Browns can tie record for most consecutive road losses on Sunday

The Cleveland Browns can get a dubious place in NFL history with a loss on Sunday.

If the Browns lose on Sunday at Cincinnati, it will be their 26th consecutive road loss. That will tie a record set by the Lions from 2007 to 2010. They could then break the record a week later at Houston.

The Browns are 0-4 on the road this year, they went 0-8 on the road in both 2017 and 2016, and they lost their last five road games in 2015. Their most recent win on the road was a 33-30 overtime victory at Baltimore in Week Five of the 2015 season.

Cleveland is a three-point underdog at Cincinnati on Sunday and will surely be an underdog at Houston in a week as well. So the Browns are going to need to pull off an upset to avoid joining and then surpassing that Matt Millen-built Lions team as the worst road warriors ever.

  1. Not to enjoin a fruitless conversation, but it’s a little bit of a stretch to call “THIS BROWNS TEAM” the “worst group of road warriors ever” due to the failures of 2015, 2016 and 2017 squads. That isn’t to hide from the record, but I believe there are only 2-4 players currently on the team who were even in 2016: probably no players from 2015 or maybe one.

It’s unfair to do this for any team that changes substantially from year to year. It would be more appropo to call all 0-8 road teams (by season) as tied for the worst.

I say that because I do not think THIS BROWNS TEAM is worse than any of those before, and when they win at least one road game this year (as seems highly likely, if not probable) they will immediately dispell themselvess of the company in which you’ve grouped them.

  2. I really hope they win at least one of those games. This Steelers fan is rooting for the Browns not to have another miserable record. Use it as fuel and go crush those Bungals.

  3. Hard to believe they were a competent kicker away from winning in New Orleans earlier this season with the way the Saints are playing.

My guess, Browns win. Cincinnati has the curse of Hue back on their sideline.

  4. Just 3-point underdog away at 5-5 Cinci? That essentially means Vegas thinks the teams would be even if played on a neutral ground. Browns are still very untidy but no longer a dumpster fire.

  5. Backup coach, backup OC. Rookie QB. Defense depleted by injuries. History of losing. Head coach gets a job against a division rival mid-season. People expect them to roll over.

…but they have Baker Mayfield. Go get ’em kid.

  6. Or, the headline could have been, The Browns Can Break Another Streak By Winning. It must suck to have to look for the negative in anything positive in this life.

Wait, class from a Steeler fan? It can’t be real.. lol hats off to you sir!

  8. No worries Nick Chubb should have a banner day against that defense.. Rookie single game mark anyone?

They are only 3 point dogs, seems to me ‘people’ (at least the ones in Vegas) are expecting the opposite. The Browns fans deserve a decent team, their owner not so much.

I hear ya and get what you are saying in spirit but until they break that streak they are a part of that era of “worst group of road warriors”. I think its pretty safe to say when these records that span multiple seasons that no one thinks it’s just the last team roster that set it. It’s known it speaks to the franchise as a whole and falls back on the management/owners. That’s why its the Matt Millen Lions not the Calvin Johnson & Co Lions.

    ______________

Then in his postgame comments Hue will it blame it on nobody listening to his advice.

  12. Next Browns coach: Mike McCarthy, five minutes after he is fired in Green Bay.

(Which to me is a mistake by the Packers — but that’s a whole other story.)

  13. 1st Battle of Ohio (2018), chance to not join the record books of futility, and also have their first 2 game winning streak in just as long. Plus snap an 8 game losing streak to the Bengals with 2 weeks to heal up. What could go wrong????. Greg Williams will have our kids ready. Hopefully the kids don’t come in too amped up and get their asses handed to them early by the methodical, and still very good, Bengals O.
