Judge rules there is sufficient evidence for Kellen Winslow II to stand trial

A preliminary hearing regarding rape and kidnapping charges against former NFL tight end Kellen Winslow II wrapped up in San Diego Thursday with a judge ruling there is sufficient evidence for the case to move forward to trial.

USA Today reports Judge Harry M. Elias threw out two burglary charges, but ruled that Winslow will move toward trial on two counts of rape, two counts of kidnapping with intent to commit rape and one count of forcible sodomy. If convicted on all charges, Winslow could face life in prison.

Winslow had been held without bail after his arrest, but the judge set bail at $2 million on Thursday. Winslow’s attorney Harvey Steinberg said during final deliberations that the case “is going to be hotly contested.”

The decision comes a day after several witnesses and alleged victims were unable to identify Winslow, who sported a different look in the courtroom than the one we’ve become accustomed to over the years, in court. Other witnesses testified on Thursday before the hearing concluded.

  1. From everything I can remember Winslow Sr. was nothing but a class act. Kids ….sometimes they disappoint.

    PS. Eddie George has a new painting of the guy in the far left of the photo used for this story. He must be famous.

  2. The fact that Winslow has changed his appearance so drastically is for me the biggest indicator of his guilt. Hopefully the jury gets it pointed out to them during the trial.

  3. If PFT posts 10 topics 5 of them have to do with players in trouble. The league is a mess.

  4. He is employing the old TV Superman disguise. No one could tell Clark Kent was Superman because he was wearing glasses…lol A quick internet search produced no photos of him wearing glasses, except the courtroom photo. Dude probably doesn’t even need them…so clean shaven, and glasses may confuse some people.

    Where did they find a judge with half a brain.

    ======================================

    In a courtroom, doing his job, like he does every day while slogging through hundred or thousands of cases every year. Don’t think that a couple of paragraphs in a media report about one case gives you a clue about the reality of being a judge and what it takes to do it anywhere close to right.

  6. I guess the Mr. Magoo makeover didn’t work. I’m surprised he didn’t wear those glasses with the funny nose and mustache.

  7. Re the witnesses who were unable to ID him at the prelim hearing. At trial, the prosecution will show booking photos of Winslow at the time of his arrest. The Menendez Brothers sweater vest and glasses won’t matter much then.

  8. I see this going the Aaron Hernandez direction. We’ll find out soon enough that CTE played a large part in his behavior change. I hope. Otherwise, this dude is just pure evil.

  9. New thread says he’s being charged with raping an unconscious 17 year old girl 15 years ago when he was 19. I’m guessing this means there’s DNA evidence we haven’t heard about. So much for the glasses masking his identity from the eyewitnesses.

    What kind of animal has this guy turned in to?

    –People don’t usually just turn into someone like that. This may be who he’s been all along.
