Saints defensive tackle David Onyemata won his appeal of a fine from the season opener, Herbie Teope of NFL Media reports.
Onyemata’s $40,108 fine for two roughing the passer penalties was reduced.
The league rescinded the $20,054 fine for putting his body weight on Bucs quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, while Onyemata’s helmet-to-helmet hit dropped from $20,054 to $6,250, per Teope.
The reduction is not a surprise.
Onyemata, a fourth-round pick, has a $630,000 base salary this season, making his game check $39,375 each week. The Collective Bargaining Agreement states a fine shouldn’t exceed more than 25 percent of a player’s weekly earnings.
