Stefon Diggs, Xavier Rhodes questionable for Vikings

The Vikings may have a couple of key players for a critical game at New England. Or they may not.

Receiver Stefon Diggs (knee) and cornerback Xavier Rhodes (hamstring) are both questionable for the Week 13 game against the Patriots.

Diggs emerged from Sunday night’s win over the Packers with a non-obvious knee injury; Rhodes had an obvious hamstring pull late in the game, prompting him to fall over backward and to clutch at his upper thigh/lower butt.

Coach Mike Zimmer told reporters on Friday that Rhodes has a habit of suffering injuries that seem worse than they are.

“Everybody knows that,” Zimmer said, via Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “That’s just Xavier. I have a few nicknames for him.” (Wild guess: X-Ray-vier is among the non-profane options.)

Also questionable for the Vikings are cornerback Mackensie Alexander (knee) and receiver Brandon Zylstra (unspecified, for now). Receiver Chad Beebe (hamstring) and tight end David Morgan (knee) are out.

  1. This is a tough game with a fully healthy team. If we’re missing Diggs it gets a lot harder. IF we’re missing Diggs and Rhodes, well, we didn’t really expect to win anyways…

  2. I have never seen a team ruined by injuries like this one. I expected the Offensive Line due to the fact there isn’t a great deal of talent there, it is middle of the road at best. It surprisingly has gotten away this year fairly well which means this team will never sniff a Super Bowl until GM Rick Spielman spends some early round picks on it instead of picking up players passed up by every other team until the 5 round or later. All of the other injuries are killing them. My guess is because of the team not being able to run the ball and eat up clock which forces the defense on the field more than it should be, also with the long passes the Offense is in and out too quickly to let players recover. ired players get injured more often. T

  3. What is questionable isn’t the health of a particular player but Spielman’s decision to spend $84 million guaranteed on a QB that has gone 5-15 in primetime games. If the Vikings miss the playoffs after going 13-3 last year, can you really say that they “upgraded” their QB position?

Yes. We have gotten better, more explosive and more consistent QB play this season than we have in years. I believe that counts as an upgrade. Next question.

  5. the absence of morgan is a much bigger blow to this offense than most can appreciate. morgan is a solid TE. If Diggs doesn’t play, BB can easily take away Thielan from the game, stop the vikings running game when the passing game is non existent, and force cousins to look for Dropwell and Robinson the rest of the game. Dalvin Cook in the passing game will be their only hope of moving the ball.

this is not good for the vikings offense to start losing key players in key games. The idea of Dropwell being on the field even more makes me want to not even watch because he is so bad. he either drops the ball, or is somehow involved in a turnover or dumb penalty.

Well, Cousins did win his last Prime Time game that essentially knocked the Packers out of the playoffs; so, I guess he is better than that diva in GB.

    Could be worse.

We could have paid a much bigger team crippling contract to an aging QB named Aaron Rodgers who has yet to win on the road with only 4 wins overall.

  8. nathanp2013, maybe you could make that argument AFTER he wins a Super Bowl and is MVP of the league and the big game, but leave it to a Vikings fan to overhype.

Sounds like Zimmer is saying Rhodes is a drama queen

    ——-
No, he’s saying he thinks he’s a little soft when it comes to playing through pain. And he’s putting it out there for everyone to see. Bill Parcells 101.

  10. Vikings would be just fine without Rhodes. He’s having a poor year by his standards and was getting beat all over the field by Adams last week. Need Diggs tho if they want any chance to win.

  11. Neither practiced all week. Parcells used to say if you don’t practice, you don’t play. Play at 25% or don’t play. Doesn’t matter. Smoke show for the Pats.

Current history – Vikings are 5-1-1 in the last 7 games.

But, let’s focus on two players that just got huge contract to play QB. Cousins and Rodgers have now faced each other twice while playing in the NFCN.
Cousins has 776 yards passing and 7 TD’s… utter dominance
Rodgers has 479 yards passing and 2 TD’s… he has been utterly dominated

Packer fans should feel threatened… probably why the spend so much time on Viking articles.

Yes. It should be no problem for the replacement on Edelman. LMAO

  14. Yeah, Alexander is hurt too, but that’s ok. All Pro Rhodes stinks. Any of thos FA backups will be fine against the GOAT. No prob.

  15. They’ve been kind of “questionable” all year, no?

Diggs throws his hands up, begging for pass interference, when he just drops very catchable balls.

Rhodes holds or gets blown past.

I’m a Pats fan and I can honestly say the impact Packers fans have on Vikings articles is nothing compared to the way the purples spit up all over themselves on GB articles. Heck, the only reason I peruse most Packers articles here is to see them embarass themselves. They make Jests and colts fans seem cogent.

I can speak for the Vikings fans that are not just jealous of the Packers and haters.

Do you actually have the other 3 guys permission?

  18. Vikings are idiots for getting rid of keenum after he helped you get to the nfc championship game and going 13-3!!!
What’s has cousins ever accomplished in Washington? How many playoff wins does he have?? Vikings look like a bunch of dummies and will be lucky to make the playoffs. That’s what they get for disrespecting keenum after all he did for you. I was rooting for the vikings with keenum. Now I’ll be laughing at the stupid vikings when they miss the playoffs this year. They went from 13-3 with keenum to a mediocre .500 team that will miss the playoffs. LoL. That’s what you clowns get. From first place with keenum to missing the playoffs with a terrible record and a overpaid mediocre cousins vikings fans must feel very stupid except the smart vikings fans who wanted to keep keenum and his ball control, ground and pound offense that is 100 times better than what they have now. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. Well now it is broken because they tried fixing what was working just fine. Idiots. LoL. Now the vikings are back to mediocre thanks to the gm getting rid of their best qb since favre. What’s really funny is all the dumb fanboys who are supporting the move to get rid of keenum for mediocre cousins. Enjoy your new mediocre team with a mediocre record that will miss the playoffs after being in the nfc championship game with keenum. Cousins turned into a big failure. Always has been. Sure he puts up nice stats, but it’s all about winning games, and cousins has always been awful at winning games a being clutch. He’s a choke artist. Didn’t any of you clowns watch him play in Washington? ? Everyone knew cousins was a joke. Everyone except the vikings clowns who thought they can turn a volvo into a ferrari.

  19. Damn. The Vikings have players that will check themselves out of critical games at critical times with less than serious injuries? Yikes!

I say whoever is being covered by Rhodes needs to run their best, sharpest, twistiest, down field routes and make him work that hamstring HARD. He’ll be gone by halftime.

The Pats will double Thielen and put Gilmore on Diggs.

Don’t know if the Vikings can cover Gordon, Gronk, Edelman, White, and Hogan, and still bottle up Michel.

The funny thing is that everyone assumed the Packers had such a terrible season last year because of Huntley. Now that Erin is back and struggling, can you really say Erin is an “upgrade” over Huntley? Let’s see if Erin can improve on Huntley’s record of last season. Due to the Packer’s fluff of remaining games- it will *most likely* be advantage Erin. This perfectly illustrates that Huntley wasn’t the problem last year- the Packers are just a team in shambles.

  21. I take exception to the people who say we abused or disrespected Keenum . He left Minnesota and got a big contract in Denver. I would’ve liked to of seen him stay, but he was a career back up with Low level contracts until Pat Schirmer and the Vikings Brought him to the forefront. Like I said I would have enjoyed seeing him stay, but we certainly didn’t do him any harm

  22. We have gotten better, more explosive and more consistent QB play this season than we have in years.
    +++++
    More explosive? better?
Cousins has 3 passes of 40+ yards this season (tied for 25th). And is 14th in the league in passes of 20+ yards, smack dab in between Blake Bortles and Ryan Fitzpatrick.

    2016: Bradford – 99.3 rating, 71.6% completions, 7.0 yards per pass.
    2017: Keenum – 98.3 rating, 67.6% completions, 7.4 yards per pass.
    2018: Cousins – 101.9 rting, 71.1% completions, 7.4 yards per pass.

Doesn’t seem to be much of a difference between whomever dinks and dunks the pigskin, but at least Captain Kirk didn’t cost you draft picks.

  23. after ’05-’16 aside, from the Favre year in ’09, we’re cool with Cousins.
cut down on the stupid pick-6/fumbles and we’ll win a lot more games with Kirk.

And I’ll take the current management, coaching staff, roster, stadium and facilities over your stankin’-cheese dumpster fire any day too
