Golden Tate to Albert Wilson: You aren’t best after catch after five or six games

Dolphins wide receiver Albert Wilson declared himself the league’s best receiver in terms of gaining yards after the catch this week and his work so far this season has made a good case for his abilities on that front.

Lions wide receiver Golden Tate has shown his ability on that front since his days in Seattle and he’ll be on the opposite side of the field from the Dolphins this Sunday. That made it all but inevitable that Tate would field a question about Wilson’s boast when he met with the media this week.

Tate complimented Wilson’s play, but pointed to the different track records — Wilson has 147 career catches while Tate has had at least 90 in each of the last four seasons — as a way of suggesting that any crowning is premature.

“I mean he’s really good,” Tate said, via the Detroit News. “He had a really good game last week, especially yards after the catch. He’s talented. He’s a really, really, really good player. … You don’t get that title after five games, six games. I let the people decide.”

That decision won’t lead to any points on the scoreboard for either the Dolphins or Lions, but both players are capable of making plays that could and doing so would likely swing the argument in their direction by the time the day is out..

  1. Tates a boss, very underrated. And he doesnt just get YAC by running either, he’ll break a tackle or two a fight for as many yards as possible.

  2. Albert should really just shut up. He’s been in the league 5 years and has exactly 2 games with 100 yds receiving.

  3. Tate is right. The young guys need to talk less and continue to perform. That leads to greatness.

  4. Regardless, I am just glad we signed Albert. Can’t say as anyone in Miami is missing Jarvis right about now.

  5. Albert Wilson has 1,903 total yards since 2014
Golden Tate has 2,582 in YAC alone since 2014. (According to ESPN, so take that for what it’s worth)

I want to say yes, but the answer is probably no. But the reason for that no is that MIA didn’t know how to use him and he really hasn’t had a QB to throw to him. MIA isn’t as good as their record.

  7. Tate can be a little too hotdog-ish for my tastes, but he sometimes makes foos look stupid in the open field.

  8. The first person that must believe something is you. IF Albert feels this way then good for him. No harm or foul done. Carry on kids.

  9. Tate is only a top 20 WR in the one Lions fan mind that post under 50 different names on here. Tate isn’t even a top 20 WR, he’s the trash squad Lions best player. It’s like being the smartest person with Downs Syndrome.

The Lions have 3 solid wrs, one of the best trios in the NFL. Also, you could have gone with better analogy than you did. It makes you look like an insensitive fool.

  11. Lions were pretty worthy talented team but Matthew Stafford has more than stats since 2006. One replied said Lions have 3 solid WR’s? Really? But only Golden Tate were leading on this team than other few WR’s. Golden was a locker room cancer from Seattle since Russell Wilson era.

Albert Wilson is the future of Miami Dolphins as a proved to be true and improvement WR.

After the catch, yes, I would agree. His problem over the years has been his hands. For a possession receiver he drops too many contested catches. He’s great at YAC and has been pretty good at returning, but he drops too many passes in my humble opinion.
