Xavien Howard wins AFC defensive player of the week award

For the second straight week, Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard intercepted two passes in one game. This week, the league deemed the performance worthy of the AFC defensive player of the week award.

A second-round pick of the Dolphins in 2016, Howard has become one of the best defensive backs in the NFL. He now has seven interceptions on the year, most in the league through 12 games.

The next test for Howard arrives on Sunday, when the Patriots return to town. Tom Brady has struggled in Miami over the years, losing nine of 16 career games there. On a Monday night in Miami last December, Howard intercepted Brady twice.

A win against New England could be the spark that propels the Dolphins to the postseason. If that’s going to happen, they’ll need Howard to step up for the third straight week.

  1. Love the Dolphins, and I know we play them tough in Miami, however with the injuries this team has suffered it will prove to be too much to overcome against the Patriots. Had Miami still had the starting OL and Wilson and Grant I would even say Miami would win the game. BB is going to make Miami one dimensional and that spells a loss. Not to mention we have still not found a way to cover TEs even though you have 1st round LB and 1st round DB. Burke and Gase are in way over their heads on this one.

  2. The Jaguars defense shuts out a team on a 5 game win streak and a QB on a streak of 8 straight games with 3 TD passes.

And they cannot even get the player of the week? Dang.

Your focusing on the wrong things here. For some reason Belichick has trouble cheating in Miami. Even with Miami playing all second teamers it will be a close game.

  4. He’s really become a good to great corner. Let’s see if sissy Brady has the guts to throw his way on Sunday. Last meeting, X picked him off twice.

Always great to see Brady crying on the Dolphins field after losses.

  5. This game is going to be a nail biter the Fins are desperate for a win. Time to run the ball with Michel as they will hit Brady plenty this Sunday. I actually think the Pats lose this week 20 to 14.

At the beginning of the year I thought it was a decent possibility, but I don’t see it happening. The Fins are so beat up and really aren’t a good team right now.
