Carson Wentz throws three touchdowns as Eagles roll to 34-13 win over Giants

The Philadelphia Eagles looked like a team capable of defending their Super Bowl victory on Thursday night against the New York Giants.

Carson Wentz threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns as the Eagles cruised to a 34-13 victory over the Giants.

Philadelphia jumped on top quickly as Eli Manning was intercepted on the second play from scrimmage by linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill. Three plays later, Wentz hit Alshon Jeffery for a 13-yard touchdown to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead. It was an advantage they’d never come close to relinquishing.

While the Eagles were cruising up and down the field, the Giants offense could barely do anything unless Saquon Barkley or Odell Beckham Jr. were making defenders miss in open space.

But boy did Barkley look special in his chances for the Giants. He had over 200 yards from scrimmage and scored on a 50-yard touchdown run for New York’s only touchdown of the night.

Barkley carried 13 times for 130 yards and a touchdown and caught nine passes for 99 yards for the Giants. He was one receiving yard shy of becoming just the second player since 2011 to have a 100-yard rushing and 100-yard receiving game. Todd Gurley rushed for 118 yards and had 158 receiving yards for the Los Angeles Rams against the Tennessee Titans on Christmas Eve last year.

After Jeffery’s early touchdown, Corey Clement scored on a 1-yard run late in the first quarter and Wentz hit Zach Ertz for a 10-yard touchdown in the second quarter as the Eagles built a 21-6 lead around a pair of Aldrick Rosas field goals for New York. Jake Elliott added a 33-yard field goal for Philadelphia with 1:29 left in the first half to give the Eagles a 24-6 halftime advantage.

Wentz and Jeffery connected again on a 1-yard touchdown to push the lead to 31-6 on the opening drive of the third quarter.

Barkley would get into the end zone on a terrific run bouncing a carry backside and running by Nigel Bradham and Rasul Douglas for a 50-yard touchdown to make it a 31-13 game.

Elliott would later add a 30-yard field goal to cap the Eagles victory.

Manning completed 24 of 43 passes for 281 yards with an interception for the Giants. Rosas’ two field goals were from 33 and 21 yards.

  1. The iggles are the giants daddy ,secondly,,1-5 an absolute abomination,I was never for Shurmur never will be For Shurmur this is horrible ,they let a team that wasn’t playing that well get somewhat right on them a disgrace horrible horrible horrible

  2. If this was a gladiator contest in the Rome Coliseum, Saquon Barkley would be the only one getting a thumbs up from the Emperor.

Everyone else on the Giants would have been executed.

  3. “Giants offense could barely do anything unless Saquon Barkley or Odell Beckham Jr. were making defenders miss in open space“

OBJ 6 catches for 44 yds. Outside of Barkley, the Giants offense was awful. Not sure what game this guy was watching

  4. Pat Shurmer is probably a good guy, but not a good coach. Eli has 2 Bowl wins, and his legacy is cemented, but he’s finished. I really love the idea of John Mara squirming in his $4k pajamas in the palace his father’s money has built. Let him rot.

  5. 6 weeks into a season and your done ,,i honestly can’t take looking at Eli’s face anymore it’s over please end it

  6. If the New York giants ever start Eli against the iggles again they need to stop being in the football business

  7. Is it quite possible that we are all being fooled as giants fans ,fooled in the sense that Beckham may not really be all that good ?…..

  8. Barkley is a very likely future HOF’er….too bad the first couple of years of his career will be spent on a losing team with an old QB who is now totally gutless….and the next couple of years will be spent on a losing team that has a young QB trying to learn the game. Hopefully by his 5th year the Giants are legit again. Im a Giants fan since 1979.

  9. Fly Eagles Fly…looks like the offense is starting to get their feet back under them. Wentz is looking as if he’s getting comfortable and his timing and rhythm back. All those trolls who said he wasn’t going to come back and be good…lmao @ u! bwahahahahhahahahhaha

  10. I feel bad for Shurmur. I don’t believe he is as bad of a coach as his record says on the Giants. When you hire two head coaches after Coughlin and still suck, the problem lies elsewhere. They need a culture change, the team sucks on both sides of the ball.

  11. I’m not going to jump on the Eli is done train.

Outside of OBJ, NY has no receivers that can get open. That allows D’s to double team OBJ so all Eli is left with is checkdowns to Barkley.

Utter lack of talent outside of OBJ and Barkley.

Giants should have traded OBJ and started a full on rebuild this year. Now they are a team in rebuild with a very overpriced receiver who could have been converted to other need assets.

  12. I know the Giants got down in the first half but why did Barkley only get 13 carries and Eli had 43 pass attempts. What a terrible balance in play calls especially when it’s lopsided towards the guy who hasn’t produce in a single game this year in Eli.

  13. The Giants’ OL is terrible. It looked like a jailbreak time after time. Aikman said it looked like the NYG’s defense quit. How can they win with a diva like ODB? I feel bad for the head coach. They should have traded ODB so they don’t have to put up with his antics. It makes the organization look bad.

  14. McAdoo wasn’t wrong. Shurmer can’t fix the ME first attitude going on. Odell and Apple might be talented but, I’m glad they’re not on my team. They’re that bad attitude guy at work who drags the whole crew down.

  15. Funny how most commenters are heaping on Beckham, as a wideout u are only as good as your QB, and clearly Eli stinks. I would rather have someone who is passionate and wants to win than someone who doesnt care, Hey Albert..

  16. I don’t think Eli threw one pass that went further than 5 yards. You can’t spell “Checkdown Charlie” without “Eli Manning”, and adding and subtracting a few letters.

  17. If I were the Giants, I’d feed that RB the rock every chance I got. I would invent ways to feed him the rock. Their O-line is non-existent, and is useless for an aging QB. For what I saw, their receivers were underachievers. Saw a bunch of guys dancing out of bounds instead of diving for a first down. Of course that is when they actually got the ball, because their QB had about .08 seconds to throw it. The only talent they have on offense is that RB. Better figure out how to make him the central point of the offense. They’re not good enough to have a complicated offense to compete with the better teams. Go with what you got.

  18. To many ppl on here that dont know football, Eli is a really good QB, but he cant be a QB if he has 3 defenders on him as the ball is snapped on every play, when he has time in the pocket, he has picked tram apart, he is not top 10 in passing yards for no reason. And on another note, the giants WR’s are 2nd to last in the league at creating separation, and 3rd in dropped passes. Eli is not the problem, he just needs more help.

  19. Not sold that Shurmer is the right coach. Some head coaches should have just stayed coordinators. Although, no coach is going to look good when your offensive line is non-existent. Meanwhile, Manning may be past his prime, but he hasn’t forgot how to do the job. He needs better o-line play than what he’s getting just so he can get an extra second or two to find a reciever. Hmm…I’m sensing a common theme with the Giants… O-Line stinks like a NY dumpster fire.

  20. Only bright spot in the G-Men these days is the kid RB Barkley. Too bad he is playing on a not so good team. Time for Eli Manning to retire. Eli love ya and you have already your two Super Bowls. May not be a surprise if G-Men draft a QB in 2019.

  21. Barkley is the best back in the league, but he’s also proving a very important point. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that the best way to help a QB is by getting a great RB. Barkley doesn’t play defense. Also, the worst kept secret in the world right now is that Eli is finished.

Vikings found out about Pat Shurmer, he totally blew off the game plan with the Eagles and Vikings! He had already moved on.. NOT a professional! At least the Vikings have an OC that works with what he has! Now it is on Rick Speilman to realize he needs an offensive line too!

  23. As good as Barkley is, and to be fair he does look like a generational talent, I think its very difficult to be successful now with an offence centred on the running game. The Giants future is still dependent on who follows on from Manning.

  24. McAdoo was correct to bench Manning but took the fall for it. Manning has never been a great statistical QB. He is very streaky, even leading the league in INTs a few times. The fact is when he was younger he had much more talent around him that could overcome his limitations. The roster today is much worse and Manning has gone from average to almost Johnny Manziel.

No it’s mostly just that the Giants are terrible, absolutely terrible.

  26. Slow your roll “repeat” fans, this was the Giants. Who are clearly the worst team in the league.

You’re 3-3 and THIS…is your signature win. The good news is, you may be able to win your horrible division at 8-8.

Really? What tipped you off? Is it their 1 and 5 record? The total disarray in the locker room?

  28. Unlike Zeke, teams are going to let Barkley run. They don’t care if he runs all day.

They aren’t going to let Eli and Odell beat them. The Eagles played a defense that shut down all giants receivers. Great plan by Schwartz for a change. Let Barkley run.

Now when we play Zeke there will be 8 in the box. Dak can’t even beat himself.

I hope you all noticed when Troy said the Giants plan is to have Eli “around” for the next 2-3 years! But hey, that means 2-3 years of picking too 5 and taking the wrong guy.

Sorry Saquan but your first three to four years you’re on your own! Good game for him.

Actually for Eagles fans, Eli’s face is a delight. He perpetually looks dumb and confused…it’s awesome. I’m honestly gonna miss that when he retires. Remember coughlin’s beet red angry face? He and Eli in the same game…. aaaaahhh those were the days…

  31. The Giants hitching their wagon to Eli for another year is a Redskins-like move. As in, a stupid move made by people who have no clue about football. And I saw that as a fan of the Washington franchise. Eli has been done since last year. Instead of letting him go elsewhere or retire, they reinstate him and take a frigging running back #2. In an era where passing is all the rage and RBs are literally a dime a dozen. That sounds like when the Skins gave Donovan McNabb a new contract when everybody knew he was done.

  32. I should have been a gambler. I figured 1-5 at this point with the only win being Houston. Shurmer looks as lost as McAdoo and the team is just not very good or disciplined.

  33. Get prepared Giants fans, this dumpster fire isn’t going to end for awhile. There are no qbs worth the #1 pick in this draft. Sure, they are going to try to convince you that Herbert is, but he’s a project. I’m noyt sure there are any top 10 worthy OL in this draft either. This is definitely not the draft for you. If you are lucky, someone really wants Bosa bad and you can trade down for draft capital.

  34. Peter Holmes I would love to remind you I also loved seeing Andy Reid’s and Donavan McNabbs face after they coughed up another playoff game ,,I miss those days also !

  35. You’re saying the Eagles are “back in form” after beating the Giants???? Well, the Little Sisters of the Poor could’ve given the Eagles a better game than the current edition of the Giants.

  36. I would just like to caution iggles fans don’t think your on your way because you beat the NY FOOTBALL GIANTS

  37. “The Philadelphia Eagles looked like a team capable of defending their Super Bowl victory on Thursday night”

Pulease, the Eagles have looked like crap all year and they were only playing the Giants, so let’s keep it real. Until they play and handily beat a decent team, then they aren’t a team capable of defending their Super Bowl title.

Pulease…the eagles first four games were like preseason games. They needed to get acclimated to playing with each other again. The midgets were the perfect spring board. The midgets gave the Saints all they could handle so it’s not like they are a push over. The Eagles are back baby!

To everyone else out there saying this win means nothing for the Eagles because of how bad the Giants are, you clearly have very sort football memories. Last year the 61-yd game-winning FG over the Giants is the game that propelled the 2017 Eagles forward towards their eventual SB title. Last year’s Giants team wasn’t lighting up the world either. Divisional games you can usually throw out the records, these teams always play one another tough. The record and “quality” of the G-Men doesn’t matter. All that matters is whether a team can take motivation from a big win and carry it forward. The Eagles were able to do that last year following their win over the Giants. Hopefully they can do something similar this year.
