Texans win ninth consecutive by rolling over Browns

The Texans have the NFL’s longest active winning streak, extending it to nine games with an easy victory over the Browns.

Houston dominated Cleveland from start to finish, forcing four turnovers and gaining 384 yards in a 29-13 victory.

The Texans lead the AFC South by three games after Indianapolis’ loss to Jacksonville on Sunday. The Colts play at Houston next week.

The Browns kept shooting themselves in the foot. Baker Mayfield threw three interceptions that led to 13 Houston points, including a pick-six by Zach Cunningham.

Houston led 23-0 at halftime.

Cleveland threatened to make it a game, though, opening the second half with a nine-play, 75-yard drive that ended with a 2-yard Nick Chubb touchdown run.

On the Browns’ next possession, they had a 76-yard touchdown from Mayfield to Antonio Callaway nullified by a holding penalty on offensive tackle Greg Robinson. That would have cut the Texans’ lead to 26-14. Two plays later, Mayfield hit Callaway for 71 yards, but Justin Reid knocked the ball from Callaway before he reached the end zone.

Aaron Colvin recovered for the Texans in the end zone.

Lamar Miller had another 100-yard day running the ball, with 103 yards on 19 carries. Alfred Blue added 54 yards on 13 carries and had a 29-yard touchdown nullified by a holding penalty in the final two minutes.

Deshaun Watson completed 22 of 31 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown. He did take four sacks, including 1.5 by Myles Garrett.

DeAndre Hopkins caught seven passes for 91 yards.

Mayfield, who had only 46 passing yards in the first half, finished 29-of-43 for 397 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions. Jarvis Landry caught six passes for 103 yards.

  1. browns will dominate the hapless kittens coming to browns stadium next week. book it haterz. keep drinking the hatorade. it fuels baker mayfield.

  2. Mayfield talked all that trash about his ex coach and then gets his butt whooped and throws three interceptions. He’s an immature diva that will fail until he grows up and learns to respect coaches, learns to be humble, be a leader, be smart, don’t be a turnover machine and work on accuracy and timing. He’s a young punk who thinks he knows more than his coaches. He’ll be a bust just like the past browns qbs going back millions of years. Just another bust of a qb for the browns. Try drafting a franchise qb with class and integrity and respect for his coaches that can read defenses , pick defenses apart and not be a turnover machine. Mayfield isn’t ready for the nfl. He acts like a selfish whiny classless diva with poor skills.

  3. Glad my Texans won but I think Mayfield has a bright future. Crennel schooled him a bit but I’m betting he’ll bounce back…

  4. Texans are legit. The Browns whooped two .500 teams and then got whooped by a legit playoff team and super bowl contender. The browns just got a lesson as to what the next level looks like and got a glimpse into what their team could look like next year with some experience and a few more pieces.

Look out AFC. The Texans have arrived.

  5. Are we claiming the Texans have arrived after beating the Browns….? Seriously?

The Browns couldn’t get out of their own way. I mean they had a long TD brought back on penalty and then 2 plays later have a safety force a fumble on the 1 after another nearly long TD pass… It was just a comedy of errors really.

I love the Texans but I’m not anointing them after that win.

  6. I’m claiming that the Texans have arrived because they won 9 in a row, have a legit quarterback, some great skill players and a stout defense with one of the best D lines in football. They handled a team that they should have handled.

Top 5 defense and a franchise QB is a recipe for success and they have it. Not sure why you are mad your team is good…

  7. I think this score would’ve been stretched out a bit more had the refs called that blatant horse collar tackle on Watson in the first quarter that stalled that drive. Don’t know how in the hell you miss that…
