Saints crush Eagles 48-7 for ninth straight win

The Eagles were the last team standing in the NFC last year, but their chances of making it back to the playoffs took a serious shot on Sunday from the team that’s looking like it might just be the favorite to be the conference’s No. 1 team this time around.

The Saints jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first half and kept pouring it on the rest of the way for a 48-7 win. That’s nine wins in a row for New Orleans and they’ve now scored 144 points over the last three weeks to set a franchise record for a span of that length.

All of the usual suspects starred for the Saints offense on the way to 547 total yards and rookie Tre'Quan Smith continued to show that he fits into that cast of characters. Smith caught 10 passes for 157 yards and one of the four touchdowns that Drew Brees threw over the course of the afternoon. Brees now has 25 touchdowns and one interception on what may be shaping up to be as special a season as he’s had in his brilliant career.

Atlanta will be the next team to try their hand at stopping the Saints and they could have linebacker Deion Jones back in the lineup as they try to pull it off. Chances are that won’t be enough, but perhaps a short week — they play Thanksgiving night –will help Matt Ryan, Julio Jones and company find success against a defense that’s allowed just 14 points during meaningful portions of the last two games.

The Eagles aren’t officially dead at 4-6 and Washington losing a game (and Alex Smith) on Sunday leaves them within two games of the division lead. They looked like a dead team for much of Sunday’s loss, however.

The offense did nothing in the first quarter once again and it’s getting a bit late in the year to continue thinking that they are suddenly going to put it altogether. Doug Pederson may have been trying to buck that prediction by keeping Carson Wentz and the other starters in until the end, but, like everything else for the Eagles on Sunday, it didn’t work.

They’ll face the Giants next Sunday and a loss will leave them with the same record as a team that started 1-7 this year, which pretty well illustrates how much things have gone off track in Philadelphia.

  1. Largest loss by a defending Super Bowl Champion ,,what a disgrace to the Lombardi Trophy !

  2. People listens to me ,,Wents can’t connect on the long ball and DCs have finally figured this out ,,Wents is in trouble !

  3. This offense is scary.

    Especially in the dome.

Not sure who can beat these guys.

Bucs and Panthers the only outdoor stadiums left.

    Yikes!

  5. Saints offense is just a well oiled machine . And their defense has been playing much better.
Going to be touch to beat in the playoffs, especially in that dome.

  6. The narrative of a dynasty has literally never been said by anyone in the eagles fan base. I was a false narrative created by the trolls of this site. They have a lot of old players so I don’t think it would be possible to have a dynasty. But the idiots keep beating this drum.

  7. If this was McNabb he would be getting torched but Wents gets a pass ,,,I wonder why ??

  8. I find it funny the trolls on here ripping a team who won the superbowl last year. Unless your a phony pats fan who are you to talk?! And I could care less about philly

  9. At this point I just want to see the Eagles lose the rest of their games to get better draft picks because this team needs to rebuild and get younger especially on the offensive line.

If your going to comment 47 times on every eagles post then at least spell his name right, it’s starting to get embarrassing

  11. proven big game MVP qb sitting on the bench …. just sayin. I mean he’ll be gone next year so might need to use him for a spark ….you know. might decide to keep the proven player and see what you can get for wentz?

It is so hard to win two supper bowls back to back. Who was the last team to do that

    ———————————————-

Winning two SBs is a difficult task BUT being a competitive defending champ shouldn’t be too hard to ask for, especially with their franchise QB back.

  13. This remark is with all due disrespect for the Philthydelphia Football team and their fans.

    You won one Snooper Bowl.

You are now done. You are toast. You can live in the past because your team is dreadful and has a QB with a single digit IQ and no real talent.

You are fools and you can gloat no more. Your living now where you belong – losers.

  14. Love all the fans taking their shots about “1 and done”, “fluke”. whatever. Is Lane “having fun”? He sure is. He has a ring unlike the players on all the teams that these dopes commenting are fans of.

Lets be real. There are 3 fan bases that have any chance of celebrating at the end of the year and that’s the Rams, Chiefs, and Saints. Everyone else will be watching the celebration so I’m sure the Eagles players will be happy with their “fluke” championship while the fans of the rest of the league wish they could have a “fluke” year.

The Cowboys and Redskins haven’t won in a generation but at least they aren’t a fluke. LOL.

Keep working troll. Next you will point out that something else happened under 30 degrees on a Monday in the third week of November. Seriously who cares? They actually won a Lombardi Trophy. All that matters.

  16. I’m a 50 year eagle fan with season tickets, this was a total embarasement beatdown! no offense defense is brutal They cant get off the field.play so soft I know the defensive backs are coming off the street but to this day i do not know why they dont look back at the pass coming their way . seems like there are always fronting the receiver?plus its always a 3 man rush with no other pressure on the QB. Brees had all day to pass the ball. Can you say its Schwartz’s call/ I do Team is a total wreck on both sides of the ball. what the hell is those little 5 yard checkdown pasess? Still not giving up because the east is still up for grabs but if today was any indication we are toast!!

  17. As crazy as it sounds, the Eagles are still in it now that Washington have lost their starting QB.

    Eags won’t make the playoffs.

  20. Saints seriously missed a good chance to win the SBowl last year. They would have been a tough out if they would’ve gotten past that gaffe in Minn.

  21. Blah…blah…blah. The Eagles have a Lombardi.

Understand that I don’t give a rat’s behind about the Eagles or their crumbie fans…or the NFC East blowholes but, yeah…Super Bowl Champions.

The fact that you went and found that is just, well, sad. And I forgot that Andrew Kulp was the spokes person for the entire fanbase. Sure showed me

  23. The Saints will crush any team in the NFC as the Playoffs will go through NO. To make matters worse the AFC does not even have a team that could keep up with them. The Super Bowl is over and is also going to be in a Dome. The Patriots would not stand a chance and the Steelers barely win and the Texans are just a product of an easy Division and very weak schedule. Maybe the Chiefs? It would be OK with me. Saints look unstoppable.

  24. But I thought Eagles fans had the best coach and team since they are defending Super Bowl Champions.

That quote was just a short scroll-up in this thread. Shrug…

  26. Eagles have set a record for most starting, second, third defensive players in the history of the NFL. That is reality! As an Eagles there is nothing you can do except keep rooting for your team.Eagles fan!

  27. Pats/Seahawks, reg season since 2014 Super Bowl

    Pats- (46-12, .793)
    SEA- 34-23-1, .595)

Pats/Falcons, reg season since 2016 Super Bowl

    Pats- (20-6, .769)
    Falcons- (14-12, .538

Pats/Eagles, reg season since 2017 Super Bowl

    Pats- (7-3, .700)
    Eagles- (4-6. .400)

    It ain’t easy…

  28. Still super bowl champions !!!! Don’t hate cause you aint.
Nick Foles has the same amount of super bowl wins as Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers. Congrats on being November champs. ONCE AGAIN.

  29. Mickey Loomis should get an extension and raise. His drafts, free-agent and trade moves have been monumental.(Sean Payton and Jeff Ireland deserve credit too).
    First-rate football operation.

  30. As an eagles fan, disgusting, embarrassing. This unemotional bunch need to be flushed…. 🚽

  31. Almost everyone in their secondary and half of their skill players were on the street or on the practice squad to start the year. Whatever, it’s not their year. They have lots of draft picks, they’ll be back. And they are still the most recent SB champs, none of you haters can ever take that away. Kudos to the Saints, they look unstoppable, better than the Rams and the Chiefs, as much as I love Andy, always find a way to blow it, so…

  32. Everyone is hyping tomorrow’s Chiefs/Rams game as the game of the year, but I hope they’re not sleeping on the Saints. It’s only my opinion, but I think they are the best team in the NFL. They are focused on another Super Bowl and they have all the tools to get there and win it. It wouldn’t surprise me.

Dude you must be new to watching football. Wentz has played out of his mind this year. He did last year too. Foles is decent too but Wentz is clearly better.

  35. …and the Eagles looked like SB champs today about as much as the Patriots did against the Titans. I think a changing of the guard is coming, and I’m not hating on any team. The Saints just look unbeatable.

  36. Dear Philthydelphia Football team fans,

Did your football team fly away on you?

    Where are your winners?

Where is your superb QB who was all that and a bag of cow chips last year?

Ah, you won a Snoopy Bowl with Nick Foles and a play that featured a sextuplet jump on ice topped with whipped cream and a cherry.

And you know what? All of your winning is a thing of the past – you can look in the rear view mirror and see a team that won, but you can’t look through your windshield and find a winning Philthy team.

It must be so hard on you with one Snoopy Bowl victory – not even good enough to join the Redskins, Cowpokes, or the New York Nightmara Family Crime Syndicate in Snoopy Bowl victories.

Alas, you did win last year. We get it. Now get over it.

one draft may not be enough. he has been putrid for years and that f is nothing special, they just play with huge leads and the other team quits

Belichick had the guts to stick with TB12 once Bledsoe was healthy . Looks like it was too bad the Philly coach didn’t have the guts ( or football smarts) to stick with Foles.

    —————

Tom Brady was playing GOOD football when BILL B. decided to stick with him. Nick Foles was struggling which is why it was easy to go back to Wentz.

  40. The Eagles won it all with Foles, but insisted that Wentz is the man. STUPID. Foles is better!

  41. The eagles are noted for their dumb decisions. Hence the one ring dynasty. The Patriots let the eagles win so they can feel like a winner finally.

  42. Just a few months ago we all thought Doug Pederson was the smartest coach on earth. That’s not on him, that’s on us. We fall for that flavor of the month thing all the time. Last year Drew Brees and the Saints were robbed in the playoffs by a fluke play. Now they’re playing angry. Usually when a QB completes 77% of his passes, he’s a dink and dunker. Brees is the farthest thing from that. He’s playing as well as any QB has played in the last 25 years, and it’s a QB league like never before. The Saints are a lock to win the super bowl.

  43. One and done! The Iggles only further cemented the fact they they are paper champs after this severe rear-end whipping. The Largest loss EVER by a “defending” SB Chumps! Well done, Philthy, and way to set the bar low, Iggles.

Santa Clause better be in a fully armored cart if he rolls out onto the field around Christmas time in Philly. It will be more than snow balls that will be thrown with those frustrated and classless fans. It will be another 50 years before the Philthy Iggles and their fans hoist another Lombardi. Way to defend that crown, Iggles.

    =========================

I’m guessing not many people are sleeping on the team that almost every power ranking in existence has at #1.

  45. The year after for the Super Bowl victors tend to be rough. Some struggle out of the gate. Others pick up where they left off — rolling out to a 4-0 start — and then hit a rough patch. The special teams find a way to survive the first place sked, the target on the back (every team’s A game), the loss of a little luck, player turnover (key contributors leaving for big money elsewhere), and an inconsistent sked of prime and specialty time slots.

The special teams know how to overcome. The Eagles are not a special team. But I’ll reserve judgement for next season. Perhaps like the Patriots and Cowboys dynasties, they will go SB WIN, NO DICE, SB WIN, SB WIN. Those teams learned from that year after, won it all the folliwing year and then had the maturity abd wisdom to repeat when given a second chance to repeat.

  46. There are 6 more games this season…..lots can happen. But yeah, dome teams have an advantage, especially if they get home field and the SB is in a dome.
