Todd Bowles “fuming” after Jets’ “dumb mistakes”

Jets coach Todd Bowles isn’t given to high emotion — or any emotion, really.

But he said after Sunday’s loss to the Titans that he was “fuming,” and not just from the steam that’s building under his chair.

The Jets led most of the game, but blew a 16-point lead late in the game, dropping them to 3-8. They’ve lost 18 of their last 23 games, which puts Bowles on track to join Hue Jackson and Mike McCarthy soon. The game featured 11 Jets penalties, which left Bowles visibly angry.

“I don’t know how many [penalties] we had, but it felt like we had one every play,” Bowles said, via Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. “It cost us, and it’s disgusting. . .

“We played the same way the whole day, and just dumb mistakes at dumb times cost us ballgames. That’s why we’re in the position we’re in.”

The Jets committed three costly penalties during the Titans’ game-winning drive, a holding on Morris Claiborne, illegal use of hands on Jordan Jenkins and a facemask on Trumaine Johnson, during the six-play, 85-yard drive.

When asked about his message to players afterward, Bowles was blunt: “Pissed off. Frustrated. Look in the mirror, just look in the mirror. We won’t be a good football team until we’re a smart football team.”

And that’s still likely to be under someone else’s leadership, which likely contributes to his frustration.

  1. The Jets have kept this cat far too long and he should of been shown the door after he completely botched the handling of a dysfunctional locker room in 2016 with Marshall and Sheldon. There’s no accountability coming from the coaches to the players and there is no accountability from the front office/players to the coaches. I love Jamal Adams but he has to stop with the defending of Bowles after every game, he’s not going to be here next year, he doesn’t deserve to be, so you might as well face it now. Leonard Williams acting angry on the sideline yesterday after his poor performance and lazy showing (slowly jogging to make tackles, hands on hips, giving up on plays) made me laugh, it was the fakest thing I’ve seen. Adams, Maye, Avery Williamson, Enunwa, and Darnold should be the only ones with guaranteed roster spots in 2019.

  2. Not enough good players at the Jets. Some players being touted as building blocks are fools gold. (Leonard Williams-face reality that he isn’t what he is touted as). Jets best offensive player is Quincy Enunwa (not a draftee of current regime). Definitely some questionable play calling on offense but the offensive line isn’t good and was never addressed in 4 years. Coaching has responsibility but GM has his handprints all over the team and owns 3-9 as much as anyone – this can’t be forgotten when decisions are made in a few weeks. Jets already on line behind Green Bay (great job) and Cleveland (good talent base). Todd Bowles also victim of bad GM. Time to move on from GM as well. The Johnson’s wanted “progress” – there hasn’t been any.

  3. Its everyone else’s fault but mine – said no leader ever.

If players make the same dumb mistakes every game its on the coaches for implementing schemes they can’t handle, or for tolerating 10 penalties a game. The OC is hot garbage , and the players aren’t very good either.

Fire all coaches and the GM.

  4. Has anyone else noticed that Todd Bowles doesn’t really do anything? It’s like he is unable to react until after the game.

“We did a whole lot of stupid stuff.”

    Well, yes. Thanks.

  5. It’s the Jets, led by confirmed cheater, Woody Johnson. All he cared about is PSLs and working with Goodell to try to cheat the Pats.

    This is the result.

If you don’t take care of your own yard, so to speak, these are the results. Cheaters never win.

Pats drafted Trey Flowers in Rd 4. Leonard Williams supposedly was ‘steal’ at #6 overall.

He’s a bust considering he’s not deserving of a new deal and does not command a double team like a cornerstone player should.
