After 0-3 start, Texans had an epiphany

The Texans continue to make history each week, extending the longest winning streak after an 0-3 start in league history. With the number now at nine, defensive back Tyrann Mathieu explained to PFT what happened in September.

“We looked around the room,” Mathieu explained, “and we said, ‘How in the hell are we 0-3?'”

Given the presence of guys like J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney and Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins, it was an important question. And the Texans resolved it by studying film and concluding that they’d been beating themselves.

So they remained committed to the process, stayed the course, and starting winning games. Nine wins later, here they are, closing in on a likely playoff berth and, quite possibly, a trip deep into January.

There’s a chance that trip will extend into February.

  1. Watson started playing with more confidence in week 4. Understandable the early struggle coming off the injury he had. They also started protecting him better, then the defense started kicking in. Don’t sleep on the Texans.

Who have they beat? No one

Nine to be exact, you can only play who is on the schedule.

  3. I’m happy they won and so far they keep figuring out, with a little luck, a way to get a win. Today the offense scored one TD and five field goals. They need to fix that or they’ll be one and done….

  4. Getting excited about beating the Browns and some other crappier teams, is not a good sign.

Winning 9 straight games in the NFL is a very good sign, I don’t care who’s on the schedule.

  5. It took a while for Watson to get comfortable; not just the injury but he played very little in pre-season.
And the O line has come a very long way. They were awful at the start of the season, maybe worst in the league. Now they’re one of the best run blocking units out there. Not much depth – but enough for 9 in a row.

Yeah, you would think they were playing in the AFC East.

Now that’s funny right there, I don’t care who you are!

I agree and I’m a lifetime Pats fan. Some of you guys are pretty quick.

  9. As of week 12 the Texans actually have a better strength of victory than the chiefs…chargers and Steelers…and it just got better with Dallas beating New Orleans…

  10. Never trust a dome team in December and January. I don’t see them making it to Atlanta.

The Texans will just open the roof in December and January and keep it open even if the are on the road just so that they can be a little more trusted. They’ll be thanking you for that tip Pats fan.

  11. As a die hard Texans fan, I can’t argue with a lot of you. This team has still not been REALLY tested yet. But week after week, they keep winning. Sure it’s not murderers row, but they can’t just decide to go play KC or LA.

My guess is they end with the 3 seed, beat the Ravens/Pittsburgh and lose to New England…. in Foxboro… again.

But Watson is making progress every week. Hes getting better with protecting the ball, he just needs to make read progressions quicker.

And opening the roof in December in Houston isn’t exactly going to help them get ready for a KC or New England January… It was mid 70s today at game time.

Big talk from a Pats fan, Playing in the AFC Least and being gifted 6 easy games.

  13. 9 Wins in a row in the NFL is difficult enough, they have been tested coming back from 0-3 with 9 straight wins and counting. They are balanced on both sides of the ball. On offense they have Watson, Hopkins, Thomas, Miller and a host of players stepping up like Koutee and their 3 tightends all making good plays. On Defense they have Watt, Clowney, Honey Badger and a host of good players stepping up…Reid, Covington, McKinney, K. Jackson, etc.

The sad thing is no one will believe in them until they’ve beaten the Chiefs, Rams, Saints or Patriots. None of which are all that balanced on both sides of the ball. Just damn good high powered offenses with average or mediocre defenses.

The Patriots beat them by 7 points in the first game of the season, a game that the Texans had a shot at winning if not for some bad play calling and missed field goals.

No the Texans have not faced the Chiefs, Rams or Saints…but the Chiefs, Rams and Saints have not faced the Texan’s defense either. And the Patriots have not faced the Texans like they are playing now.

Good luck to them. It’s looking like they will face the Chargers or Ravens in the first round at this point with just the Colts, Jets, Eagles and Jags left on their schedule.

You play in the AFC South. Perhaps the worst division in history since re-alignment.
