Dak Prescott: Winners worry about winning; losers worry about winners

Dak Prescott tried to play dumb about Kamu Grugier-Hill calling the Cowboys chokers.

“Who?” Prescott answered when asked if he had heard what one of the Eagles linebackers said about the Cowboys.

The Cowboys quarterback, though, admitted he has seen Grugier-Hill’s bulletin-board quote from Wednesday when the linebacker said, “Look at Dallas’ history. They always choke. So we’ll go down there and make them choke.”

“You know, coach [Jason] Garrett has a great saying, and I don’t know where he got it from, but winners worry about winning and losers worry about winners,” Prescott said, via David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. “We’re focused on ourselves in this locker room about what we need to do to get better in each and every phase of this game to be ready for this week.

“We’re not worried about he say, she say.”

In the Eagles’ 27-20 loss to the Cowboys on Nov. 11, Grugier-Hill dropped what likely would have turned into a pick-six in the first quarter. Dallas hasn’t lost since and now stands alone in first place in the NFC East at 7-5, but the Eagles are only a game back at 6-6 with a chance to pull into a first-place tie Sunday.

“When you play a team like this, a game like this that means what it means, what somebody says doesn’t add any motivation,” Prescott said.

Prescott surmises Grugier-Hill was talking “trash [because] it brings attention.”

“If that’s what they want, good for them,” Prescott said.

  1. So this clown drops a potential pick six that could have changed the outcome of the first game and he is calling the Cowboys chokers????

  2. I’m an Eagles fan, but Grugier-Hill should just shut his mouth. I can’t stand when ANY player says stuff like that. You’re all pros, act like it. I hate the Cowboys as much as anyone, but I can’t stand when fans or players channel the past when making comments. We all hate when fans & players cling to past glory, but we’re always quick to bring up past failures. The Cowboys “choking” in the past is irrelevant. Just like the Eagles choking in past wasn’t relevant last year. New team, new year.

  3. You people sitting here hating for no reason. Only Big Ben & Brady have more wins than this guy since hes been in the league, for some reason it upsets yall so much. You’re just helping prove Daks point

  4. What exactly has he won? I’m glad the Cowboys are winning. Just means they’ll lock up Garrett and Dak with extensions. Couldn’t be happier as and Eagles fan. Dak is the same as Flacco, Alex Smith and Case Keenum. Game manager. Stop Zeke you stop the Cowboys. Dak is not beating you himself

  5. Full disclosure, I am a Cowboys fan. Proud of our past, frustrated with current times. That being said, I do find it interesting that everyone, players, media, fans, and anyone else always have the Cowboys on their minds or in their mouths. People bitch that they get so much attention, but constantly talking about them perpetuates this. Love em or hate em, they always seem relevant…

  6. NO’s worst game of the year. Dallas’ best game of the year, and they couldn’t score in the second half and almost lost. Eagles will win division. The Boys aren’t very good.

  7. “Reasonable people will differ on Hill’s comments but no one can argue that Prescott has won anything. Sounds like he’s worrying about the winners.”

What has Carson Wentz won again?

  8. That’s the second time you referred to Kamu dropping an interception. You might want to also point out that he was wearing a cast on his hand, to be fair.

  9. Cry Eagles Cry
    in your nest of misery!
    Try Eagles Try
    Lose to the Cowboys 1,2,3!
    Scoring low, playing high!
Curl into a ball and die!
    Die Eagles Die
    Losing is your legacy

  10. Wow, his point was just that he’s not going to worry about what Hill said. He’s staying focused on winning…not letting himself get distracted by all the bs. I don’t take it as a self-proclamation.

  11. Carson Wentz you say? He’s 23-16 as a starter (.589). Dak Prescott is 29-15 (.659). Wentz might be the second best QB in the division now that Eli sucks and the Redskins are down to their third stringer.

Cowboys 5 – Number of post season games played in since 1996
NY FOOTBALL GIANTS 4 – Draft board position for 2019
    REDSKINS 3 – Playoff Wins since 1992
Iggles 1 – Number of times the Giants have beat the Eagles
    in the last 9 meetings

  13. This is really a no-lose situation for the Eagles:

    1) Cowboys win the game, and the division – lose in the first round, but Prescott and Garrett get extensions OR…

    2) Cowboys choke-away the division, and the stigma of them not being able to win in a big spot continues.

Either way it sets-up well for everyone else in the NFC East.

  14. Yeah , Superbowl defending champions Eagles are losers who focus on Winners (2 playoff wins in 34 years). Dak is awful at QB and trash talk too.

  15. Strong words for a guy who ranks well into the bottom half of QBs in just about every meaningful statistical category. Reminds me of the FitzTragic press conferences after 3 wins.

Listen I live in Dallas. Not a Cowboys fan but I do believe this team has some potential – because of its defense. Dak isn’t the reason for this team’s (current) success, and many of my friends think they should be shopping for a QB this offseason – so even they believe that. I like a little arrogance in a player. I also may like a little humility.

I’m a Cowboys fan and this Eagles fan is 100% correct.

  17. I am Giants fan with no dog in this fight. I equally loath both the Cowboys and the Eagles. That said, even I have to admit Dak is a class act, plays hard and never complains. Sometimes guys like Dak, taken in the 4th round, appreciate their good fortune to be playing in the NFL. He honors the game, doesn’t disrespect it and deserves a tip of the hat for class.

Teams win games, not QBs. This isn’t a pitchers’ duel. I really wish people wound understand that. And ain’t no one confusing Dak Prescott with the reason they had one good season, one not so good season, and on that hadn’t been determined.

  19. The last season in which the Cowboys won a playoff game was 2009, and that was in the wildcard round. It remains Garrett’s singular playoff victory. Of course, Dallas was bounced out of the divisional round like a dead cat that year.

In 2016, Prescott’s and Elliot’s rookie year, the Cowboys had all the advantages–13-3, division title, first round bye, home field advantage. And they got bounced out of the divisional round like a dead cat.

I’ll never forget this sequence: 1st and goal at the 3, game (in fact season) on the line. Okay, Dallas has the biggest, strongest offensive line and the league leading running back. Pass, INCOMPLETE. Run option, TACKLE for -1 yard. Pass for a touchdown, NEGATED by a holding penalty for -10 yards. (They’re moving backwards.) Now, it’s 4th and goal at the 14. Pass, DEFLECTED, Cowboys lose.

Not once did Garrett/Linehan call a running play. 3 yards to glory, and not once did they give the ball to the running back who was averaging, behind the biggest, strongest offensive line, 4-5 yards a carry. And they lost because of it.

Now look at this season. Dallas doesn’t have the offensive line it had before, but it has the running back, who when given the ball can gain yardage. The question is, will he be given the ball when the game is on the line?

The answer is, apparently not. Garrett and Linehan are pass happy, so they’ll give the ball to Prescott. How did that work out the last time Dallas was in the playoffs?

The problem, which has a very simple solution for defensive coordinators, is that the Dallas offense is one-dimensional. It’s either run with Elliot or run option with Prescott, because the passing game is suspect even with the addition of Cooper. So stop Elliott or tackle Prescott, and it’s game over.

Almost every day I go to the Stripes down the street at the corner store for breakfast or lunch. (We don’t do food trucks down here, we do food vendors in convenience stores. And the Laredo Taco Company actually serves really good food.) There outside the store is a cardboard cutout of Prescott, without a helmet, smiling and pointing, holding a fajita taco like a football, as if he is the quarterback who’s going to throw me a taco to win. It ruins my appetite.

Prescott holds on to the ball too long, mainly because he can’t find any open receivers. That’s why he’s suffered 45 sacks in games this year. The depleted offensive line cannot sustain delayed pass protection. So it’s either run or run option. That’s what makes the Cowboys easy to defend, predictability. Elliot may be strong but he can be stopped. Prescott may be dexterous, but he can be shut down. After that, Dallas has . . . what?

Running quarterbacks always suffer injury and never win. Running backs, when given the ball, wear down. How many punishing tackles can any man take?

Dallas has not won a divisional playoff game, appeared in a conference championship or won a Super Bowl, since 1995–that was the last year with the players Landry drafted and developed, combined with the players Johnson drafted and developed, and Switzer fortunately coached. It’s all been downhill ever since Jerry Jones became large and in charge. This year will be no different.

We’re talking about divisional games in December here. Philadelphia and New York are not going to bend over for these Cowboys. Neither are Indianapolis or Tampa Bay.

I’ve been watching the Dallas Cowboys play football since I was a baby in 1961. I live 20 miles from where Tom Landry was born, and I visit his mural and museum in Mission regularly. And I’m telling you, these Cowboys are not his. They do not have the winning motive, haven’t for decades. Tex Schramm, Tom Landry and Gil Brant made the Dallas Cowboys “America’s Team,” so dubbed by NFL Films. Jerry Jones has ruined it all, stained the franchise to beyond recognition.

  20. I am wondering how Dakota knows about winning. Three years in the league and he still looks remarkably like the running back who thinks he can throw.

So the Boys win a surprise game to go to 7-5 and now they’re bragging themselves up as winners?

    =====================

Oh, you mean that game where they held the team that beat the Eagles a few weeks ago – 48-7 was that score, I believe – to 10 points?

I bet it surprised the Eagles…

Yeah , Superbowl defending champions Eagles are losers

    ==================

Going from the trophy to a likely 8-8 – yes, they are.

  23. The difference between this team and the one 2 years ago is that defense. They tackle well and play fast. For all this focus on Dak, it was the defense that beat the Saints, and it’ll be the defense that takes them as far as they can go in the playoffs.

  24. ““You know, coach [Jason] Garrett has a great saying, and I don’t know where he got it from, but winners worry about winning and losers worry about winners,”
    ——-
He definitely did not get it from being a winner. Winners don’t worry at all about winning, they just go do it because they know what has to be done and how to do it.
    ———
““We’re not worried about he say, she say.””
    ——-
What about what a person thinks that doesn’t identify as either? Zir might have some interesting things to say

  25. Prescott is unimpressive as a QB. Can barely pass for 200 yards a game and can barely get two TD’s a game. Nice little sayings and cliche’s can will only get you so far.

Do your eyes work? The Eagles have the two best QB’s in the division. There ain’t a GM in the league that would take Dak over Wentz.
