Titans and Taylor Lewan reach five-year deal

Taylor Lewan can safely practice now, as long as he leaves his wallet in the locker room.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Titans have agreed to a five-year, $80 million deal with their left tackle, which includes $50 million in guarantees.

That makes Lewan the highest-paid lineman in the league, surpassing the deal Nate Solder got with the Giants earlier this offseason (four years, $62 million).

The two sides have had an amicable negotiation (despite his skipping mandatory minicamp), and Lewan showed up for camp on time, though he stayed out of team drills until the deal was done.

  1. Hardly “amicable” if he’d skipped camp and effectively still holding-out from anything of import.

he and Solder have set the bar for B+ OTs.

What bar have you set ?

  3. I forget, is it this guy or Conklin who’s the bonehead who can’t keep his cool and racks up personal fouls. I’m pretty sure it’s him who cost the Titans a win against the Raiders a few years ago when he committed a stupid PF that kept Oakland’s winning drive alive in the waning seconds. Thanks for that by the way.

How can an O-lineman commit a PF that keeps a winning drive alive for the other offense? Please elaborate.

He missed 3 days of veteran mini camp in no pads in June. That’s no big deal. He reported to training camp as scheduled and got the deal done the 1st day. Both sides wanted to get this done and they did. That is what was amicable about it. He is being Aaron Donald or LeVeon Bell.

My mistake. The Titans were down 17-10 and completed a pass that would have set them up with 1st and goal from the 3 as time was expiring. Oakland tackled the receiver, and for some stupid reason this meathead speared a Raider defender for no reason and moved them back to the 18. They didn’t convert and lost the game. He’s been involved in many a dirty play.

  7. I think he is getting better at avoiding stupid penalties, but his fiery competitiveness is what makes him such a beast. I loved it when he got in Richard Sherman’s face last season after Sherman made a late hit on Mariota. The perfect guy to protect Mariota. I’d say that he is worth being the highest paid OL in the league. LT is a very valuable position as well, so they had to make this deal.

  8. Lewan definitely had his share of hothead moments earlier in his career, but has matured greatly over the past two years and is now an established and respected team leader both on the field and in the locker room.

Lewan is an excellent player, and this extension ensures that the Titans will have a stud LT protecting Mariota’s blind side for the foreseeable future.

  9. I’m happy we re-signed him. Yeah that cost some $$$, but you don’t have to look too far out of the division to see what happens to your top drafted QB without a good line.

  10. If you dont know what you’re talking about then why pipe in with a comment. Lewan was hotheaded as a rookie & had some boneheaded plays. That is true. But he was always a very good LT & has only gotten better & has cleaned up his boneheaded plays. He’s now a top 3 LT (probably best LT in the league considering age) & is very much worth this contract. Glad it got done.

  11. Folks talking about Lewan’s attitude. Dude’s a stud & his spirit is a big part of it. I hope he retires a Titan.

  12. One of these days we’re going to be talking about real money. WOW! Unbelievable.

  13. This guy’s a stud and definitely worth the money given to him. He’s matured into one of the best LT’s in the game and with him we’ve got a top 5 O-line here in town. If our offense can develop, look out
