Bobby Wagner named NFC defensive player of the week

The Seahawks have defied all expectations this year, as they’re still on a path to the playoffs in what appeared to be a rebuilding year.

And the veteran defensive star they held onto this offseason continues to make his presence felt.

Bobby Wagner was named NFC defensive player of the week, after filling up the stat sheet against the 49ers.

Wagner returned an interception 98 yards for a touchdown, forced a fumble, recovered a fumble, had 12 tackles and a sack and broke up two passes.

That was a full day’s work, as he continues to lead a team that underwent a massive rebuild this offseason.

  1. Bobby Wagner is the the best linebacker in football. Each week there are at least 2 or 3 plays he makes on the ball carrier that make me say wow. Aaron Donald is having a year where he looks to be running away with the defensive player but Wagner isn’t too far behind. He is 8th in tackles and has yet to miss one single tackle. His ability in coverage is what sets him apart – 12 pass breakups for a linebacker.

  2. How can that be? I thought Seattle lost all their great defensive players and were going 3-13!? Clara is still a raging dumpster fire…..and Seattle is positioning itself for January football. So pretty much the norm in the NFC West.

  3. Coming from an Arizona Cardinals I can freely admit Bobby Wagner is an absolute BEAST. Wagner is a complete 3 down MLB, I think Kuechly is the best most talented MLB in the NFL but I give Wag’s the edge because Bobby is durable and very rarely misses a game. At almost 29yrs old he is starting to get older but is an absolute HOF caliber player, he’s massively outplayed his 2nd round pick status coming into the NFL and turned out to be a HUGE draft steal.
Here in Arizona MLB Hasson Reddick though still pretty much a rookie ( He played DE in College and then was brought in as a rookie spending all off season learning how to play as a 3-4 ILB but then 4 games into the year was moved to DE to fill in for an injured Markus Golden. This year he has had to learn how to play SLB in Steve Wilks 4-3) is really starting to develop and come into his own, he needs to work on his run defense this off-season but is very good in coverage and exceptional rushing the QB. Reddick is a guy whom I think will really take off next season as will Robert Nkimdiche who w/ 5.0 sacks/14 hits/45 pressures is excelling in Wilks 1 gap system. I’d love to see Hasson Reddick become anywhere near to as good as Bobby Wagner is, Arizona will also need to draft a guy in the mid rounds or sign a guy in F/A whos a true 4-3 LB to replace Deone Bucannon. Deone is most definitely not a 4-3 LB, he is meant to be used in a 3-4.

Sadly, thanks to injuries, this might be the only member of that great defense that has chance at the HOF.

A few guys from that 2011-2014 SEA defense have a shot at the HOF. Kam Chancellor will not be a first ballot HOF’r due to the fact his career ended very prematurely due to injury, but I do think he will eventually get in on the 2nd-3rd-4th ballot. Chancellor was a generational game changing type player who changed how teams do things becoming the new prototype teams look for in a SS. CB Richard Sherman has a chance at making it as well, I dont think he has done enough yet but if he can muster a couple more Pro-Bowl seasons where he plays at an elite caliber level he to then very likely gets in. Bobby Wagner MOST DEFINITELY will be a HOF’r. Bennett and Avril will not make the cut. I definitely think at minimum two guys from that defense become Hall of Fame players though I think 20-25yrs from now 3 will be in and those 3 will be Sherm, Kam and Wagz.

Sherm aint getting in.. he’s talked more crap than T.O., who barely got in thanks to his antics.

Kam.. NO chance.. safeties aren’t getting a fair shake

Earl.. better chance than the other 2, but again, measure him againsr Ed Reed or Ronnie Lott.. I’d be shocked if he makes it.

.. they’ll all be in the Seahawks Ring of Honor. I think that’s good enough for most fans.

  6. I could have been named DPOTW against the Niners! LOL. I mean really, who has Seattle beaten with a winning record other than the Carolina Kittens?

Russell is amazing but come on man. Their schedule is rediculously weak

Sherm will get in. He is not TO. He is loud but TO made a career of bouncing around and not being wanted due to his diva tactics. Sherm is nearly a decade in to his career and spent all but 1 season with the same team, who only cut him because of his cap hit and age. These two things are nowhere near the same.

  8. The Seahawks’ 5 losses came against Bears Broncos Rams x2 and Chargers, those teams are combined 42-14. Their biggest loss was by 8 pts, still a one-possession game. They still have to face the Vikings and Chiefs. They beat the Cowboys, also a winning team. Their schedule is one of the most difficult in the league, with an early bye and London game as kickers. They haven’t gotten the job done against the top teams, but they were close and have gotten better in the 2nd half. Silly to say they have an easy schedule though
