Doug Baldwin: Russell Wilson better than ever before

AP

Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin is dealing with a knee injury that is expected to keep him off the field for much, if not all, of the summer and that’s given him plenty of time to observe the rest of the offense in training camp.

One of the observations that Baldwin has made is a positive one about quarterback Russell Wilson. Wilson may join Baldwin as the rare holdover from the teams that went to two straight Super Bowls, but the wideout believes that his teammate has reached a different level.

“Well, the biggest thing is I think Russell’s better,” Baldwin said, via Michael Dugar of The Athletic. “This is the best I’ve seen Russ since he’s been here. I’m really excited and happy for his progress, because obviously that makes us a lot better. It makes it easier on us.”

Baldwin credits offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer for the growth. He sees Wilson “really being drilled on how to dissect” opposing defenses and how that can benefit the entire offense, including an offensive line that has not performed well in recent years.

Getting Baldwin back to health by the regular season would also benefit the Seahawks and it would probably be a boon to Baldwin’s numbers if he’s right in his read on Wilson.

  1. The off season is the best time for trolls. Reality is that Carroll is a HOF coach and Wilson is an elite quarterback. This team will be well coached and hungry with a proven winner at QB. The demise of the Seahawks is wishful thinking. Carroll took a 7-9 team to the playoffs and beat the defending SB Champions. Love him or hate him, the guy can coach. This year will be no different. Seahawks will win 10+ games and be right in the thick of the NFC playoff picture. Bank on it.

    I realize you are just supporting your team but in all seriousness what teams do you honestly believe the Seahawks will defeat this coming season?

  4. “Seahawks will dominate early and under the radar.”

    This is absolutely hysterical. The Seahawks open in Denver against the Broncos. The Broncos have been very tough in home openers. Russell will be running for his life as Miller and Chubb absolutely dominate the Seahawks’ OL. Schottenheimer will find out that actually you can’t run the ball when everyone knows you’re going to run the ball, especially when your OL sucks and your RB’s aren’t much better.

    Dominate early? They’ll start 0 – 1, getting blown out. It will be the beginning of a long depressing season for Hawks’ fans.

  5. Seattle seems to be getting set up like Green Bay, a great/good qb with nothing talent wise to go with him. Green Bay has Rodgers with very little to compliment him other than receivers: Coaching, RB, OL, DL, defense in general all seem to suck. Wilson is in nearly the same boat.

    Shorter list would be who would beat them.

    Essentially the same team that just missed the playoffs last season.

  7. “Essentially the same team that just missed the playoffs last season”

    MIA, Michael Bennet, Richard Sherman, Jimmy Graham, Paul Richardson, Jeremy Lane, & Deshawn Shead. Not to mention Earl Thomas who hasn’t shown up to camp and probably be traded. What planet do you live on because it sure as hell ain’t earth.

  8. Russel looks the best he ever has in training camp throwing against the worse secondary he as ever faced in training camp…. interesting how that works.

  9. Groupthink….sure gonna make a lotta folks look as ignorant as can be…Seattle should make the playoffs…four and twelve is ridiculous…it’s a team game and once again Seattle will function as a team….with all of the over the hill, egomaniacal rabble-rousers gone it’s now all about ball! We will see!

    OK let’s break it down:

    Broncos (L)
    Bears (W)
    Cowboys (Tossup)
    Cardinals (W)
    Rams (L)
    Raiders (Tossup)
    Lions (L)
    Chargers (Tossup)
    Rams (L)
    Packers (L)
    Panthers (L)
    49ers (L)
    Vikings (L)
    49ers (L)
    Chiefs (L)
    Cardinals (W)

    ———-

    That puts them somewhere between 3-6 wins

    And no, they are not the same team as last year…..their defense is decimated

    Richard sherman missed much of last season, jeremy lane was garbage, Shead is average at best, Michael Bennet had a torn plantar fascia and was ineffective and is a year older now. Bobby wagner carried the defense last year. Earl had some good games, but he’s not getting any younger. Paul Richardson had 700 yards and is one hard tackle away from a season ending injury. P-Rich is a twig. Here on planet earth, we see the young talent that has been waiting for their opportunity. Jimmy Graham, was somewhat effective in the red zone, but you had to force the ball to him and he had a ton of drops including several costly 3rd downs that he did not convert and he can’t block. Hate all you want. They hit rock bottom last year at 9-7 with a bad kicker and two missed kicks away from a wild card birth. The O-Line has new faces this year, a new coach and can’t possibly be worse than they were last year. With Russell’s growth and maturity the Seahawks are trending back up. Niners haven’t beat Seattle in how many years? Where is aaron donald? holding out, and they brought in a bunch of high priced cancers who are old like suh and talib. Cardinals LOL they are garbage and never should have let calais campbell walk because he was their best player hands down. The broncos have a decent defense, but are we supposed to think Case Keenum is going to be a special QB? He’s definitely not as good as Russell Wilson. Keep on bringing the hate though. We love it.

    NHpats heres a more realistic outlook:

    @broncos – tossup
    @bears – W
    cowbowys – W
    @cardinals – W
    Rams – is donald still holding out? Tossup
    Raiders – W
    @Lions – Tossup
    Chargers – Tossup
    @Rams – L
    Packers – W
    @Panthers – Tossup
    49ers – W
    Vikings – Tossup (at home)
    @49ers – Tossup
    Kansas City – W
    Cardinals – W

    Floor is 8 Wins with probably a few more in those toss up games.

    When your second string players become your first string players who do you think he is playing against now? It is not hard to follow.

  15. This season will certainly separate the real fans from the fanboys….if I end up a fan boy, I will be the first to admit it….don’t see it tho….go Hawks!!

  16. Hawks O is going to surprise people this year. RB talent is much better, and for folks that are paying close attention, the O-line has a better look to it than it’s had in years.

    Our LB’s are still very strong (Wagner, KJ, and watch Shaquem have a solid impact), and if we can find one more pass rusher besides Clark, then the D-line has more youth/depth than in prior seasons.

    It’s the defensive secondary that’s the big question to me — esp worried about our CB’s . . .

    If we are going to win 10+ games, the offense needs to possess the ball this year.

  17. So he’s even better than before at ignoring the play call, running around in circles until someone is open, and then blaming the line for not being able to block for a guy whose location they never know.

  18. “Dominate early? They’ll start 0 – 1, getting blown out. It will be the beginning of a long depressing season for Hawks’ fans.”

    That’s ripe. I remember a few years ago when the analysts didn’t think we could score enough to keep up with the Peyton Manning led Broncos in the SB. As I recall the game ended up 43-8 and Denver’s only TD came in garbage time.

    1. Never underestimate your opponent and 2. read #1 again.

  19. Getting rid of Tom Cable is going to be an improvement already. The team had probably the worst pass blocking technique in football and the run blocking the last 3 years was comical.

    Do any of you know why Seattle called a pass on the 1 yard line? Because even with Beast Mode they were getting stuffed on 3rd and 1, 4th and 1 back then.

    If they get one more player on the line to perform at Brown and Britt’s level the line could be serviceable and that’s all Wilson needs.

  20. @Claymus1 If your not sure if you are a fan boy or not, then youre a fan boy through and through. the one true 2012th man
