Seven players get 99 ratings in Madden 19

The Madden 19 quarterback ratings that recently emerged were either subsequently revised or incorrect.

The video game franchise officially has unveiled its players with overall ratings of 99, and the list includes not one but two quarterbacks: Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. The previously-leaked ratings had only Rodgers at 99, and Brady at 97.

The other 99s include Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, Broncos linebacker Von Miller, Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly, Steelers receiver Antonio Brown, and Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald.

The initial ratings really don’t mean all that much, because the ratings are subject to change, on a regular basis to reflect actual performance. And for those (like me) who have developed an unhealthy obsession with Madden Ultimate Team, the initial ratings don’t matter, because the early phases of the 12-month MUT life cycle consist of players with much lower base numbers, with a broad collection of improved ratings emerging over time for current and former players, culminating in a frenzy of far-fetched 99-rated players being released in May, June, and July.

And, yes, I’m still trying to get them to make a 99 Ultimate Legend version of Chris Simms. But the folks at EA apparently aren’t willing to fetch quite that far.

  1. Luke Kuechly shouldn’t be 99, he isn’t even the best at his position anymore. But if he’s 99, so should Bobby Wagner, Khalil Mack, and Le’veon Bell. All about equal at their respected positions.

  2. Brady shouldn’t be a 99, maybe a few years ago yes… but he Pats fans will start complaining that he isn’t a100 lol.. he should be 98 for that dropped pass.

  3. “because the ratings are subject to change, on a regular basis to reflect actual performance”

…and yet, a QB who hasn’t thrown The Duke in 18 months can still rank iin the Top 20.

Could be time to get a life Mike….just saying

  5. I’m guessing that EA altered the 99 ratings based on NFL Networks Top 100 segment. Most of the players who are now 99 were ranked 1-10.

    If he’s not a 99 I can only assume Khalil Mack is a 100?

Or its probably safer to assume that Mack is not as good as you think.. He wasn’t even rated in the top 10 by his fellow NFL players in the Top 100 segment

  7. In the game as in life, Rodgers is the only QB you want when you need a miraculous 50 yard catch into triple coverage in the fourth quarter while down three touchdowns.

  8. In Madden ratings, Trump is a 30. In real life, he’s a 0. On society’s attractiveness scale of 0-10, he’s a “Is there a rating lower than zero?”

  9. Not sure about AR being a 99, i mean it’s a toss up between him and Trent Dilfer as the best QBs ever with only 1 SB win.

Every year I hear that AR makes throws that no one else can, but then why doesn’t he make those throws when his team is losing and lead them to a win? Does he just not feel like it?

    Somewhere, Brad Johnson laughs.

Initial ratings, or later ones, all mean absolutely nothing – it’s all a make-believe game for salty imaginations to prove that at least in their own mommy’s basement, their pretend team is king.

    103.8 QB rating.

98 rating when playing without the lead………

    Here endeth the lesson.

Yeah, he only appears to be as good a pass rusher as Von and a more dominating run defender on the edge. To be fair, Von has had more team success and Mack and the Raiders will have to do the same to get all the accolades he clearly deserves.

Nope, Pro Football Focus has Von Miller rated #1 against the run, ahead of Mack. You should watch the Top 100 video for Miller, it explains this. There is really not one thing that Mack can do better than Miller so stop it. They are both great players though.

    Fixed it for you.

PFF isn’t the be-all end-all but they did rank Mack as their top “edge defender” and one slot ahead of Von in their Top 50 ranking, so there’s that.

I’ll put it this way; there’s no way on earth one should be ranked so far ahead of the other.

  17. we will see how good wagner us whwm all the all stars leave the team. kuechly is a one man wrecking crew with no superstars.

  18. i don’t play Madden and am curious – does Rodgers 99 rating drop down to a 40 once playoffs start?

    99.4 post-season rating, 3rd among active QBs.

1.5 points from retaking the top spot.

He should have no problems then; if he gets back to the playoffs, even Rodgers should get at least a rating of 1.5. Anything over 10.0 though I’d play the under

    Still stings? Still?

SuperBowl XLV. Rodgers, three TD’s, game MVP, QB rating of 112. All against the top-rated Steeler defense.

    Licked wounds never heal.

3:52 – Seahawks get the ball, trailing by 12
2:13 – Seahawk td, extra point
    1:33 – Seahawk td, 2-point conversion
    1:19 – Rodgers gets ball trailing 22-19

    Tell me, what happens next?

  24. So is it just me or are there more people out there who enjoy franchise mode and haven’t ever bothered with MUT?
    =====

I think there will always be a portion of the audience that will never play MUT.

But its the golden goose for EA, for sure. They made something like $700,000,000 on Ultimate Team between Madden, FIFA and NHL. I wonder if they even made that on Madden sales?

.. now that Madden is back on PC, I think franchise has a chance to be what it was from 2003-2005. Lots of work to get there though.
