NFL announces Jameis Winston suspension

Getty Images

The NFL has announced that Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston will indeed miss the first three games of the 2018 regular season, as a result of a suspension arising under the Personal Conduct Policy.

“In November 2017, the NFL learned of an incident involving Winston and a shared-ride service driver that had taken place in March 2016 in Scottsdale, AZ,” the league said in a statement. “The incident, which had been immediately reported by the driver to her employer and which resulted in Winston’s removal from the ride-sharing platform, was also publicly reported last November.

“The league promptly initiated a comprehensive investigation that included interviews with several persons, including the driver, Winston and others with relevant information. The league also examined an extensive amount of other evidence, including telephone records, business records, data from electronic devices and other communications. Based on the investigation, the NFL found that Winston had violated the NFL Personal Conduct Policy, which allows for discipline to be imposed even when criminal charges are not presented.”

While the statement does not delve into the specifics, it explains that Winston “violated the Personal Conduct Policy by touching the driver in an inappropriate and sexual manner without her consent and that disciplinary action was necessary and appropriate.”

Winston has accepted the punishment and will not appeal, which fairly can be taken as an admission that he did what he was accused of doing. He will be eligible for training camp and the preseason. His suspension will commence following the preseason finale, and it will last until the day after the Week Three Monday night home game against the Steelers.

Spot on post man, I agree 100%!!!!

  3. Ya its sad that these guys have soo much riding on their carrers but still do crappy things.Im sur he is regretting this come on dude you a professional Ball player.

  4. Cut his ass loose. So done with his antics. His disrespect for women, if it wasn’t crystal clear before, is clearly a pattern. He lied to the team. He lied to the media and fans, and he’s clearly still lying to himself. We’ve mostly lost with you, and we can sure as hell lose without your scuzzy ass.

  5. Is there a way to make this post a sticky so it remains at the top of PFT forever? I think we should commemorate the first time nhpats has ever posted something intelligent.

  6. If he played for the Pats we’d be hearing how he was innocent and the victim of a vast conspiracy.

  7. Like many Bucs fans, I very disappointed in Jamis! Then he tried to get others to lie for him making everything worse. If your a man, you stand up and admit what you did and move on with life. Jamis chose to try and cover it up he incident with lies! Jamis is a better than average QB, but how do the Bucs trust him going forward?

  8. 1 game: Josh Brown repeatedly terrorizes his ex-wife

3 games: Jameis Winston sexually assaults an Uber driver

4 games: Tom Brady asks ball boys to underinflate footballs

16 games: Martavis Bryant uses marijuana

  9. Roger was hoping the Jenkins house basement body find would be juicier and cover up this gift wrapped no appeal deal of 3 games for being a total creep. Why the NFL pays the QBs the most but also lets this guy have a little 3 gamer is beyond words screwed up. Tom Brady should make a statement today that he is filing legal proceedings against the league.

  10. The post of the day ladies and gentlemen comes from kcl10 for his ability to incorporate and use the phrase “scuzzy ass” in a post! Bravo sir, bravo!

  16. If he admits to touching this driver in a sexual way w/o consent…Why isn’t there enough evidence for a charge of sexual assault? Sounds like there was NOT enough evidence but enough for Adolf Goodell to get 3 games from him.

Im starting to think ol’ Rog gets a commission for every day a suspended athlete serves.

4 games for vitamin supplements. 4 for Brady on a witch Hunt. 6 because Zeke is immature…and only 3 for a man with a history of being a creep sexually assaulting a female?!!

  17. Anyone find it weird that this gets 3 games and Josh Brown gets 1 and Ray Rice got 2? And then Zeke Elliot gets 6? And Brady gets 4? What in God’s green earth is the standard here? Goodell must have a dart board or Wheel of Punishment he spins every time he feels the need to screw another PR issue up. Further definitive proof he has zero idea of what he’s doing.

  18. Considering they’re No. 4 in their division, unlikely they would make the playoffs anyway unless the other starting QBs get hurt.

Brady case was proven to be garbage by all scientific outlets not paid by NFL and the NFL hiding the PSI logs after promising “transparency” among other major issues with that investigation.

But that aside, don’t forget, Josh Brown initially only got 1 game and Ray Rice initially got 2.

Oh, they understand the physics. They just got caught not knowing the Pats would rebel and expose the framejob attempt.

What morons who believe Goodell don’t want to accept due to embarrassment, is the fact that the framejob was only initiated AFTER Brady

So, “everyone knows Brady deflates”, is the 1 of 56 key lies in the Wells Report. If it was so well known, why didn’t Hawk Goodell who has been just waiting for an opportunity to appease the cheating owners, wait so long to frame again after 2007?

This is what the rubes who want Goodell to cheat the Pats won’t accept.

How on earth Winston only gets 3 games is anyone’s guess, but it’s also anyone’s guess Goodell lied TWICE abour Ray Rice with easiest disciplinary decision known to man on the table, or why Gomer Manning ran around with HGH when caught stone cold at the end of 2015.

It’s just a fascinating study at this point.

I know I’m in the minority on this one probably, but this isn’t quite comparing apples to apples. One infraction, while worse morally than the other, does not affect the product on the field. On the other hand, Brady’s alleged infraction potentially created a competitive advantage. That is most likely why the “personal conduct policy” is weighted differently. Personal conduct is not the same as cheating. And no I’m not weighing in with my thoughts as to whether or not Brady was guilty, I haven’t seen all the evidence. I’m just saying that what someone does on the field and what they do off the field aren’t exactly equal.

Well you are incorrect because I am here to do just that. Brady lied first and foremost about deflating footballs. You know he had the equipment guy do that as well as I do. There is enough evidence even with the evidence Brady refused to turn over that proved that…hence the suspension. Brady lied about not knowing the identity or role of McNally. LIE. He has text exchanges with the guy. Brady said he had no knowledge of anything the whole time. LIE. You think the equipment guy just randomly thought he would deflate balls?? PLEASE! He did it to gain an advantage that is against the rules. In short….he lied through the entire process. They DID NOT have all his texts and everything as you say! He destroyed his phone and refused to turn over emails, texts and cell records and the ones that were turned over were redacted. All in order to inhibit the investigation. I know if I am innocent I am definitely doing whatever possible to prove that. He did the opposite. The past issues with the league were with the Patriot organization which he is a part of, so whether that was a factor or not was never said, but everything they have done was to gain an advantage that is clearly against all NFL rules. Hence, the punishments they have been handed down. So, there is just a small sample of some of the answers you weren’t expecting. Patriot fans just need to get over it and enjoy their success while it lasts and stop whining about a suspension that was warranted.

  43. Davew128

I hear what you’re saying about statue of limitations but, the prosecutor could have easily (usually do) charge him with felony assault. It might have been kicked down to a municipal charge but they could have used the higher charge for the arrest because there isn’t a statue on felony sexual assault or in some states a longer statue. Does this woman get no justice?

Tampa Bay should call about Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles. He’s a better more proven QB (played with DJax in his incredible season couple yrs back) he’s definitely the kind of charector you need as your leader and he’s respected on and off the field. Howie is waiting…1rst and a 3rd.

  44. Sorry, Erik Gainer but you’d have been better off just not replying at all. Just saying Brady lied over and over is not proof of or even a substantive argument for you statements. If Brady wasn’t convincing enough for you, do you think the FACT that he was responding to NFL leaked, wildly inaccurate data (that they refused to correct) the nature of which was never tracked or recorded prior affected anyone’s ability to speak with authority or conviction on psi? Why did Wells call Brady cooperative (FACT) if he obfuscated throughout? The NFL has no rights to a player’s personal cell phone, (FACT) so what fool would hand theirs over to an organization that was leaking negative pr on you? McNally was a game day only employee who Brady knew only by his nickname Bert/Bird, not his actual name (FACT) and there were NEVER ANY TEXTS EXCHANGED BETWEEN MCNALLY AND BRADY. This FACT was where you blew any credibility you had. And ONCE AGAIN if they had McNally and Jastremski’s phones (FACT) wouldn’t they have Jastremski’s texts with Brady?? And even McNally’s imaginary ones??

  45. 3 gms vs the Saints, Eagles, & Steelers. Don’t know who the backup qb is but their chances of being better than 1-2 is mighty slim.

  46. So you really believe that they suspended Brady and upheld the appeal when they knew for a fact he did nothing wrong? You seriously believe this? Cheaters lie about what they do. Over and over. Until there is concrete evidence and they are caught once and for all. He could have admitted what he did, apologize and did all he could to make amends. But instead he stuck to his lies, let others take the blame, tried to convince people he was railroaded and this upstanding guy who would never. He has no remorse which is why respect is difficult for so many to hold for the talent he does really have. It’s why he’s never going to live it down. Playing stupid would have even been a better choice. He has no idea how many people would have been upset but respected him for being honest and trying to somehow fix what he did. He continued to try to beat the system and fight a battle he had no business in fighting because of what he did. There ended up being more damage to him because of the continued lies and lack of any remorse. He could be the greatest guy in the world but the second he committed a wrong he had to own it when caught. He didn’t. He still hasn’t. He never will. He blew his own reputation and list a lot because of it. He doesn’t have to care so he doesn’t. That’s the arrogance. I get standing by your team but not when they do things they have been clearly caught doing and is wrong on so many levels

  47. dynastypolice is either Mrs. Goodell or someone who never read a single document on Deflategate.
I think I began to seriously believe the NFL knew he did nothing wrong about the time it went to court and the transcript of Brady’s appeal hearing was unsealed revealing Goodell’s twisting of Brady’s testimony (in other words Goodell lied) to suit his upholding of the suspension. It was just his desperate attempt to double down on the suspension because the Wells Report had become a joke by that time. Then when NFL counsel admitted that they had no direct evidence, I think that sealed the deal for me. How about you? Did Goodell appointing himself arbitrator of his own decision and the “independent” Wells Report being edited by the NFL’s attorney point to a fair process? It never would have gone to court if the process was conducted fairly, that’s on the NFL not Brady. I get hating a rival team but willful ignorance isn’t a podium to judge from. And by the way, do you think Winston deserved less than Brady?
