Jalen Ramsey: “Ain’t no secret what’s going on and it ain’t right”

Losing their fourth game in five was frustrating enough for the Jaguars.

But when word of a post-game scuffle in the locker room got out, it was impossible to hide the truth — the Jaguars are tired of the way things are going.

Specifically, the defense is feeing the pressure of having to carry an offense that can’t do anything in the absence of Leonard Fournette and with the return of Bad Blake Bortles.

Defensive end Yannick Ngakoue didn’t talk to reporters after having to be held back from something by Calais Campbell (before locker room doors were closed to reporters), and cornerback Jalen Ramsey admitted that they’re a mess right now.

“You all walk in here, you all see how it is in here, you all see how we vibe with each other, you all see how we vibe towards the coaches, you all see how it is. It is no secret what’s going on here right now,” cornerback Jalen Ramsey said, via Daniel Popper of The Athletic. “Ain’t nobody going to say it because we can’t, but it ain’t no secret what’s going on and it ain’t right right now. It is what it is.”

Others tried to spin the frustration as a positive.

“Me personally, I appreciate it, because at the end of the day, that’s all because we didn’t win,” linebacker Myles Jack said. “Everyone wants to win in this locker room. Everyone wants the same thing. So I don’t take nothing from it. The game just ended. Emotions are high. Everybody’s pissed off. We’ll come back tomorrow and fix it. We’ll be all right.”

This isn’t some general anger, either. Their defense was gashed a week ago by the Cowboys, but the general trend of them having to carry the team continues, and there’s no denying it.

Bortles is an easy scapegoat after yesterday’s benching, but their problems run deeper than just one player, and the strain of trying to keep it together is clearly wearing on them.

  1. Good to know Jalen Ramsey is still playing, haven’t seen him make a play and haven’t heard him talk.

  2. They already won their Super Bowl on week 2…… the season was over after that!!!!
Remember when they beat the Pats & all was good….. yeah, where are those teams now??!!

  3. Well Jaguars, you have my beloved Eagles next in London. As of now, you all may have the cure to your ills, at least for a week as my beloved Eagles have turned into fourth quarter choke artists. The offense can’t score any significant points and Jim Schwartz plays the corners so far off the LOS it’s an easy 5-10 yard completion before the corner back gets to the receiver. Time for Schwartz to change his scheme/strategy, or he needs to go. Jim Schwartz talks about being a SB defending DC, yet that defense gave up over 500 yards and Brady picked him apart, just like Fitzpatrick did, Mariota did and cam just did in the 4th quarter yesterday.

  4. Bortles a “scapegoat”? No Bortles is a lousy QB. He’s killing the team’s chances. No matter how good your defense, you can’t win consistently with someone that bad at QB.

The meltdown of the team stems almost entirely from that.

  5. Ramsey needs to step back and put things in perspective. He’s got his September 16, 2018 Super Bowl ring as a result of winning the biggest game in team history. These games now can’t take away from that accomplishment. Ramsey and his teammates should ignore the detractors and be proud of what they’ve done.

  6. I certainly can understand the conflict. The offense–more accurately, Bortles–is single-handedly losing these games and with him under center they have ZERO chance to win. Bortles doesn’t care. He signed a 3-year $54M contract so why should he care if they win or lose.

What were the Jags thinking giving him that kind of money. They are stuck with that boat anchor now. They could just get rid of him next year even though they’d take a cap hit. I think at this point they have no choice but to get rid of him. He’s TERRIBLE and he’s shown no indication he’s EVER going to improve. Too bad the Jags didn’t realize that after they watched him the previous four years of sub-par QB play.

Still, it’s hard to feel sorry for Ramsey after all the yapping he did early in the season. Maybe he should have kept his mouth shut. If so, everyone wouldn’t think he’s a tool.

  8. So he does talk a little again! Then say what’s on your mind! No guts? Figures! Bad mouthed everyone and everything in the preseason and now can’t/won’t say what’s wrong with him and his team! Hilarious!

  9. The defense can’t blame the offense – they gave up 40 points to the inept Dallas offense and they gave up 20 points including 130+ yards rushing to a Texans offense with the worst offensive line in the league and an injured QB.
