NFL says faulty cables caused difficulties with Bengals’ play calling in Carson

AP

During Sunday’s game against the Chargers, the Bengals had to resort to communicating with walkie-talkies because of technical difficulties. The NFL says faulty cables were to blame.

According to Marisa Contipelli of Bengals.com, the league put out a statement saying faulty cables were to blame.

“During the game we had issues with the cable that allows the coach-to-coach and coach-to-player technology to communicate, thus preventing play calls to be heard through that system. It had nothing to do with the actual headsets,” the league’s statement said.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis was frustrated during the game with the issue, and it’s hard to blame him: NFL coaches expect to have properly functioning communications technology, and the league should ensure that the technology is working properly, at every stadium, for both the home and road teams. On Sunday in Carson, it wasn’t.

Somehow Belichick was involved. But how??

    ————————

Not to worry, ESPN and some owners will find a way to frame them.

  2. Just stop it. The Pats have been busted cheating multiple times, and that’s why they have the reputation they do. Plus it’s always annoying when Pats fans turn every story into a Pats story. Worst fanbase outside of Steelers fans. All bandwagon like the Steelers, too.

  3. I would think they would test the system prior to the game and fix any problems before the game started. Poor management unless the cable was cut during the game. The NFL should delay or stop the game when one team is without their communications system.

  4. This happens regularly and is usually something that can be neither predicted nor controlled. The NFL can certainly afford to invest more money in these systems, but I don’t know if it will make a difference. Even the best technology fails sometimes.

Unless it’s the Patriots. Then it’s obviously cheating.

  5. Bengals came close to beating the Chargers miraculously… could communication difficulties have affected this?

Yes… but as usual… Bengals get the “We’re sorry we screwed you, better luck next time”.

    SSDD.

Right? Busted again and again for outright cheating then throw up their arms and cry aloud “Why does everyone always pick on US?!?”

Those ‘bandwagons’ have been running a long, long time. At some point you are going to have to accept that for Steelers and Pats fans winning is a lifestyle that’s bordering on a birthright. There’s an entire generation of Pats fans that haven’t seen a losing season. For those of us who saw far more than our share of them we wouldn’t mind seeing the trollaws of this world move on any more than you would. It would almost be worth a couple of 2-14, 6-10 type seasons to get rid of them…almost.

    “Busted” = “framed”

“Bandwagon”. 11 Superbowls between the teams. Tough to be a bandwagon fan when your team is relevant for decades at a time.

Good luck next year, Whoever your team is.

  9. Where are the CHEATER comments? Oh, yeah. It’s the Chargers, they aren’t winners. You haters don’t have that deep down, pit in your stomach,”why are they always so good” angst that you have with the PATS.

Hey NFL, there’s this thing called wireless, maybe you should look into it.

The NFL would just screw it up, everyone in the stadium would hear it except the QB.

Maybe they’re annoying because of false claims of cheating? When everything involved with cheating in the NFL gets dumped on that team, any story that demonstrates it’s patently false becomes a story about the Patriots. Full stop. Don’t like it? Too bad. As long as NFl fans continue to blame the Patriots for stuff that every team is culpable of you get what you get. Buy a box of tissues if you don’t like it.

  12. “My headset was working fine, every game,” (former Arizona Cardinal Karlos) Dansby said. “Until the very last game of the year. We get in Foxboro, they couldn’t get my headset fixed, for nothing in the world.”

In that same game, Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart also had trouble with his own headset…

“I didn’t have not one problem until I went into Foxboro,” Dansby said. “You can ask anybody on that team that year. We didn’t have no problems with my headset until I got to Foxboro. And, man, I tell you every time I came to the sidelines, taking my helmet off trying to fix it. They was trying to fix it, they couldn’t get it fixed. So we had to give hand signals, and we were dead in the water.”

Must be Mr. Dansby never played in Carson?

  13. Mike there was a report that your radio went out?

    “That’s always the case.”

    Here?

    “Yes.”

So you’re saying every time you play here you have rad—

    “I said what I said.”

Mike what exactly happened, you just didn’t have any communication?

“We were listening to the Patriots radio broadcast for the majority of the first half. On our headsets.”
