, so by your argument Trump is out of line here.

I just ticked off both sides so let the thumbs down begin.

  11. Trump does not get it, it was never about the flag or anthem. It is about basic civil rights of the minorities in this country. But he can not help himself and making it all about himself.

  12. If we’re not careful, we’ll politicize everything in the country. Going to the White House for a photo op isn’t making a political statement if you stick to football. It’s a moment for laying down politics. Being photographed with someone you disagree with in celebration of a Super Bowl win is not capitulating to them or buying into their agenda.

  13. “I will be there at 3:00 p.m. with the United States Marine Band and the United States Army Chorus to celebrate America.”
    __________

Any bets that when that hour rolls around, Trump will be nowhere to be seen, having forgotten all about this the second after he said it?

  15. Never in our history have so many champions and great athletes refused to go to the White House and meet the president of the United States. This isn’t just the NFL. Seriously, is it the athletes or the president causing this? I think we all know the answer to this question.

  16. President Trump did the right thing.

Visiting the “People’s House” is an honor and privilege despite who is president.

Take a seat Chris Long. You have been spoken to…

  17. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Donnie is the greatest – at least, he tells himself that when looking into the mirror. The Eagles are better off not coming. After all, they all would have had to light matches to kill off the stench from the doo-doo that spills off Trump’s lips. Oh, November 6th could not come any quicker. The prez is starting to sound like Humphrey Bogart from The Caine Mutiny – it was the strawberries. Nothing but garbage excuses that his followers seem to drink up like Rev. Jim Jones’ kool-aid

  18. @ctiggs

Yes, 2020 can’t get here fast enough. We’ll be celebrating four more years of Trump!

Thanks Long and Jenkins for ruining a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that, I’m sure, most of the team wanted to attend.

  19. The New York Football Giants(Presidents team) hatred of the Eagles continues. This hated rivalry is even more heated.

  20. Remember when the owners thought their “compromise” would make the anthem issue go away?

Also just a reminder, the national anthem doesn’t honor the troops any more than anyone else. You can believe that it does but you’re just wrong.

  21. What about the players and coaches who wanted to go to the White House? Trumps demands complete worship and acceptance or none at all.

  22. I didnt agree with Obamas point of views but i still would have respected the office and been grateful for the opprotunity to meet a POTUS. Our youth is screwed if these ungrateful spolied Eagles players are any indication. Ugh…

  23. Wow.. the whiner in chief strikes again. So happy no one wants to be associated with this clown. Maybe he can go tweet about it like a school girl and mention the eagles players must have donated to hillary, no collusion, witch hunt and yada yada.

He treats our allies like scum and praises dictators…. the guy is a used car salesman who got lucky with his daddys money and connections.

  24. Captain Bone Spurs with a lecture on “patriotism.” Amazing, how easily he can manipulate the fragile ‘sensitivities’ of his base. He doesn’t give a rats’ about the National Anthem, except to the extent that it’s a political ‘football’ to serve his interests.

  25. They all should have gone this way any issues that they have with each other could be talked about FACE 2 FACE. Never back out of a chance to make a difference if you REALLY want to have a chance of resolving it. It’s sad on both sides.

  26. If trump loved our country and “those who fight for it” he wouldn’t disparage law enforcement, cut military pay, nominate his personal doctor to be VA Secretary, and collide with Russia. Congrats Comrade Trump – our very own Traitor in Chief. I love America, therefore I’m against the traitor, anti-America trump.

  27. So the POTUS dis-invites the eagles to the white house cause their employer forced them to engage in politics in the workplace.

Instead he will continue to use the military as a prop while cutting benefits to servicemen and woman and ban transgendered from proudly serving.

    This man is utterly despicable.

  28. Trump realized no one was going to be there, it would be an embarrassment for him, so he canceled it. Hilarious.

  29. What a joke this guy is…doesn’t even know the words to the National Anthem, insults POW’S and parades around with his fake patriotism while he sits and talks as the flag is lowered at a Pennsylvania Air National Guard base, thinking they are playing “retreat” for him… and none of his supporters care…at least he can spend some time with the Marine Band and tell all the service men and women about how he would have served top but he was busy dodging the draft….

  30. Great news! C’mon Birds, let’s make it two non-visits in a row next year!

  31. A 5 time draft dodger who doesn’t even know the words to the anthem has no right to complain about the protests

  32. Trump should lead the singing of the national anthem. Ya know, a replay of the national championship game where he clearly didn’t know the words.

I agree with you what its about and why Eagles players should go. But by that same argument I think Trump should have held it for the guys that were still willing to come. We can only control our own behavior and even in the face of others doing the wrong thing make sure we at least do the right thing. Doing wrong in return doesnt make you right, it just has you joining them in being wrong.

  34. This Fool goes out of his way to embarrasses himself daily now. I find it difficult to believe there are people out there that approve of ANOTHER of his nonsensical TWEETS. I CANNOT wait until this guy is OUTTA HERE.

  35. The Constitutionally ignorant, narcissistic joker who said that he prefers his heroes not to be captured portrays himself and his followers as supreme patriots. Samuel Johnson surely had it right: “Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.”

  36. Weather or not you agree with the protests is up to you, I don’t think anyone can deny how childish this man is though.

  37. Congrats, Eagles fans. You finally won your first Super Bowl but the anthem protests are what the team will be remembered for.

  38. So you have twenty or so players who voted for President Trump, continue to support him, and stand for the anthem, and they have been disinvited… why, exactly? You’re cancelling the invitations of players WHO SUPPORT YOU – why?

Unbelievably classless, petulant move that has the President, once again, making history for all the wrong reasons.

  40. Good! Let’s use the free time to do your job and work on the country’s problems. That’s what are tax dollars should pay for. Not parties and visits to the White House.

  41. Trump is a coward, and is afraid of rejection. He probably feared most of the team wouldnt show up, or someone would show up and confront him. He really has become the ultimate #snowflake.

  42. The same simpletons keep posting the same nonsense that this is disrespecting the flag when in fact the opposite is true. This country was borne out of dissent and progress is made when voices are heard. The players have every right to have their voices heard during the playing of the anthem and it has nothing to do with disrespecting the military and everything to do with raising awareness. Donald Trump is a coward who never served a day in his life.Had his rich daddy’s doctor write a BS letter about his flat feet. None of you flag wavers talk about that. Trump had the audacity to call out John McCain a man who served and spent 5 years as a prisoner of war. Now that’s disrespecting our military and a true American hero.

  43. A few weeks ago, The Washington Post ran an article which can be summed us as “Hey, George W. Bush wasn’t so bad!” in order to bash Trump. In 15-20 years, when they run the same article saying “Hey Trump wasn’t so bad!” in order to bash the Republican hate object of that day, players who didn’t go to the White House because of their political views will feel like total suckers. And no one will care then.

  44. 2 things here. 1. The Eagles are one of the few teams in the league that have never had any player kneel or sit. Jenkins and a few others raise a fist. 2. Chris Long and Malcolm Jenkins have given more to charity and this country in the last year then Donald Trump has in his entire life.

  45. Using fake patriotism to promote racism.

I’m glad they are not going, I hope no other sports team goes to shake that womanizing self absorbed hypocrites hand while he’s in office.

Certainly. Cutting Obama’s job-killing taxes and regulations, giving a tax cut to 91% of middle-income taxpayers (source: Bernie),pulling out of the job-killing Paris Accord and TPP that Obama championed, and taking direct steps to curb ILLEGAL immigration all lead to the LOWEST EVER Black and Hispanic unemployment rate and 3.8% for everyone else. Remember, President TRUMP replaced President “those jobs are never coming back” Obama and has been pro-American growth and industry ever since.

Sorry it does not fit your false narratives, but President TRUMP has kept his promises and is on his way to being “The Greatest Jobs President God ever created.” To deny that is to acknowledge cognitive dissonance.

  55. Hey, remember when President Obama canceled the Patriots ceremony because Tom Brady decided not to attend because he’s a right wing extremist? Yeah, that didn’t happen. Because President Obama was a MAN, not a psychotic spoiled 8 year old.

  56. It is not racism to stand for the National Anthem. It is not racism to kneel as a sign of protest. To do either is allowed under our current Democracy, without fear of being arrested or imprisonment by the Government. In spite of the clearly decisiveness this issue has generated, I’m hopeful that we all ultimately settle down with the name calling and start looking on ways to improve our Country. God Bless America!!

Well, it’s two actually. Deregulation and tax cuts for business. See, how that works is when businesses don’t spend money on needless regulatory compliance(the compliance cost to US businesses in ’15 was more than the entire GDP of Canada) , they have more money to expand and when they aren’t taxed heavily they also have more money to invest in expansion. These factors have a chain reaction effect as no business operates in a bubble so if some get larger and offer better jobs and pay, then those people spend money at other businesses, etc. It’s a fairly simple concept that would have never happened under Obama.
So there you go, deregulation and tax cuts, specific and fact checkable.

  58. Let me get this straight. Trump makes this about the flag. He politicizes what should be a nonpolitical issue. He influences forced patriotism. Then disinvites the team because he’s embarrassed about what would be a low turnout.

How can anyone take him seriously?

  59. Wow…I love how the anti-trumpers are out in force and is further proof why a White House honor has turned into hyper partisan whinnying. As a Bears fan, I thought Ditka acted like a douche towards President Obama’s, but he still had the balls to go with 85 Bears to celebrate with POTUS. Maybe Chris Long and Malcolm Jenkins could put their politics aside and act like men or the leaders ESPN, PFT and NFL claim them to be.

  60. Daily chaos and disruption is part of Trump’s playbook: to distract the citizenry.
Tom Brady didn’t go to the White House when Barack Obama was President… he had stuff to do, or was running low on brain water.

The constitutional crisis low-wattage republicans voted for, and boy, did Trump deliver.

“I can shoot someone on 5th Ave and get away with it”

  61. “…disagree with their President”…that is what makes America great, not standing or kneeling for the anthem.

  62. Trump and his cronies had no intentions to have the Eagles come to the White House. This was all a PR stunt to pander to his voters, and they are eating it all up.

Trump the chump doesn’t care about the flag or this country, he only cares about himself.

  63. Who cares if they go to the White House?

Super Bowl was over a long time ago.

  64. Why are you bashing a president who actually wants people in this country to stand unified as a country.

  65. It’s not working Mr. President. We’re all still aware of the graft and corruption your people are mired waist-deep in? All the red herrings in the world won’t change that.

  66. Why are you bashing a president who wants a country to stand unified as a country.

  67. “A lot of anti-patriotic folks on here. Honestly, why are you even in this country? Love it, respect it or leave it”

    Seriously!

What other country would put up with this crap?

    ###

Are you talking about Trump or Obama?

Obama disparage law enforcement constantly. Trump constantly praises law enforcement.

The Trump administration just got the military the highest pay raise in 8 years (who was POTUS for the 8 years before Trump?).

Trump’s “doctor” is a Rear Admiral in the Navy. I’m not saying he was/is the best nominee, but it makes sense that a military doctor would be considered for the position. BTW – Rear Admiral Jackson was also Obama’s doctor.

Mueller’s been “investigating” collusion for over a year – the biggest case of collusion is Hillary paying for the fake dossier.

I’m against all people that spread 100% unadulterated lies – like you do.

  72. Trump’s base will be happy–they don’t like “uppity” black people demanding to be treated fairly. He knows how to fire up the wingnuts.

The rest of us see Trump in a more accurate light–in the running to be the WPOAT.

  73. The Eagles players were trying to embarrass him, just like they have been trying to embarrass the Patriots after the Super Bowl. I don’t blame him for cancelling it. They probably thought they weren’t going to have any fun at the White House, and it would be more fun to stay home and have an “optional day” of work. However I won’t be surprised if they take up Bob Casey on his political stunt offer to provide a Capital tour instead and bypass the White House. The Eagles just don’t seem to know how to avoid embarrassing themselves. They’re just a bunch of mis-guided and mouthy Social Justice Warriors.

It is disrespectful! Plain and simple. You don’t get to say something isn’t disrespectful and move on. If it’s not disrespectful then why do all the players stand for the Great Britain’s national anthem? Because it would be disrespectful not to do so! Why can’t the players be honest and say “we are intentionally be disrespectful so people will listen us”? Probably because it would make them look like spoiled children throwing a tantrum. They need to be men and own it! Change the method and move the conversation to the issues they actually want to discuss.

Because its just a freaking show, thats why. He doesnt give a flying crap about this country or the flag. This is all about his personal ratings and he is pressing the right buttons of those that actually do give a crap so he looks good , and then his ego gets stroked.. You’re being sold by the biggest salesman of them all, and you don’t even see it.

He doesn’t even know the words to the national anthem, but boy those players better stand for it!!! Dodged the draft, but you better respect the military!!!

  82. I support the players who wanted to go and the players who didn’t. but this isn’t about that, it isn’t about patriotism. Its about trump getting shut out of the NFL years ago. You know he doesn’t even know the words to the anthem.

The protest was never about patriotism it was about how the black population is treated.

As a Navy Veteran and a Disabled Vet, i encourage all sports to discontinue the practice of visiting the White House until trump is gone in 30 months.

  83. The Eagles blew an opportunity here. They should’ve all agreed to go and then knelt when they played the national anthem right there in front of captain marmalade!

  84. Well that ought to create a divide in the Iggles locker room, or as some might say a “schism”.

  85. Trump speaks for most Americans which is why he was elected president. The kneeling NFL players speak for only the ungrateful.

  86. Melania doesn’t want to go to the White House to meet Trump the chump either, so does that mean he’s going to pout and not invite the rest of his family?

Yeah… there were plenty of baby athletes and entertainers that boycotted Bush, but those who were laying down their lives for our freedoms, at home or abroad, were honored to meet him.

So yeah… let’s talk it seriously when these pansy entertainers try to make a statement and an adult calls their bluff. They’re like my 3 year old and I tired of their tantrums.
    _______________________________________________________
First lets get past the point of everyone other than Trump is throwing tantrums like a baby. I can’t deal with that myopic point right now because the stupid is too strong. But in regards to the points about first responders and troops. As a former troop and current first responder there is no way I would “respect” the poc bigot. Although I do honor his military service when he explained that going to orgies was his Vietnam.

  96. It’s not’s that ridiculous. The Eagles have insulted him and he’s not going to accept complete and total disrespect.

Other Presidents would’ve went along with this team’s nonsense.

  97. “Trump speaks for most Americans which is why he was elected president.
Yeah, I’m guessing math wasn’t your favorite subject.

can you count? there are at least
    3 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 people disagree with your claim.

  98. These whiney malcontent players pushing their political agenda are alienating their fan base and this is just the latest action. It’s ashame because the fans if this team have only been waiting 58 years to enjoy a championship. Sadly some weren’t around long enough to see it. It’s really sad the Eagles players are more interested in advancing their political agendas than representing the city of Philadelphia at the Whitehouse. It would’ve shown a lot of class for the team to be the bigger men and suck it up for die hards if the team but they fell right into the Trump trap and now they look like a bunch of petulant children. Say whatever you want about your anthem stance but the Eagles are angering half of there fan base by doing this and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a number of canceled season tickets.

    ———

That’s not even close to what advocates of kneeling during the anthem have been arguing, so thumbs down for your straw man nonsense. Trump can’t handle the reality that acts of protest and calling out injustice on behalf of the underdog are part of an ethos that resides at the very heart of what makes America great, and what the men and women of our armed forces have fought and died for. He’d rather exert an authoritarian agenda in service of his draft-dodging grifter’s ego. Thankfully that won’t wash for much longer.

Try to get it straight in your thoughts… Democrats… those who hate this country and try to destroy it from within. Republicans (specifically PRESIDENT Donald Trump) who are trying to save the country from the effects of possibly the worst President ever (Obama)

    —————————
Wasnt that when he went to visit his parents because his mother was ailing seriously and they weren’t sure she was going to make it? I know some folks faulted him for that but honestly if it had been my mom I would have gone too.

  103. While all of us can protest during working hours in order to exercise our freedom of speech, there can be consequences for our actions. The NFL has now enacted a policy that follows this model, clearly they saw their ratings fall off this past season and determined that they needed to make a change. The players have a stage on Sundays, but arguably they would have a stage whenever and wherever they wanted during the season or during the off-season, their fame and following would allow that to happen.

Chris Long and Malcolm Jenkins are not leaders, when confronted with a difference of oponions and you have an invitation to meet the man that has expressed his disagreement with something you beloeve in that represents an opportunity to be the bigger person and if your opinion and cause is so strong, you should want to meet him, maybe you could get him to see your side of things and find common ground, that is what a leader of men would do.

People continue to question the divisions in our country, when certain people can only resort to calling Trump supporters names or suggest that we are drinking Kool-Aid instead of instead of debating or simply agreeing to disagree, our society is doomed.

I did not vote for Obama either time, he was the most divisive president when he could have been one of the greatest. He routinely diminished this country and its role in the world and attempted to get us to accept high unemployment as the new norm. He and his sycophant supporters and lapdogs mocked the suggestion that the economy could be turned around by deregulation and tax cuts; they rammed healthcare down our throats and lied about keeping your plan and/or doctor and then laughed about it on Charlie Rose’s show. Trump has many flaws, most of us do, but his legislative agenda and executive orders have led to an economic turnaround and consider that Kim Jong Un crossed over and met the South Korean president in April, the first time a North Korean leader did that since 1953.

  104. If players refused to visit when Obama was there, they’d be publicly shamed, labeled racist, surely must be neo-nazi, islamophobes. Double standards are the biggest cultural issue this country is facing currently.

  105. Makes sense, this was easier to do than offer the eagles players who’ve been socially active to sit down for a brief 10-15 minute conversation. This and his followers reaction is further proof that he does not care about trying to mend fences, to be a bigger person or to be presidential. Now he has a chance to hop on his soap box and be more divisive when his little group comes to visit the White House.

  106. well he got out of serving in Vietnam because of a “foot problem”:, so we knew he was a coward. why are we surprised?

  107. The likes/dislikes of these comments are a pretty good representation of the people’s opinion of Trump without Russian interference.

  108. The national grandpa-child has a fit and disinvites those who were not going to attend his party anyway. Hilarious and good for the Iggles.

  109. I’m certain that ALL of the Eagles players have a feeling of relief that they don’t have to go. Some would have gone, some may have even WANTED to go, but they would have faced constant questions from the media as to why they did. Now they won’t have to deal with that crap. They can concentrate on football and going back to the Super Bowl.

    GO EAGLES!

  110. As a Cowboys fan, I can only hope that in a few years a president will be in office who invites last year’s Champions to the White House.
    They certainly deserve it.

Yes, I do. It matters immensely who that person is. It’s no longer an honor to meet the person who holds that position. It’s not just athletes who see this. 127. At this point can we please move all of the Trump lovers into the Midwest and let them have their dictatorship , heck even build a wall around their Trumpland ,enclose it with their Trump run Fox news and give the rest of the United states back the those that live in the real world dealing with what is really happening in this world. This is the most ridiculous presidency ever.

  128. Long time Eagles fan here! Lurie is a two faced fraud! He is a the silver spooned brat that was given millions finally got something right when he bought the Eagles but now he has pushed it way too far. The posts here may favor the players not going etc. BUT the backlash will be a lot bigger and last longer in Philadelphia then Lurie understands. This is a major black mark on the franchise.
It truly is a disgrace led by their Hillary backing owner. Like Trump or hate Trump Lurie blew this big time.
Jenkins and Long are gone after this year so they will be irrelevant. Bennett could be a major problem and has already caused problems.
Lurie is behind this and I am embarrassed to be an Eagles fan today and who knows how long. This isn’t about one side or the other but Lurie is spineless and covertly orchestrated this horrible decision. A very sad day in Eagles history.

  129. Come celebrate our country with a draft dodger who openly mocks P.OW.’s. A man who said John McCain wasn’t a hero because he was captured. The fact that this man serves as Commander-in-Chief is despicable, he has no right to talk about patriotism.

  130. WOW…Reading all of the comments here is really sad. Left or right, north or south. No solutions only venom. That’s what will bring this country down.

  131. Who gives a flip.

    1. Players have there own personal agendas and use there work (NFL) to voice there opinions.
    2. Politicians cannot win no matter what the situation because everyone is an expert.
    3. Media loves it and fuels the fire to keep it burning.

Conclusion – Football, Politics and the Media are more messed up the ever.

  132. I don’t care what your political views are, you don’t owe Donald Trump or Barack Obama anything but you do owe a debt to those who created this country, those who stand for it today and the principles it’s all built on. It saddens me that people can’t put aside their petty ways and show respect for everything that has given you the freedom not to. These players are making millions playing what would otherwise be an intramural sport. We have freedoms and opportunities, black and white, that couldn’t have been imagined when this country was founded. I get it, you’re upset that things are 100% perfect. Great, take the chance to shake hands with the President and ask for a meeting to be heard. Whining like a spoiled kid will get you nowhere and has done nothing but make you look like you just don’t get it.

  133. Imagine loving football your entire life and choosing politics, for Donald Trump of all people, over this sport over what a handful of guys do for 2 minutes, before the game even starts. How do more people not see this intentional wedge being driven into the country?

  134. Both sides.. if you’re invited to the white house? Go. If for no other reason than to honor you’re country. Not go because you disagree about standing for the flag? How old are you?
As to the president.. it’s okay that some disagree with you. It’s the way of America. Be the adult leader you’re supposed to be. How oldare you?

  135. One can imagine that with the general negative tone of this blog is that most seem to think that we are talking about the Patriots and BB. Guess these wimps are going to be crying for the next 6 1/2 years while the Patriots and Trump continue to make America Greater than ever.

  138. There are no winners here, and it points to exactly what is wrong with modern American society. I wish we could all take a deep breath and remember a time when you could disagree about certain political stances but still be respectful. Visiting the White House should be about visiting the institution (which belongs to WE, THE PEOPLE)– not a particular person of either political persuasion who happens to be occupying it– and representing what is typically a uniting part of our American culture. Likewise, Trump, regardless of how many players show up, should welcome them with open arms on behalf of the public he serves.

Please cite the specific policy that was put forth by this administration to achieve this lowest black unemployment you’re taking a victory lap over?

    ———————

    ———–
Fact checkable, yes, and your assertions are totally and verifiably false. The tax cuts only just started taking effect in January; unemployment has been trending downward since 2010. Regulatory compliance takes up a fraction of the alleged $2 trillion per annum (“GDP of Canada”) you cite, which is a number made up whole cloth by the right-wing Competitive Enterprise Institute, and refuted by the CRS, the GAO, and most economists with any credibility. We had 2.3% GDP growth under Trump in 2017. Obama topped that in 2010, 2014 and 2015. Get your facts straight.

No just a couple of non calls. Could those refs have been Russian?

I appreciate anyone who doesn’t cave to terrorists, foreign or domestic. Nice change from a guy who spent a good chunk of his presidency apologizing to countries on which the US has spent billions while taking every opportunity to dump in hard working citizens and lumping all whites into one group upon which he could point the blame finger.

  158. No one but the NHL champ will visit this clown. How many championship teams have not wanted to visit the White House since Trump has been in office? I know the NCAA men’s and women’s champions declined, the Warriors didn’t want to go last year, and now the Eagles…..The world is watching…..and laughing. How he has turned the office of POTUS into something that is no longer looked at with respect is disappointing in so many levels.

  159. What these nitwit players don’t understand is you show respect to the office of the President, even if you don’t care for the President. It’s the same as in the military. You may not like your commanding officers, but the position they hold still demands that you show them respect.
So — for some players to say they weren’t going because they don’t like Trump is showing disrespect to the office of President.
One thing which really bothers me is how Trump gets labeled as being a racist when nothing could be further than the truth. It didn’t get much publicity, but just the other day President Trump righted a wrong which had been done to the former black heavyweight champion of the world, Jack Johnson, when Trump pardoned him for his conviction of violating the Mann Act way back in the 1910’s. The Mann act was in regard to transporting women across state lines for illicit purposes, and is still on the books, by the way. They arrested Johnson for that but it was in fact his girlfriend and soon-to-be wife that he was with. It was clearly a racist move on their part to arrest Johnson because he was black and he was with a white woman.
So if Trump is so racist, why did he pardon Johnson? No other President had seen fit to do that — including President O’Bama.

Trump did probably what many would do and just cancelled it altogether to avoid the embarrassment. The NFL comes across looking like complete losers yet again. The fact that the NFL owners and players hate each other so much is the reason this will continue to make them BOTH look bad. You’d think grown ups could conduct themselves in a more mature way ….. But I guess that’s asking for too much.

LOWEST EVER Black unemployment (3.8% for everyone else), HIGHEST EVER small business index, and real-wage growth on low-end for first time in a decade. Sir, please make certain to bottle those tears because he is running on an incredibly positive record and beating all who you would support in 2020.
    ——————————–
That stuff is irrelevant. Trump has demeaned the Presidency to its lowest point ever. He has pulled us out of important international agreements, slapped tariffs on goods from friends and allies which will hurt Americans in the end, and generally acted like an immature child. There is no way Trump will win a second term in 2020. Americans by then will be sick and tired of his antics, if they aren’t already, and he’ll lose by a huge landslide.

Translation: Facts are not relevant. We just don’t like Trump and we’re going to blame him for the damaging seeds that were sown by the divider before him.

  165. NFL owners, players (players union- Demaurice Smith) and POTUS are each 33.33% to blame for this mess. None of these 3 circus acts are defensible. Which is why is will continue to drag on. This is a dream scenario for the media. People continue to pick sides and no side is right.

  166. When the Washington Capitol’s win the Stanley Cup the whole team, coaching staff, support staff, and janitors will attend a celebration at the White House.

  167. “Brady went to visit his parents because his mother was ailing”-neatpete:

Ah, that claim is contradicted by numerous reports at the time. Many indicated he did other things (see below), and was enthusiastically acknowledged by a few as showing up the president, including Mark Wahlberg..

As it turns out though, Brady wasn’t with his family when the Patriots went to Washington DC on the morning of April 23. According to ESPN.com, the Patriots quarterback was actually at Gillette Stadium getting some stretching in while the rest of the team was visiting with Obama.
Less than 24 hours later, Brady was at an Apple Store in New York City checking out the company’s new Apple watch.

  168. I don’t blame Trump. Why have these immature brats come. Who cares if you don’t like Trump? It’s a tradition every year that the champs visit. It’s a chance to see the White House, for free. I would go even if I hated the president.

  169. It would have been just another day for in the life for Trump, again he owns his inferiors. Speaking to them in their own language with some tough love and consequences for the grandstanding pubescents. Now cue the crying about fake patriotism as if you guys actually have any appreciation of what patriotism is..

Remember when the owners thought their “compromise” would make the anthem issue go away?

Also just a reminder, the national anthem doesn’t honor the troops any more than anyone else. You can believe that it does but you’re just wrong.

Exactly! Thank you! Many people have fought and died for this country – their purpose was not to make sure military veterans were treated like holy relics. Our country is free – everyone is free.

And for everyone talking about “respecting the office” – you mean like Donald respected Obama when he was President? How quickly some forget when it’s convenient.

    ————-

Preposterous. Trump pardoned Johnson so he could gloat about how his “great friend” Sylvester Stallone lobbied him into doing it. The pardon had nothing to do with any lofty motivation to right a century-old wrong or restore racial harmony. Far from it.

Any idea what Obama (spell his name right) was actually doing when the same request came across his desk? All his efforts were focused on clemency for *living prisoners* who’d been sentenced under outdated drug laws for non-violent crimes. Plus there’s the obvious: if Obama had granted a pardon to a long-dead black boxer (who once gave his wife a vicious beating, by the way, because he thought she was having an affair), Republicans would have been in his face immediately for “playing the race card.”

Trump and the GOP are beyond ridiculous — which is why I can’t wait for the start of this NFL season. Let the kneeling begin!

Trump has many flaws, most of us do, but his legislative agenda and executive orders have led to an economic turnaround and consider that Kim Jong Un crossed over and met the South Korean president in April, the first time a North Korean leader did that since 1953.

    ————

Total claptrap. The economy started turning around in 2010, and Obama presided over 6-1/2 years of uninterrupted growth — which is especially remarkable considering we were coming out of the worst meltdown since WWII (thanks Bush, Bear Stearns, Lehman and AIG!), and that the GOP legislature vigorously opposed every single move Obama made to steer the economy out of the abyss. Meanwhile, Wall Street has enjoyed a bull market since 2010; without the auto industry bailout (Obama), the stimulus package (Obama) and quantitative easing (Obama/Bernanke), none of it would have been possible.

Kim will eat Trump’s lunch if the summit happens on June 12. Mark my words.

  173. What a snowflake. This is who is the hero of conservatives. Not a SINGLE Eagles player knelt or “disrespected the flag” last year.

  174. @mudachains—-Send the Eagles to Arlington National Cemetery to learn about true sacrifice. A tour would add some much needed perspective. Invite Chris Long and Jenkins too!

Perhaps President “Bone Spurs” should be going to Arlington to learn about True Sacrifice because its painfully obvious the lesson hasn’t set in yet!!!

  175. It’s a lot easier to cancel your party when you know no one is going to show up.

Good. Can we just cancel this stupid ritual all together? What was intended to be a light-hearted celebration of sport has turned into just another opportunity for people to cram their politics down everyone’s throat.
