Raiders not slamming door on possibility of Khalil Mack trade

At a time when the Rams and Aaron Donald are on the verge of a record-setting deal, the Raiders and Khalil Mack could be on the verge of a possible divorce.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Raiders haven’t slammed the door on the possibility of trading the 2016 defensive player of the year. That said, the Raiders are being coy with the teams that have inquired.

Recent reports have indicated as many as a dozen teams kicking tires on a possible trade. Four teams, we’re told, are exploring the possibility very seriously.

Whether a deal happens hinges on large part on whether a team can make the Raiders happy with compensation and Mack happy with whatever will be offered financially. With Donald possibly getting to $22 million per year, Mack may want at least that much, if not more.

Trade or no trade, the Raiders and Mack remain locked in a bizarre impasse. He’s one of the best defensive players in the league, but Mack hasn’t gotten any offers from the team since February. At this point, the Raiders may simply be waiting to see whether Mack is willing to skip regular season game checks, which will exceed $814,000 per week.

Or the Raiders may be waiting for a trade offer that makes them willing to move on from a player who may already have a permanent chip on his shoulder when it comes to new Raiders coach Jon Gruden, who currently holds the keys to the coffers.

  1. Trade him. We could get a bounty for him. I don’t think he wants to come back next year after he sees the Raiders sign Derrick Johnson, DRC, Leon Hall, Tahir Whitehead, Jordy Nelson before we offer him anything. Sad front office we have here.

    He is a 3-4 linebacker in a 4-3 defense as a D end…

For Macks sake and ours, trade him.

  2. It’s obvious the Raiders are broke and can’t afford him. Just looking for the best deal.

  3. A trade of Khalil Mack would be supremely moronic and would set the Raiders back even further for years. And if the Raiders got the same kind of boatload of draft picks that Dallas did in the Herschel Walker deal, the value of the collective haul wouldn’t amount to what Mack currently does on the field. I’d think differently if the Raiders had someone with Jimmy Johnson’s draft intelligence in charge of the draft but Gruden has a track record that’s far below average in draft pick selection.

That’s why I’m hoping that Son-of-Al will sell the team (perhaps forced to by the financial situation). Loyalty to a football team doesn’t require respect for the inept ownership.

  5. The Raiders are in perfect position. Khalil Mack is perhaps the best defensive player in the league. They could collect enough in a trade to set themselves up for the next decade. They’ve also demonstrated their ability to find awesome defensive players in the middle rounds. They don’t really need Mack. Gruden is changing the culture in Oakland, and he’s looking for players who love the game of football. By staying away, Mack has proven that he’s not really interested in winning. I’d say the pressure is on Mack’s agent. He tried forcing the Raiders’ hand, and it appears to be backfiring on his client. Ouch!

  6. I do not want the Packers giving both our first round picks in 2019 for him, but if Gute can swing a deal for one 2019 first and a third for him. Then pick him up.

We know Gute is in talks with the Raiders, but he is not going to pay the Raiders a “bounty” for him.

I am good with the OLB’s we have in Clay Matthews, Nick Perry, and Reggie Gilbert. Mack would be a nice addition, but it would have to be for a deal advantageous to Green Bay or we out✋

  7. tdubdizzle I think the reason Mack hasn’t been dealt is because they can’t get a blunt for him. Draft picks are cost controlled and teams aren’t willing to give up a ton of high picks because they would still have to sign Mack to a huge deal and without draft picks to fill out your roster that’s where you end up with salary cap issues and a roster lacking depth.

  8. Greed. I’m all about making money wile you can but 22 mil. A year? That just handcuffs a team. You think he would say i don’t need 22 a year. I can live and have everything I wanted. This is why the raiders can’t bring in anymore talent. Trade the greedy bum. He’s all about himself.

  9. Well atleast yall waited a few days since the last Mack trade article.

Raiders have the ability to sign him now if they wanted, aint hard to move around the money. Theyre gonna wait till next offseason though: Penn and Lynch’s money will be off the books and Raiders are gonna have top 5 most cap room come May iirc.

Only the Packers have the ammunition to even acquire Mack right now and theyre notoriously stingy with draft picks and money so thats not gonna happen.

Mack will be a Raider for the next few years, hop off the hype train already.

That’s the end of this article.

  11. Earl Thomas for Mack. Swap around some 1s for maybe 2s etc. Make ET the highest paid safety and let the Hawks pay Mack like Von Miller. Worth the $$$ and both sides need a change of scenery. Go Hawks!!!

  12. It would be foolish to trade Mack for a bunch of unknown draft picks. Elite pass rushers are game changers and hard to find. That said, I hope he departs the AFC West!

  13. Trade him, their defense is getting better every game..Look at their game stats..Paul Guenther Is a really good DC and it’s showing..They drafted well and are a far better coached team this year..Get picks and a backup QB ..Trade him to Carolina for Luke and their backup QB and picks..

I’mm willing to bet that you said the same thing about Joey Bosa when he was holding out, now you will go as far to say that he is as good or getting better then Mack,

and what exactly is backfiring for Mack
the Raiders are going to offer Mack a contract similar or better then Donalds contract
    or
he is going to get traded to a team that will give him a contract similar or better then Donalds contract

just before this happens how about a 7th round pick Obi Melifonwu a 2017 2nd rounder ( so you can replace Thomas) and a few Practice squad players for Bobby Wagner

see what I did their , that’s is as close to happening as the post you must made.
You could not get a 2nd from the Cowboys for Thomas and now you think he is worth more then a 1st rounder?

  16. Mack will not be getting traded nor is he in a position to be called greedy. Mack’s got the same agent as Donald and Donald has been in search of a LT contract for a couple years now. Once Donald signs, expect some development on Mack. He’s the centre piece of the Raiders defence and what most people are clearly not understanding is that he is still under contract as of this year and the Raiders hold all the chips. Mack won’t risk losing reg season cheques.

Would it be nice if he was with the team learning the new defence? Absolutely. Are you concerned that the man can miss all preseason and forget how to rush a QB? Absolutely Not.

Donalds camp is close on a new deal, so everyone including Florio (who sounds like a 13 year old girl throwing out speculation on the daily), can hold they’re breath. Mack and Donald will be playing against each other week 1, book it.

  17. The fools out here stating we cant afford Mack. If we can pay out coach 100 mil, we can afford our boy Mack. We either get 2 first rounders or Mack will be demolishing AFC West qbs in the near future.

    ///////////////////////

Well then you “out”. What a goof ball.🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

  19. 2 1sts for Mack? I’d do it in a heart beat. The odds are that only one of those firsts will be any good. In Mack you already know you are getting one of the best defensive players in the league

Consider it done. But I think Oakland is trying to squeeze more from GB than that.

  20. Mega contracts for defensive players rarely work out to the advantage of the team.

Mack is a great player but with in the cap era, I’d rather have 3-4 good players than one excellent pass rusher.

  21. Mack isn’t going anywhere. He will be in the Silver and Black for many years to come. Whether he signs long term or we franchise him for a year or two. Either way, nothing will get done until he reports. Besides, Reggie doesn’t negotiate with players when they aren’t in the building/camp…see Penn last year.
As for Mark selling the team…good luck with that. Sure we may be one of the smaller market teams in the league but we will be in the Top 5 with the move to Vegas as well as the stadium deal he struck. He is one of many owners of the Raiders with controlling interest (and not the majority owner) so any owner who would come in would still have to answer to the rest of the silent owners.
I absolutely love the hate…keep it coming children.

When you look at their game stats, make sure that you remember these stats are only preseason, against 2nd and 3rd teams. Don’t get all happy over there about our improving defense. I agree that we have some good players, but let’s wait and see what happens against 1st team. Either way, sign Mack!

The thing is, we have a chance to have the excellent player AND the 3-4 good players all on the same team! No brainer!

  24. The idea of a trade to GB makes perfect sense.

The Packers have a HUGE need for an improved defense and LB is probably the weakest part of the D.

They have the 2 first round picks to make it happen and have enough cap space to get the deal done.

    But it won’t.

They have a PRIMA DONNA DIVA QB,that has two full years left of what was an NFL record contract.

Said QB is forcing (passive/aggressively) the Packers to create a new contract that will:

    1. Make him the highest paid player in NFL history (again)

    2. Include the highest guaranteed money in the history of the NFL

    3. Give him an opt out clause if anyone ever signs a bigger deal

It’s all about the diva in GB.

  25. 32assassin says: I’mm willing to bet that you said the same thing about Joey Bosa when he was holding out,
    **********************
You would have lost that bet because I thought the Chargers were wrong to not sign Bosa right away. But you’ve got Jack Tatum stuff going, so I know we’re on the same side. I’m not worried. Gruden has it under control. This is going to be a great decade for Raiders! Maybe the best dynasty ever.

  26. Hey raiders210, they should just trade Mack to philly for Nick foles straight up. Sound’s fair to me. And Mack could join the best d-line in the league and have a shot at a ring.

    Brandon graham>Khalil mack

  27. He is a great player and sure you could say he didnt do anything last year but that may not have been his choice. Ken Norton jr would run the same defensive play almost every snap he never moved mack around. It seemed like the old staff tried to make him fit when it shouldnt have been. When they had him stand up or move from side to side mack had success making a play. After KNJ was fired, seemed like mack had more freedom. I really would like to see how the new dc and staff would use him, but who am I to say.

  28. i like this because the player is not the team. If he were, he’d been signed a long time ago by Oakland.

  29. Raider fans don’t get your panties in a bunch. I’m just trolling that chump raiders210 who wants to jump on almost every eagles article and talk trash about the eagles and foles. It just shows hes a lame chump and a hater. It’s not like we’re division rivals or have some rivalry. He’s clearly not happy where he’s at in his life and probably needs a hug.

  31. 32assassin,Just heard obis still a raider because no team wanted him. Maybe that trade actually has a chance!!

  32. Mack is a top 5 defensive player but Paul Guenther is a very good DC and 22M in 1 non QB player is way too much, it makes sense to trade him for a couple of 1st rounders

Nobody claimed him because he is going to spend the majority of the season on IR, If a team took him they would be responsible for the remainder of his guaranteed rookie contract. he will either spend the 2018 season on the Raiders IR and get paid or he might get cut with an injury settlement and try to catch with another team.

my point was to show how ridiculous some posters sound when they make a ridiculous (boarder line stupid) trade offers by only sending scrubs and non premium picks for an Elite Player

not saying Thomas is a scrub but his trade value is no where near Macks trade value. And I would take 26 year old Thomas in a heart beat but Thomas will be 30 at the start of the 2019 season, why would anyone make a 30 year old safety the highest paid at his position. That title will more then likely go to Landon Collins.

  34. Someday soon Mack will get his deal and all of this will be exposed an unnecessary speculation and media fabricated hype.
And if Amari has a big year he’s gonna have to get paid too. Not the worst problems to have – players who are at or near the best at their positions are always going to want to get paid that way too.

    RN4L

  35. THe Raiders are playing wait and see – because they can. THe issue is likely the guaranteed money. For players, the owner has to set aside a large portion of that money up front. Raiders would prefer to wait until they get to Vegas.

They can tag him next year and still avoid the set aside.

The question they need answered is whether Mack will forego real paychecks or if he’ll come in week 1 like LeVeon does. IF its the latter, they may trade. But if its the former, no harm no foul. Mack will play hard when he returns.
