Troy Aikman supports Dak Prescott’s right to his opinion

AP

Troy Aikman doesn’t know when or if the NFL will resolve the national anthem mess it now finds itself in. He does know Dak Prescott deserves his opinion as much as those protesting during the anthem deserve theirs.

In other words, the Hall of Fame quarterback tiptoed through the anthem debate during the opening of his restaurant, Troy’s, in Arlington, Texas.

“Everyone has their opinion and is certainly entitled to what they feel is best for them — what the flag means to them and what social injustice means to them and how exactly do you protest,” Aikman said Friday, via Jori Epstein of the Dallas Morning News. “Dak came out with his opinion and just like all of the others who have had their opinions, I think it’s good. I think it’s good to share those so maybe we can reach something that makes sense to everyone and get all this figured out.”

Prescott said it is his belief the anthem at NFL stadiums is neither the time nor the place to protest.

The NFL has put its anthem policy on hold as it discusses the issue with the NFLPA. In 14 games so far this week, several players have protested during the anthem, including Marshawn Lynch on Friday night.

“As far as how you resolve this anthem issue, people a lot smarter than me have not been able to figure that out,” said Aikman, Fox’s lead NFL game analyst. “I don’t know. I’m not sure we’ve gotten closer than we got a year ago.”

  1. Nobody cares what a 3rd string quarterback on a last place team has to say. Dak needs to keep quiet and decide who he, Sean Lee and the rest of Garretts Guys are going to railroad next.

  2. Dak is just like his coach Howdy Doody. His opinion is whatever Jerry tells him it is.

Good old Jerrah and his puppet show. Long live “the culture” and Garretts Guys.

2 playoff wins in 20 years, Americas Team!!!

  3. None of this matters. Dak is trash. Threw one in stride to Gallup, but can he maintain that?
    Fan since ’89.
Defense and running game looking great though.

  4. Who really cares?? I am a veteran.I think they look stupid by blaming problems on others. There was 60+ shootings in ChiIraq alone past weekend. Its always someones else fault. But who cares? Let them kneel forever.

  5. I am proud of the stance Jerry Jones took on this issue, from the very beginning! I am also proud of Dak’s stance. JJ had the foresight to realize this would affect his “business”, and offend a minimum of 50 % of the fans. That is why he has always had the acumen to be successful in business. It is a shame the other owners did not have that foresight 😦 I am PROUD of my Cowboys, winning or losing! Furor Goddell is trying to play 2 ends against the middle. Is it any wonder that nothing is ever accomplished, or consistent, when it comes to the NFL???

  6. I see you haven’t gotten the memo, Troy.

Dak doesn’t have a right to an opinion if it doesn’t conform to trendy social justice. In fact, his membership to the “people of color” club gets revoked if he doesn’t get with the program.

That’s the usually how people who whine loudest for “tolerance” operate. It’s only “tolerance” for their own position.

  7. That’s right, we live in a democracy called America and people have a right to free speech, and also non violent protest. You see what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

  8. This is all so stupid. The kneelers don’t even know what they’re protesting. They just have to play the victim. They act upset but actually love it when Trump calls them out. They also don’t want to hear any facts. I have a new respect for Prescott.

  9. We all have our opinions and we should respect those opinions even when they are different from ours. I think we should all step outside and take a few deep breaths and cool it. To fan the flames, so to speak does little good and keeps us from remembering that we are all brothers, sisters, parents and children.

  10. “Prescott said it is his belief the anthem at NFL stadiums is neither the time nor the place to protest.”

That sums it up quite well.

All the players have the right to protest – on their own time.

The NFL needs to tell them that by following the intent of the NFL’s own game day operations manual.

The NFL can stop this overnight by simply changing the word “should” to “must”, and then stick to it, no matter how much the players and the NFLPA cry.

    Problem solved.

Dak also has the right to shut the hell up.
Lets hope he uses it. Dak = Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Wow. Someone’s obviously triggered and cares what Dak thinks.. LOL. So Dak’s a puppet and you’re not? Still a free country, everyone’s got the right to and an opinion.

  12. Being from Compton Ca. I appreciate what KAP initially did. There is too much abuse ,killing and disrespect of black people at the hands of police. If you dont think this is true that’s why this started to bring it to YOUR ATTENTION. People need to understand you dont get to say when someone gets to protest! Again protest should make you uncomfortable if it doesnt it’s not being done right. I BET FOOTBALL, AND LOVE FOOTBALL SO MUCH I CAN NAME THE OFFENSIVE LINE ON EVERY TEAM THATS HOW DEEP I GO! So I’ll meet you half way let’s stop all days! Breast cancer, heart disease, prostate cancer day ALL OF IT!!!! Does anyone disagree? Becasue you may know a person who is affected by those things you think it’s cool to see pink and baby blue on the field in support of those things. But you dont want to hear about the black issue because your not black! Does the NFL still take money from the armed services to do this or have they stopped? Funny thing is most of you people who oppose protesting during the anthem, drink beer, fart ,curse , yell, get food, and go to the restroom during it anyway. Oh and 90% haven’t been to the service cause if you have you would probably be more aware. It’s always my father, cousin ,brother, wife , husband did two tours but rarely the one posting in this forum. Also stop acting like football only has white fans it doesnt! Those black players you watch are not there just to entertain white people! They have family and friends who watch football too. I much rather see the NFLPA and the players get strong enough to fight for guaranteed money and benefits for retired players but something has to been done about blackballing players too. Protest is as american as football. Ask some of your daughters and moms who are protesting against the treatment of women currently or wait is it a time and place for that as well? Hahahaha the hypocrisy is crazy! Bottom line check your racist, superior , onle me attitude when you look in the mirror and ask yourself are you open to hear someone else’s issues before you say what is or isn’t if not you will never get it!.

  13. Dak is entitled to his opinion, just like everyone else in the NFL is…just because you don’t agree with it doesn’t make it wrong.

  14. The players protesting quite obviously don’t care about their “cause”. If they really did, they would have already figured out, its not working, and would figure out something else.

As I read your comments,I was thinking,”What a voice of reason;finally, someone people can see has a well written articulate style.A non-aggresive approach to a delicate situation.

And then I look at 3 thumbs up and 20 thumbs down and I literally threw my hands up to the sky in disbelief. My friend(the author)great write and you are wasting your time trying to have rigid people open their minds and see someone elses perspective.

  16. I cannot help but chuckle at someone who calls Dak a “3rd stringer” just because he has the “audacity” to think for himself and not go along with the group.
