Bills announce Nathan Peterman will start Week One

The Buffalo Bills have their starting quarterback: Nathan Peterman.

Peterman, the second-year player who struggled as a rookie but looked good this year in preseason, was officially announced as the Bills’ starting quarterback this morning.

The Bills drafted Josh Allen and were considering giving him the starting job, but Peterman looked better over the summer and appears more likely to perform well early, when the Bills have a tough September schedule.

Allen is the Bills’ quarterback of the future, but Peterman is the starter on Sunday when the Bills take on the Ravens in Baltimore.

  1. He played incredibly well in the preseason. He earned it for sure. He also played with first second and third stringers, elevating their play while he was out there. He isn’t the long term solution, but he is perfectly capable of keeping the car warm until Allen is ready.

  2. Whenever I read headlines about this Bills QB I just think Seinfeld. “You most likely know it as Myanmar, but it will always be Burma to me”.

  3. Hahahahahaha!! This franchise is such a joke. These losers fans were begging for Mack when that dump of an organization could have already had him and since they don’t and haven’t had a framcise qb since Kelly they could have afforded him

  4. Seems like Buffalo is angling for a high draft slot next year… But it seemed the same last year and they surprised.

    Will be an interesting team to follow.

  5. Should’ve kept Tyrod – he would have only cost $16M for 2018 and they only got a 3rd rd pick for him. Not much help for a team in permanent rebuild mode.

  6. Earned the start. He looked good through the whole preseason. Locker room supports him. Seems to have a good grasp of the new OC’s schemes and plays and makes throws that Tyrod Taylor only talks about.

  7. I know this may surprise many, but let’s let this play out. Nate had an 85% completion percentage in the preseason and is better and quicker at reading defensive schemes and exploiting mismatches than Tyrod, Allen, and McCarron. His quick release and timing throws will help the revamped O-line.

  8. This year’s Bills remind me of a classic Kramer Seinfeld line when talking about his girlfriend who is crippled: “she has everything I ever wanted in a woman… except for the walking”.

    Bills have a nice team outside of the QB situation. But it’s a QB driven league so another long year in northern NY.

  9. Hoping he can make it through at least week 3 without being injured as Allen will be murdered by Vikings defense.

    We need to get a 3rd QB as we already had two QBs leave with injuries in pre-season as our Guards are looking like turnstyles against 1st team defenses… not a surprise we only scored points in 2nd half of pre-season games (when defensive starters were out).

  10. It’s mildly humorous, but only because of that one really, really horrid game. The kid ain’t ready yet, which isn’t surprising, so this is the move.

  11. .
    The Bills opening schedule:

    @Balt
    Chargers
    @Minn
    @GB
    Tenn
    @Hou
    @Indy
    NE
    Chicago
    @Jets
    Jaguars

    It’s hard to find a lot of victories there.

    Raiders fan calling the bills franchise a joke. That’s rich, especially after this past weekend. Enjoy AJ, you best-defensive-player-dealing garbage…

    Loser fans? Joke of a franchise?
    You do realize that your genius of a head coach gets paid 100M, But your team wouldn’t pay their best player… right? Free Agents now know that the Raiders will not pay out to those that play above and beyond, So good luck with that!

  14. “It appears you will not be accompanying me to Africa. I’m afraid it’s your urine, Elaine. You tested positive for opium. That’s right, Elaine. White lotus. Yam-yam. Shanghai Sally.”

  15. Everyone outside of Buffalo only knows Peterman as the 5 interception guy, whereas us here in Buffalo seen him come out and play decent in the snow game against the Colts, and has been consistently good this preseason. I hope Peterman redeems himself Sunday and silences the naysayers, please do take the Ravens defense in your leauge and we will see what happens.

  16. I know all the amateur comedians are enjoying this now and hey its all good.

    But, I heard a lot of the same last year and then their rookie coach rode that pathetic organization to the playoffs. Next year who knows what a 100 mil in cap space will bring?

  17. Im a seasoned Chargers fan. What do I expect Peterman to do in week two. I expect him to light up the Chargers defense. Just watch. That will buy him a few more weeks as the starter even if he looks like crap against everyone else.

  18. This is a smart move by taking a lot of pressure off of Allen. It is better to have Peterman fail early instead of Allen. If Peterman struggles, even if they have to bring Allen in for the 3rd quarter of the opener,I have to believe Allen will do a lot better even if he makes mistakes.

  19. And pats fans try to spit stats to convince us they haven’t been playing I. A cupcake division for 20 years.

    last time I checked the Bills sell out every game and have remained in the same city since 1960.

  21. The J. Peterman jersey. Slick, iceberg blue,with numbers large enough to be seen from the Adirondacks. Perfect for a crisp fall day in Buffalo, win, lose, or draw. 100% rayon, with ribbed collar. Interceptions not included.

    3-2 in SBs will always be better than 0-4 with a wide right, but at least you got there, right?

  23. 80-freakin-%. thats what he completed, 83. freaking. percent.

    Preseason results are close to meaningless, but c’mon. If a guy throws 80-freakin-% in extended preseason action, dont you gotta give him a shst at starting?

    ive literally never heard of a qb with 80-freakin-% in the preseason with his number of snaps. thats phenomenal even if the entire offense consisted entirely of my mom and her friends

    josh has immense talent, including a rocket and amazing agility for his size. and hes big, huge by qb standards. but he needs time to work on the problems in his game without the pressure of real starting prep

    fortunately theres a surprising new option: 80-freakin-%

  24. No matter who the Bills named starter, people would have said it was the wrong move.

    If they go with Allen instead, the narrative would have been “oh they are rushing him”.

    Peterman won the job fair and square. He was buffalo’s best QB all offseason/preseason.

    Good luck Nate! We are all pulling for you.

  25. Everyone claimed they were throwing in the towel last offseason when they made multiple trades and cuts of players shortly before the season started.

    And made the playoffs for the first time in 18 years.

    If I were a Bills fans I’d trust the people running the team now a heck of a lot more than anybody else this millenia.

  26. Peterman was a tremendous QB at Pitt. He will likely be a good NFL QB. And there is no reason he couldn’t be their long-term starter if he continues to play well.

    At least the Bills are not paying $25M a year to a stiff who cannot win a postseason game.

    Andy Dalton 1.02

  28. Raider fans calling the Bills a joke is cute. You wanna talk about a Super Bowl from 1983? Ok pal…. let’s be honest, since what the 90’s. 2000’s. Late 2000’s, heck the last few years we’re about equal and we have a better season record. Plus we have a better coach and front office now… so while you squander away whatever talent Carr has and overpay a coach h who’s best are well behind him, we’ll continue to build and hey last years3-13 turned into playoffs. New staff, new management same city. More to look forward to than anything the Raiders have

  29. Of course Peterman gets the call.
    He moved the ball. Preseason or not, he won it. Offensive coordinator may actually know what he’s got and knows the limits his qb may have.
    The o-line had better keep him on the field cause it didn’t look like Allan is ready just yet.
    Glad they aren’t in Toronto!
